Most authentic visit we had in Luxor. Business is family owned. Staff is authentic and super friendly. Excellent mix of comfort and authentic experience. The hotel features a nice restaurant at roof top facing Luxor temple and good view of the Nile. Special thanks to Ms Reem at the reception and Mr Bassel and Mr Ahmed. The list really goes on and on. Food menu was delicious. Breakfast was great and the kids (and us) loved the board games at the restaurant. Very safe and friendly and homey neighborhood. Thank you guys.

Very, it is extremely tastefully decorated. We love all the soft bed linens, dressing gowns, toiletries with beautiful perfume. Staff are welcoming and restaurants serve really good food. Also the mini fridge in the room is completely complementary!

This spot is a real gem. First, please consider staying on West Bank if you want to avoid the circus on the East Side. One advantage is that you can head straight to Valley of the Kings first thing in the morning and possibly be the only visitor in the first couple of tombs you visit. Absolutely worth an early wake up call.
The hotel is simple and cozy, clean with hot showers. I loved my balcony and the rooftop restaurant (great Egyptian food). I slept soundly each night. It is very close to the public ferry or motor boats to get across the river.
Above all, the staff here are just excellent. I stayed for only four nights and got to know all of them by name. They treated me like family when I was in the hotel. They also helped me navigate luxor with taxis and arrange a tour further afield to Abydos and Dendera. Shokran to the staff who took the time to answer my questions about modern Egyptian life in the evenings after taking in the ancient remnants in the daytime. I give the highest recommendation to El Gezira Hotel.

Nour el Balad is an absolute gem tucked away from all the crowds. The guesthouse is a traditionally built home with lovely little details and decorations everywhere, and palm furniture including the beds. The breakfast included is delicious, but make sure to stay for lunch or dinner — the roast duck and molokhiya are absolutely outstanding! Luxor’s restaurant scene isn’t amazing and we ended up eating dinner at Nour al Balad every night of our week-long stay. Abdullah and his team offer warm hospitality and can also help with transfers and taxis as needed. We have stayed there twice now and can’t wait to return!!

Trip of a lifetime.....you have to decide East Bank or West Bank.
West Bank is close to the Valley of the Kings.....but East Bank has the museums, hotels, restaurants etc.
We got a taxi to East Bank each night and ate in The Steigenberger-Thai restaurant....excellent
The balloon ride is not for the faint-hearted.....we landed in a wheat field and had a whip round for the distraught farmer....22 in the basket.
Make sure you have afternoon tea in the garden of The Winter Palace...
minimum 10$ spend...memorable

Stay on the East Bank of the Nile River instead of the West...
Stay on the East Bank of the Nile River instead of the West Bank. This is even though you are visiting the Valley of the Kings and the other places on the West Bank. Uber doesn't work here like Cairo or Hurghada. So contact this Driver - +20 1227932489 via WhatsApp. He is very helpful and genuine. Use Uber to get the actual rates to travel to location. For us, it said 150 Egyptian. At the Airport most drivers said 1200 - 1500. We turned them all down. Then we had one old driver say 350 to take us to the West Bank and he took us there. We also made deal with him to take us to Valley of Kings and the other temples for 1100 Egyptian the following day for the full day and we enjoyed the tour. However, he didn't come to pick us up but sent someone else with a different car. During the tour, the car changed twice in between the tour and so did drivers. But it was well co-ordinated. The following day, we reached out to him again and we booked for the East bank tour of Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. Costed us 1500 Egytian. Our next trip was to Hurghada and he told us to opt for GoBus by booking tickets online. This was the best thing that happened to us. By Taxi it would have costed us 3000-3500 but by bus total came to 1450 odd. These Go-bus are great for intercity travel across Egypt. Even Cairo to Luxor would have costed us 400 Egyptian instead of our flight fare. This would have made it massively economical and overnight. This was a learning.

