FAQs about hotels in Milton Keynes

A Hub of Entertainment

Best known for its concrete cows and legendary roundabout system, Milton Keynes is just off the M1 motorway linking Birmingham and London. Its proximity to the latter triggered its development from village to new town in the 1960s.

Milton Keynes Village still exists, between tranquil Ouzel Valley Park and Willen Lake with its peace pagoda and watersports. Next door, Gulliver’s Land children’s theme park is bordered by the Grand Union Canal, whose banks have cycle and footpaths.

In the town centre is the aptly named MK Hub, an entertainment core near the train station. In addition to accommodation, bars and restaurants, it houses the huge Xscape complex, comprising the Airkix Indoor Skydiving centre, cinemas, and the UK’s largest indoor ski slope. Nearby are the shops of Centre: MK and Midsummer Place.

On the town’s outskirts is the National Bowl entertainment venue, and Bletchley Park, where the German Enigma code was cracked during World War II. To the east Woburn Abbey has a large safari park, while north-west is Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing F1 team are based in Milton Keynes, and the MK Dons are the local football team. The Open University is also headquartered here.

Of the many Milton Keynes hotels, apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, most have parking and some have swimming pools.

Milton Keynes has extensive and well kept green and blue...

Milton Keynes has extensive and well kept green and blue open spaces, including parkland, rivers, lakes, working farms and heritage sites, well maintained by the Parks Trust charity, who are working to manage them more sustainably. I enjoyed another visit to the excellent Milton Keynes Museum, which is in beautiful parkland and includes an eighteenth century farmhouse and displays of domestic interiors, workshops, toys, transport, telephones, a street of shops and an excellent cafe. Like the Parks Trust and many other local facilities it is largely run by volunteers. There is a wide variety of excellent cuisines from all over the world available in MK. I enjoyed meeting friends at Yaw's Supper Club at the Old School in Wolverton, with delicious Caribbean food provided by 'Better than Mammas', accompanied by Yaw's story-telling and Natasha's beautiful singing. (This has to be booked in advance). There also canal-side walks and a number of traditional pubs along the canal. We enjoyed a walk from Old Wolverton along the Grand Union canal to the Barley Mow pub in Cosgrove, where we had an excellent Sunday lunch. The City is very much designed around the car, with wide boulevards, but the red routes provide pathways for walking or cycling, separate from the vehicles. As a non-driver, the main disadvantage of the City for me is the public transport, but on this occasion I was fortunate with the buses. It is necessary to plan routes and journeys in advance.

I enjoyed a meal with friends at the Olive Tree Turkish restaurant near the hotel. I also enjoyed a local art exhibition in the Creative Void at the Old Bath House community centre in Wolverton- one of many community activities there. As a non-driver, I find the most difficult aspect of MK is the public transport, as the city was designed around the car and the bus service is unpredictable.

The best part of this trip was the hotel location amongst major shops, a variety of restaurants and the MK Dons Football Stadium. Parking is expensive but not if you stay at the hotel which offers a special rate of £8 for 24 hours. We stayed here for our visit to Bletchley Park which is only 7 mins drive away.

I have mobility issues and use a mobility scooter. My room was originally a standard room however I was moved to an executive room as there was a slight maintenance issue when I arrived which was not able to be fixed straight away so I was offered an alternative room which was marvellous. I had a wet room and plenty of space to use my scooter. I ate mostly at the hotel other than at All Bar One for lunch once which was very good and very nearby. I also went to the local shopping centre Midsummer Place which was very good and plenty of variety. There was nothing I did not like about my visit I can honestly say I would highly recommend it.

I enjoyed another visit to the Milton Keynes Gallery, where I was fortunate to catch the last day of 'Beyond the Page', a nationally important exhibition of South Asian Miniatures and their wider influence, including a guided tour with a very enthusiastic guide. I enjoyed meeting friends for an excellent meal at Namji's in the Square at Wolverton, an award-winning Punjabi restaurant. I also enjoyed lunch at Bella Italia in the Cultural Quarter behind the Theatre and MK Gallery. As a non-driver, the public transport is the worst aspect of Milton Keynes for me, particularly on a Sunday.

It was my first time visiting Milton Keynes and staying at this hotel, we went for Christmas time. The staff were incredible, they couldn’t have been anymore friendly and welcoming, especially as they were working through Christmas! I absolutely applaud them all. The hotel itself is beautiful, very clean, tidy and very presentable. There is so much to explore and the hotel is situated in a perfect location that we could walk to all the shops and restaurants.

Location was great, short walk to business area where I need to be, with lots of restaurants close by for dinner options. The room was a good size, bathroom was just right for one person. Air conditioning worked brilliantly also. Breakfast was buffet style with enough options for a decent meal...could always find something I didn't mind having on the spread. I enjoyed my stay, will definitely stay again. Atmosphere in the hotel was vibrant....

This is a modern conference centre type hotel and it does what it aims to do very well: rooms are clean and generously sized, staff are efficient and friendly. It's perfectly located for the Open University although I'm not sure what else would bring you to this particular part of Milton Keynes; not being familiar with the town, it's difficult to say what other local attractions of facilities there are.

I’m not fully familiar with Milton Keynes as I’m not from the area so I didn’t want to travel too far away from the train station, this hotel was easy to find and get to. Staff are helpful and friendly. Good value for money. My trip was planned last minute so was surprised to find a cheap hotel close by that had rooms available.
