Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. We hired a car to explore the whole island.

Tip: 1) avoid the buses as most as you can! Bikerentals are awesome! Maesato beach belongs to a hotel but day guests are welcome, just follow the signs on the property.
Tip 2) Definitely take a ferry to Taketomi, rent a bike there
Tip 3) Taxi to airport is about 3500 yen
Tip 4) Find out when rain season is

Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. Took a very enjoyable day trip to Taketomi Island.

The accommodation offered a breathtaking view of coral reefs with a lush jungle as its backdrop. We spent our days walking down to the nearby beach, enjoying swims and snorkelling adventures in the warm waters. Our host even took us on a tour where he showed us clownfish, adding a layer of wonder to our stay. If you're a nature enthusiast yearning for a tropical escape that connects you with the natural world, this place is an absolute paradise.

I liked that you can get around in short time and still have a big variety of things you can do. I was there in Feb and no watersports was possible for me as it was too cold. Went to Karibe for a walk and to Iriomote for a bike ride.

A beautiful island, which is surprisingly big as it takes about 3 hours / 120km to drive the ourter circumference.
Once you get outside of the main town it is exceedingly quite, with beachtiful beaches and countryside.
A car is a must!
The main town has easy access by boat to other remote islands. Taketomi was only about 15 minutes away, with stunning beaches, a good bike rental service with shuttle bus from the port and ox-cart rides!

Atmosphere very relaxed and foreigner friendly. Close to beautiful coral-reef beaches, including one right at the hotel. A 20-minute paddle from a river with an incredible mangrove forest. They offer free kayaks and have reasonably priced rental cars. The staff will pick you up and deposit you at the airport. The breakfast was excellent. The other food at the restaurant, which was mostly Western style, was pretty good. Made for a terrific trip.
The hotel room was very clean and I liked the overall atmosphere! There was even a washer and dryer in the room. The coffee and drinks available in the lobby were also very good. The location was very convenient as it is a 20-minute walk or short drive to the ferry terminal/downtown area. However, the very best part was the owner and staff, who were incredibly generous and kind. We hope to visit here again next time we visit Ishigaki.
Having your own transportation is recommended. There is a busstop nearby but there are only a few busses each day, so you need a cab at night to get back to the hotel from out of town (~1800Y). The hotel doesn't offer breakfast and has limited offer for dinner (nice btw). Friendly thoughtful staff, always around, working hard. Very clean and spacious rooms. There's a nice roof terrace to go stargazing when it's a clear night.
Everybody was so welcoming and helpful and especially we would like to thank our driver and reception staff. We were picked up from the hotel, which is a huge bonus after a very long flight. We were also given a lift back at the end of our stay. We were able to rent a car from the hotel which gave us the freedom to explore the whole island. We ate every night at the hotel- the food was excellent.
A beautiful secluded location with choices of several sandy beaches which were effectively private. The decent-sized room had a great view of the sea. Real tasty meals - we had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. The real selling point were the staff - they were the most human and humble people we met during our trip to Japan. They make this boutique hotel very special. So friendly and helpful.
This is a great small hotel in Maezato. It is a short 10-minute walk to a clean, sandy beach that is maintained by ANA resort. There is an imported foods grocery shop about 5 min walk away, and another a bit further down the highway. The kitchenette had pots and dishes available, and the washer had laundry soap, which was handy. The Hammock massage spa is a short walk away.
Hotel was nice, breakfast was buffet with several options. Room was comfortable. I appreciated a lot the community bath, was very relaxing. We could rent bicycles and towels for the pool (bedroom towels not allowed). Bus stop is right in front of the hotel. Small restaurant/truck food less than 5 mins walk from the restaurant. Small gift shop with also drinks and snacks.
ANA Intercontinental Ishigaki Resort was an absolute dream stay! Being slow starters and not one to be out and about consistently when on vacation, it was great having so many facilities and eating options even within the hotel. The breakfasts were exceptional - had me excited for the next morning every night and staff really did cater to every need.
Despite being an unmanned hotel, the check-in procedure was very simple. Parking was a little confusing, but we worked it out eventually. Clean, spacious, and with all the required amenities. Good value for money.
It's slightly far out from the main street of ishigaki, but there are plenty of taxis to choose on the street outside.
Fully automated hotel, there are no people at the reception. You open door with an application and it is convenient. Room is rather large for Japan, bus stop is nearby and it is easy to reach port. Room has kitchen , washing and drying machines - perfect for my diving trip. I stayed 1 week - it was good.
Big comfortable house with everything working, Yonehara beach with a reef - National park - with hips of fish you can swim from the beach, no currents or waves, in 8 minute drives from the house. Helpful owners who helped me communicate with car rental in Japanese when me car had troubles.
This was a pretty and comfortable hotel, with a kind and helpful staff, next to a gorgeous and deserted beach. The price was right, and the location was perfect for a relaxing three-day trip exploring the island (with a rental car, necessary).
it is a capsule-style dormitory room. it is separated into female/male rooms
the capsule Is pretty spacy, I can sit down straight easily (i am 163 cm standing up)
it is my first time sleeping so comfortably in a capsule-style hotel!
Perfect location if you are planning to go on boat tours that leave from the port. Close to so many restaurants and nightlife. On a quiet street. Very big space compared to other hotels. Washer and dryer made whole trip easier
it’s very very central. 5 mins walk to the ferry to the other islands and lots of bars, restaurants and shopping just at the foot step. the hotel is very clean and staff is great. free coffee and drinks whole day is good.
The best part of this hotel is the homeade rolls for breakfast! The location was perfect for taking a ferry in the morning, and even though we missed breakfast they gave us a bag with two delicious bread products each.
The staff was amazing!
The hotel is very well located, very clean and cosy.
I'll definitely book a room in this hotel the next time I'll go to Ishigaki.
