Bogotá is a huge city, difficult to get around, dirty, a bit dangerous and the people are a bit snobby… what else would you expect for the Capitol City with a poplulation well over 10 million?
Did I forget to mention the weather is absolute crap?
If you’re here for a few days, definitely check out:
1. Monserrate (Pray it’s not raining or foggy)
2. Police museum in la Candelaria
3. BBC

Would have loved to see more of the many beautiful churches and wish I could have experienced more of the restaurants. Highly recommend a trip to the top of Monserrate especially if the weather is nice. Everything pretty low cost and plenty of Ubers.

The cities in the itinerary--Bogota, Coffee Triangle,...
The cities in the itinerary--Bogota, Coffee Triangle, Medellin, and
Cartagena were perfect as each one had its own characteristics and
differed from each other so one could appreciate them more. Each one had its own charm, food was good. I have been traveling for 50 years and was pleasantly surprised with the country.
One needs to be careful while there as petty crime does exist. As an
example, I was robbed $75 FROM THE SAFE of the hotel in Bogota.
This is a hotel listed under Booking.com. I have reserved many hotels in other countries under Booking.com and was never robbed.
Also was told that a young French tourist was robbed of his phone in Medellin, just as he was using it. A guy came by on a motorcycle and took it very fast.
Other than the above negative incident, I found the people to be very nice, pleasant and helpful. The country is very modern, particularly as you exit the airport. I went on a tour and all transportation arrangements were perfect. Also the souvenirs and crafts are very unique and most of them are hand made by artists and/or skilled laborers.

What were our favorite spots?
What were our favorite spots?
We really loved the views from Cerro de Monserrate—it’s a must-see, especially at sunset. The walk along Septima Avenida was also really enjoyable, full of life, music, and street art. La Candelaria was another favorite for its colorful colonial architecture and cozy cafés. And the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) and National Museum were fascinating!
Where did we eat?
We tried a few local spots nearby. One standout was La Puerta Falsa, La Perseverancia Market Plaza, La Concordia Market Plaza—super fun atmosphere and great Colombian food. We also had some delicious arepas and empanadas at a small place near the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel itself was excellent too—tons of variety and really tasty!
Is getting around Bogotá easy?
Mostly, yes! We used taxis and ride-share apps like DiDi and Uber, which were reliable and affordable. The city is busy, so traffic can be a bit heavy at times, but getting around was manageable. If you’re up for it, walking is great in the historic areas, and many attractions are close together.
What are some fun activities for young couples like you?
So many! A cable car ride up Monserrate is super romantic with stunning views. Exploring Bogotá’s museums and street markets is fun and low-key. We also enjoyed a night out in Zona T, which has a lively bar and restaurant scene. And if you like art, walking through the graffiti tours in La Candelaria is both cool and creative.

I really enjoyed Bogotá.
I really enjoyed Bogotá. Some of the kindest and warmest people I have come across. I felt very safe and listened to the locals advice always. The historic neighbourhood of Candelaria was my favourite spot. The Museo de Oro is fantastic as well. We did a walking tour with company Beyond Colombia. It was excellent.

The buffet breakfast is nice and the scrambled eggs were really good. The hotel is in a safe area, close to Parque 93 (where you can find bars and restaurants). To visit the centre of Bogotà you'll need a taxi (about 30min), which however is not a big deal since taxis are pretty cheap for European standards. Depending on the time of the day it might cost between 8.000-and 40.000 pesos. Avoid the rush hour (17:00-19:00) since the traffic in Bogotà can get very chaotic. We took a taxi at around 18:00 and almost drove for 1,5h
We booked it because traffic in Bogota is crazy so we wanted to be close to the airport, which this hotel is. Also, it was pretty cheap. The room is clean, the stuff is nice. I was actually surprise, because the reviews on booking say about dirty rooms etc. Our room and hallways were really very clean. Wifi worked well. Safe parking is provided close the hotel. Staff was friendly, but with no English (but this is normal in Colombia). There is a lot of shops, bakeries, restaurants etc around.
The hotel is in a great location; La Candelaria is within walking distance, and there are plenty of restaurants, parks, museums in the immediate surroundings. We had a great view of Bogota from the room. The staff was really nice and helpful, good English spoken at the reception desk. The internet connection was really good, the best we experienced anywhere in Colombia. Breakfast is good, too. Excellent value for money.
Great proximity to the airport and free transfers - was easy to find the meeting point. Hotel breakfast was plentiful and excellent. Perfect if you land into Bogota late in the evening.
