City Where The Country Was Born

One of Poland’s oldest cities and a birthplace of the Polish nation, Poznan is the capital city of the Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) region. Famous for international trade fairs, high quality shopping and popular festivals, this city is on the rise!

Its colorful medieval Old Town flourishes with dozens of bars, cafés and pubs open until the early hours of the morning. During warm days, you can sit in one of the pretty beer gardens and admire the architecture and the world going by.

For something different, check out Europe’s only steam-hauled passenger train and ride to Greater Poland National Park. Alternatively, visit the reconstructed brewery and shop, as the Old Brewery is now one of the world’s best shopping malls.

Poznan lies halfway between Berlin and Warsaw, perfectly combining the old and the new, from Ostrow Tumski with its beautiful St. Peter’s and Paul’s Cathedral, to the glass and steel of Poznan International Fair and the city's skyscrapers.

Booking.com has a wide range of accommodations in Poznan to fit all your needs, from convenient hotels, to stylish apartments and budget hostels. So whenever you happen to arrive at Poznan Lawica Airport, you’re only minutes away from exploring this fascinating city.

We were there for three days and never left the city center. There are museums and other historical sites to see that can keep you busy for several days. Catholic cathedrals, the old town hall, and plentiful excellent restaurants made our stay memorable.

Lovely city in Poland to spend the weekend.

Lovely city in Poland to spend the weekend. Just enough attractions to keep you busy for a 48-hour trip. The old main square is the main attraction with all the beautiful colourful buildings. You do feel like you have been transported back in time to a fairytale. Other things to do - the basilica nearby, the observation deck at the castle and the old brewery complex (now a modern shopping complex). In general, just a lovely place to stroll around. Also, do not miss seeing the mechanical goats in the main square everyday at midday. Drinks and food fairly cheap, which also makes it a good value stay. I can imagine it is lovely at Christmas - but equally beautiful in spring, when I visited.

You only need 2-3 days there to see everything.

You only need 2-3 days there to see everything. Good train links as I went to Berlin from here and back again. The old town is pretty and easy to walk around without transport. I did use the main train line to reach the citadel park and it was 90p. Cheap compared to England as we had 2 hot drinks and 4 doughnuts for £5 in the station. The shopping centres in the station and old brewery were good. Wasn't there long enough to look at trams and get used to them. It was very quiet in February and there was hardly anyone about.

A very nice, clean, quiet city. Interesting historical places and museums. Very easy to get around and safe. It would have been much better if there were signs in English and English scriptions in museums

Location is perfect, right next to Stary Browar shopping mall; the Old Town (Stary Rynek) is around 15 minutes walk. The central railway station (where the airport bus arrives) is also very close, 10 mins walk or 1-2 stops via tramway. Hotel Traffic is ideal for a short citybreak, very clean and comfortable. I did not ask for breakfast, so no experience. There was no fridge in the room but the hotel offers a commonly used, fully equipped kitchen, so for myself it was not a tragedy. Staff was very kind and helpful.
