Cavtat was recommended to us and we were delighted with our visit. It is on a beautiful bay with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are a number of walks around the headlands and the sunsets are lovely. Dubrovnik can be reached by boat ( water taxi ) or bus and is beautiful. However it can get very busy and it is nice to stay in a calmer place such as Cavtat. The transfer from the airport is quick as it is not far. water taxi to dubrovnik is fun way to get to the city 20 euro return per person. The cable car in dubrovnik was expensive and not really worth the trip. spend it on a day trip somewhere else as you will get to see the wonderful views. If , like us, you fancy visiting Dubrovnik but don't want to...
If , like us, you fancy visiting Dubrovnik but don't want to stay in amongst the crazy overcrowded streets may I suggest Catvat; To get to Dubrovnik there's an hourly ferry (20 euros, anytime return) or a bus for 4 Euros. Back to Catcvat; It's beatuiful, welcoming, super clean and not a "boom, boom, boom bar" to be seen...or more importantly heard. Lovely walks along the bay and plenty of options for eating and drinks. Pleasantly busy but not crowded or noisy. Good options for trips into Dubrovnik and lovely scenic valley inland of the airport which is near but you don't get the planes flying overhead.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom

Fabulous sea views and large balcony to enjoy the sunset. Fresh bottled water was left in room every day and there was sunscreen products beside the pool. They were free to use which was a nice touch. Gym facility was small but excellent equipment for a hotel gym.