Don't go on a tour boat to see this amazing city, come and stay in a hotel overlooking the Nile! There are superb hotels at affordable prices. You can visit all the historical sites at a time of day to suit you and even with a private guide, such as the superb Nana at Nasco Tours. If you come on a boat, you'll probably find everywhere is busy because most of the boats all visit on the same day of the week. I imagine also you will be packing a lot into one day, and it can get very hot. We stayed 6 nights and still had only begun to scratch the surface of what Luxor has to offer, but we got early starts to do the egyptology visits and then lazed by the pool in the hot afternoons.

Unfortunately all balloon flights were cancelled for the...
Unfortunately all balloon flights were cancelled for the duration of our stay in Luxor so our itinerary was:
Day 1: East Bank: Karnak and Luxor temple
Day 2: West Bank: Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut temple, Medinat Habu and Colossi of Mendmon
Day 3: Private day trip to Abydos and Dendara
Day 4: West Bank: Valley of the Nobles and Deir El Medina
Day 5: West Bank: Stroll along the Nile, relax by the pool.
I looked at images of the the kings', nobles' and workers' tombs online in advance to decide which were worth seeing and which weren't, though it's a lottery whether the kings' tombs you choose are open or not as they vary. Unless you want to stay at expensive hotels and eat at expensive restaurants, I recommend staying on the West Bank which is quieter and more laid-back than the East Bank. On the East Bank, taxi drivers, caleche drivers, boat owners, etc don't take no for an answer and are annoying. On the West Bank, they'll ask if you want a taxi or boat and when you say "no thank you" they'll say "you're welcome" or "have a nice day". We stayed a few minutes walk from the ferry on the West Bank and on our last day took a stroll south along the river bank and soon were in the countryside among traditional rural life. The rooftop restaurant of El Masala Hotel on the West Bank has superb views of the Nile and Luxor Temple directly opposite. The service was a bit inefficient but the food was inexpensive and delicious. The first time we went the waiter said we have wine and beer (which isn't on the menu) so I ordered a beer. It was obviously he had to go and buy it from somewhere else as it took a while. The next time, they had beer in.

Visiting Karnak Temple is a must if you go to Luxor.
Visiting Karnak Temple is a must if you go to Luxor. Also, Medinet Habu and Valley of the Kings is an obligatory stop.
Other notable places to visit: Luxor Temple and the avenue of the sphinxes, Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Queens.
If you have time, take a taxi to Dendera and visit Temple of Hathor or do a hot air balloon tour on the west bank

Great location, very convenient for exploring all the sights, with a lovely rooftop restaurant with views over Luxor Temple. The hotel were able to arrange a tour to the West Bank with a bespoke itinerary and a very knowledgeable guide. Tasty breakfast with a range of Egyptian/international options. Room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very attentive and helpful.
Honestly, the best value for money ever! Everyone here is very kind and honest. The hotel is right in downtown: market, train station and Luxor temples, all 5 min by foot.
Breakfast is simple but ver fresh and complete.
Staff is friendly, talkative and tbh feels like a relief if it is your first time in Egypt.
If you can, book tours with them, they have fair prices.
Location is perfect. Right next to the nile.om the calm side. You can take the public ferry (Google maps shows location), for 10 to 20 Egyptian pounds. Very nice rooftop, clean and nice little pool. People working there are very nice. It's a little oasis in chaotic luxor where everyone tries to scam you. Also they help you organize tours for a reasonable price.
The staff were absolutely amazing. We’ve been in Egypt for 3 weeks. Travelled to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada. We’ve stayed in all 5 star hotels. This has to be the best experience we’ve had in a 5 star hotel. The staff went out of the way to celebrate my daughters birthday who turned 4 with cake and music. I would definitely recommend if you visit Luxor.
Extraordinary customer service which rivals any luxury hotel. The location was perfect, walking distance from the Karnak and Luxor Temples. 24/7 supermarket in the building. Swimming pool was nice and clean.
The dinner was ridiculously abundant, very delicious authentic Egyptian food at a good price
