Very clean and good service. We were confused by some of the negative reviews and realized that some of the older reviews seem to be from another hotel that was under and new management.

El Calafate is a small city in Argentinean Patagonia, situated in the foothills of the Andes and on the shores of Argentino Lake. Blending colourful wooden houses and Alpine-influenced architecture, it is the gateway to the Glaciers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in El Calafate and surroundings, from 5-star hotels to cheap hostels.
The area was originally inhabited by the ‘Aonikenk’ people, while the modern settlement grew at the beginning of the 20th century as a refuge along the wool trade route, taking its name from the native blueberry bush known as ‘Calafate’. The town was founded by the Argentinean government in 1927 to promote the colonisation of the area, but its development started only after the creation of the National Park, in 1937.
The famous Perito Moreno Glacier is 80 km from the city. Mount Fitz Roy, the small town of El Chaltén, the romantic Onelli Bay, Lago del Desierto, and Roca Lake are some of the impressive landmarks that make up Argentina‘s 2nd-largest natural reservation. If you want to experience Patagonia’s languid vastness and tranquillity, try some of El Calafate’s rural accommodation or ‘estancias’.

We stayed two nights in El Calafate, visited Mereno Glacier national park for a day, another day, relaxed in the city. we really enjoyed walking along the Argentina river walkway, also visited nature conservancy, there are so many waterfowls in the lake (river), first time saw black neck swan, I wished I brought binocular with me to enjoy the bird watching. It supposes to have Grebe's and Flamingos, dozens of species.
the first week of April, all the tall trees leave in the city are changing to golden yellow Fall color, with Spanish style houses, it is really a pretty and warm town. with delicious food and drinks. Really enjoyed

Loved the All glaciers boat trip - well organized with plenty of time to enjoy the ride and the views. We went with SoloPatagonia and found it perfect for us. It takes all day, but we had time to drive to Perito Moreno Glacier and enjoy a shot visit before the closed.
We found El Calafate has great restaurant options, ice cream shops and shopping.
Another day, we drove to Chalten and completed one of the hikes looking at Fitz Roy mountain... loved the town of Chalten, the vibe, restaurants and nature. We would like to come back and stay there at least one night to complete more hikes.

This is a great little town which has some eccentiricies - there's no zoning so you have car repair and other businesses in the middle of single family neighborhoods, and LOTS of dogs roaming around and (especially in the middle of the night) loudly. barking at each other whether singly or in packs. Weird. Outside that, lots of restaurants on the main drag, LOTS of small lodging opportunities scattered among residential housing - tourist-friently, relatively safe.
English (at least fluent) is less common here, but manageable for English-native speakers willing to work at it.

Booked a whole dorm as private room for me and husband. A little strange sleeping in bunk beds but there's a great vibe in the communal areas, the rooms are very warm, the view is amazing and everything is extremely clean. Breakfast was varied and good value for money. Ate dinner at the hostel one night and although the price was approaching restaurant level (albeit with a free wine) the grill was some of the best we've had in Argentina.
The hotel has a perfect location, and the ratio of location, price, staff and everything else is great! The price is more than excellent for the center of El Calafate, compared to other places of accommodation and compared to all the prices of the town! Danny and his family are uniquely hospitable people who understand all the needs of their customers! They are planning to renovate their hostel soon and I hope to see you again…
Beautiful view of Lago Argentino from the room. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend working with the hotel concierge to coordinate day trips. Given how tight-knit the El Calafate tourism community is, they're able to streamline the trip planning and coordinate directly with tourism companies.
Really nice and cute hotel/lodge. We were greated and welcomed extremely friendly and could ask for help anytime. Cozy living room overlooking El Calafate
