Hotel Sirius features a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of Funchal’s picturesque city center. It has free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and offers spacious guest rooms with private balconies.

The only good thing about this place is its location. There was no place available at the underground parking. Room extremely dark, broken bedside tables. Beetles in the bathroom… better not to touch the mirror. Very loud around the clock. And the breakfast - bread with cheese / ham and butter, no vegetables not to mention fruits, there were cereals but any bowl to put it in

FAQs about hotels in Funchal

Portuguese Charm and Island Capital

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal, charming Funchal is the capital of Madeira Island. It's an important base for tourists from all over the world that come to the Madeira hotels, B&B’s and resorts to enjoy their cliffs and beaches, as well as the island's slopes and colorful towns.

Founded in 1424, its location allowed it to quickly become an important trading harbor, attracting many prominent families. Its mild weather was the beginning of its touristic development in the 18th century, with a therapeutic and health profile.

With the establishment of the port first, and Madeira International/Funchal Airport later, the city grew to become a major destination. Nowadays, the city concentrates most of the hotels, luxury resorts and casinos on Madeira. Accommodations located in Santa Cruz, near Funchal Airport, are also available for those trying to avoid the rush.

Don’t miss a long walk around Sé historical district, and enjoy the Santa Clara Convent and the Sé Cathedral. The Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park and the Mercado dos Lavradores are also a must.

Whether you need an ocean-view villa or a small guesthouse, Booking.com has a wide range of Funchal accommodations.

Funchal is one of my favorite "go to" places for a short break. Its very neat, clean and beautiful. We visited CR7 museum and travelled on the red topless tourist bus to 'Camara de Lobos'. We ate the typical 'Espetada em pau de loureiro' which is beef on a bay leave skewer. We visited the market every day because the quantity and quality of fruit is amazing. We tried both the passion fruit and lemon Poncha several times. It is an amazing drink but quite strong, so take care. We went up with the cable car to the 'Monte Palace Tropical Garden' but because it was raining the whole day, it was not possible to ride the basket down. We ate at the restaurant 'Alto do Monte' where we had an amazing meal and I highly recommend. If you stay in the centre of Funchal, it is easy to get around with public transportation, other wise the best way is Uber.

Madeira is a beautiful place. but it is completely overcrowded with tourists, even in the off-season. The infrastructure of the island is disastrous and absolutely not ready for so many people. Treks are crowded, you can't find parking, some even charge. Good restaurants only in Funchal, other places are terrible. Good for rock lovers, not for normal tourists.

    You can find everything here.

You can find everything here. A cultural hub,a lot of activities starting from the city, thousands of restaurants and bars of every kind, many beautiful botanical gardens, good and cheap local bus transport, very kind, helpful and patient local people, near beach (Praia Formosa), day trips from town to different parts of the island, cheap supermarkets with local and international food, cheap and good vegetables and fruits of different sorts.

Funchal is lovely and very clean and beautiful. The seafood is excellent and the floral displays in the park and the Botanic Gardens are wonderful. Everyone seemed to speak English and most were very helpful. I would love to go again.

Great place for a walking holiday and Taxi's and Public transport are really good so you don't really need a car. We also picked Funchal as trips and busses all start from here to everywhere on the island. Locals seem genuinely friendly and honest and not at all pushy. Weather can be very changeable so be prepared. Some roads and paths can be extremely steep as well. Treat the paths with respect as injuries or even fatalities are not unknown on the island.

What a wonderful little gem in central Funchal. Only stayed one night due to flight disruption but would happily go back. Staff are beyond helpful and so friendly (unlike one other hotel we stayed in). Room was gorgeous, air conditioning a bonus. Loved the free Madeira and chocolates, a generous touch. Despite it being on a side street I had the best sleep of our entire time on Madeira. The breakfast basket was delicious and unexpected.

Really lovely and well designed apartment in an excellent location. Feels like you are in the heart of the Old Town but yet it's nice and quiet. We had been staying outside of Funchal and only stayed here on our final night in Madeira, we regret not spending more time here as the apartment was so nice and the location was perfect.

The hotel is beautiful, especially the rooftop area where you get 360° views of Funchal. A few steps from the market and supermarket and the ocean at the bottom of the street. The staff are especially helpful and lovely. We will stay here again if we can get back to Madeira.
