There was tea and a little milk, but no breakfast but we did not expect any. The place was nice, clean, near everything and of good value. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied and easy to navigate.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery but just a few minutes' walk from Hay-On-Wye's center, this charming inn has a traditional wooden-beamed bar.

The location was great and all of the staff were so friendly! We loved your back patio, sitting out in the sun every day! We loved the uniqueness of room 4 and all the wonky lines. :)

Everyone comes to Hay for the books and not just for the festival at the end of May. It's a town that is easy to get around and the car park by the craft centre and school now takes cards thank goodness. We grabbed a curry on the Friday night from Leaf, a small place that currently had a deal with Tapitas, a Spanish wine bar so we could take the meal there and add drinks. Plenty of coffee bars day time and the Globe has a decent burger place. We still reckon the original Booth's bookshop is the best for range and quality, although niche stores like Murder and Mayhem are a must for crime novel fans. There's also a nice riverside walk if you are feeling energetic.

    Wonderful Town of books!

Wonderful Town of books! This is my home town and I moved away when I was 4 but still love to return. Great shops and the market is wonderful too wander around when it’s in town. Lots of independent shops to wander around plus lots of wonderful walks on your doorstep, the river walk is especially great. Dinner at The Old Black Lion is great and if pizzas are your thing then the three runs do fantastic pizzas!

Hay is one of the most attractive towns on the borders, with a super range of shopping experiences. Book shops predominate but there is also a wealth of cafes, clothes shops, antiques and vintage and art shops. There is also a colourful Saturday market. For us the highlight was the walking with easy access to the Brecons, Black Mountains and Offas Dyke.

Book town , as it’s known lovely independent shops - huge variety of book shops to peruse at your leisure, lovely cafes and eateries, I went in midweek, which was lovely, but I think more happens at the weekend, small compact bijou - perfecfor the silver surfers to idle away time, and a great base for more ambient who want to slog up hills!

    Great place for book lovers.

Great place for book lovers. It is really quite a small town, but the amount of bookshops is shocking! There are plenty to choose depending on your preferences, some are more general and some more specific. I particularly liked the LGBT bookshop "Gay on Wye" (I like a play on words! ) and Addyman´s, which has a cool decoration and special vibe to it (not the most suitable for people with limited mobility tho, there is steep stairs and books in the floor everywhere). Richard Booth is also a beautiful one, not only for books but also art and craft materials. If you are looking for a different type of shopping, there is also a bunch of small businesses selling jewellery, crafts, music vinyls, local foods... On Thurdsays it´s the market and the town is more animated. I had food in the pub Blue Boar and in Shepherds Parlour and I recommend both, the second one also has good ice cream ;) The walk along the river is also beautiful, if you are looking to stretch your legs and enjoy the nature.

    Hay was very interesting.

Hay was very interesting. We spent a great deal of time at the castle, the guide was happy to answer a great many questions and spend a lot of time explaining the history of the house. The riverside walk was very pleasant. However, we were unable to get a pub meal in the evening as none of them were cooking.

Local town hotel, such a change from the usual corporates. Right next to the town. The Swan had some atmosphere and so good to relax for a few days. Room was big enough, shower worked, bed was comfy. A little bit old fashioned perhaps but what would you expect in Hay! Afternoon and evenings was very warm so a drink in the garden was pretty near perfection.

Very clean and close to all amenities in Hay. Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The parking space was appreciated too. We stayed one night and it was more than adequate. Internet connection was good, tea and coffee was available which was really nice.

The property was in a great location, was very spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The croissants, jam, biscuits & fruit were a nice surprise. It was great to have a nice living area to relax in, instead of being crammed into a small hotel room.
