At the southwestern tip of its beautiful lake, Como has wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A cable car runs up to the village of Brunate, where you can see Switzerland on the opposite side.
The peaceful location is a favorite with celebs, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next-door Broletto dates to the previous century, and the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello are even older and sit on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style, the Casa del Fascio was built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighboring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodations on Booking.com include luxury lakefront hotels, centrally located B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, with direct services to Milan.

Make sure to take the funicular as early in the day as possible. At first, I thought there was just a single hotel at the top—but it turns out there’s an entire town up there, and it’s definitely worth exploring.
That said, go early! When we came down around 11 a.m., the line was already enormous—crazy long.
Also, don’t miss Fratelli Coppola. They serve what’s probably the best pizza in town—a pure Neapolitan chef-d’œuvre.

The beauty of Como is beyond belief.
The beauty of Como is beyond belief. Many, many, cafes, coffee shops, a beautiful city centre around the cathedral, and .. it's Italy. The people are all so friendly and courteous. Many different villages along Lake Como to visit. Just taking the ferry gives enough eye candy to keep you satisfied for ages.

Como provides something for everyone, quaint streets to stroll down, great selection of shops and plentiful bars and restaurants to choose from. Getting the boat to other areas on the lake is a must, all very different, smaller villages with their own charm and appeal.

It was the 5th time or so we went to Como. We love Como because it is not too crowdy and not yet discovered by tourists. A nice place to be, to eat well and do some shopping. Shops are local stores: you will not find Louis Vuitton or Channel nor Zara or Mango. But this makes the place so unique and interesting. Nice walks in the green and of course the enjoy the lake.

A beautiful hotel, and the person who received us was a very nice man. To be honest, for the first time I found the room better than the pictures on Booking, since I travel a lot in Italy 🇮🇹and Morocco🇲🇦. My greetings to the owners of this beautiful hotel for their kindness, good reception, and cleanliness of the hotel
Location is fantastic. Right on the Lake front. Restaurant attached to the Hotel is also excellent. Food very good, plenty of waiters and all very happy to be of assistance. Breakfast is basic - but entirely acceptable. Perfect location to explore the lake and Como itself. Very short walk from the Station
The apartment was beautiful & perfectly located in Como Old Town; a 10 minute walk from the lake, and very central to all restaurants and sites around. It was also very secure & I felt extremely safe throughout the trip. It had all the necessary facilities for a 5 day stay in Italy.
A really nice hotel located in the heart of Como old town 15 mins walking distance from the lake. The room/studio big enough for two people, TV, kichten annex, additional blankets. Definitely would stay there again.
