Incredible location, right in the heart of the City. A great space to explore local bars and restaurants from, and right on the Salamanca market road if youre staying for a saturday morning. Would highly recommend, a lovely boutique stay for a couple. They knew it was our anniversary and left a lovely postcard in the room on arrival which was a nice touch.

Maylands Lodge is a historic landmark property located in the New Town area of Hobart. It is just an 8-minute drive from the city center and the historic Hobart waterfront, including Salamanca Square....

Sometimes things go wrong, and it's how the staff address the problem that makes the customer service good. Upgraded room was lovely (1st Pic). Although we still had to ask for robes and coffee pods. View was amazing. Room no. 10 - It was the Premium suite with terrace access (which is not really accessible - you would have to climb out the window and stand on the flat roof) - Hunter The hotel itself is beautiful - great views around it, old and full of character and clean in the communal areas.

FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. It was a good place to take day trips to Bruny Island or Port Arthur and other notable places. The Salamanca Markets is a must. I was surprised at how hilly it is.

MONA was an amazing experience. Great ferry ride, interesting and sometimes challenging exhibits and meal, wait staff and entertainment at Farro restaurant were incredible. The location is everything when describing this property. You are literally right above where Salamanca markets are held. There are heaps of dining and drinking options within a minutes walk. Art galleries, shops, CBD etc is only minutes away by walking. A few days earlier I had stayed in North Hobart and compared to that hotel, which was a 20 minute walk up/down a hill, the location of Galleria could not be topped. Highly recomment. The apartment was so spacious. Heaps of room for working, sleeping and playing!

We arrived on a late evening flight, and the hotel made arrangements for our after hours access to our room - these arrangements were made by the Motel at the time of the booking, so we had everything in place well ahead of the trip. The hotel is surrounded by a variety of restaurants and a supermarket, so you do not need to travel far for great meal options. However, the location is close to Battery Point and Hobart CBD, so you have many options. The rooms are spacious, the shower is hot, and the towels are plush.

Beautiful hotel, very original in conception. Wonderful location, just on the old Macquarie wharf at Hobart's tourist port. Excellent organization and careful management by the hotel's team. Closely linked to the history of the city of Hobart, whose colourful characters are finely sketched on the doors of the rooms. Excellent food at the "Old Wharf Restaurant" and very fine selection of Tasmanian gins, whiskies and vodkas at the "Evolve Spirits" bar. Congratulations.
