The communication with the owner Yann before I arrived was so helpful. He exudes kindness and compassion. I did a last minute booking after my connecting flights were cancelled twice which resulted in spending a surprise day in Rwanda en route from South Africa. I arrived around 5am; no sleep for 72 hours. Yann allowed me to check in so early and at that obscene hour which I was incredibly grateful for. Thank you again, Yann.
The place: you’re about a 25 minute drive from town (Arusha), located on a long dirt road. If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and tranquility, you will find it here. It’s a residential area on one side of the road (including Dan Stam), with rolling fields of green on the other as far as you can see of corn, black beans, and other produce. There are a couple schools on the same road. Locals sell their fruit and veg about a 10 minute walk from here: walk down the street toward the main road and make a left where you see a small yellow dwelling with a light blue gate— “Adela’s and Grandchildren Shop.” A bit down this road you will see people selling produce from blankets on the ground. Oh and fyi, there is no working ATM in the area so bring cash but I’d only carry a little with you. I’d also suggest using a crossbody bag. I felt safe here, but it is an impoverished area and foreigners appear to “have money.” So it’s best not to tempt potential thieves to snatch your bag which does happen on occasion.
The rooms are spotless, spacious, and with hot showers that don’t run out. They do a beautiful, generous breakfast. The fresh squeezed passion fruit juice was a highlight. The prices for dinner are very reasonable; about the same as in town. You must try the Mtori soup (traditional Tanzanian banana stew). Velvety creamy, rich, and filling. Mmm. And with a side of Mchicha. 😉
Keep in mind friends, if you choose to pay for meals at the hotel with a credit card you will be charged a 5% additional fee.

I attended a conference at the AICC and for convenience I ate my dinner at the Mount Meru Hotel. I enjoyed the safari to Tarangire Park and had a lovely goat and lamb BBQ at the local Kwa Mrombo (a street full of BBQ goat meat in Arusha).

Arusha is not a pleasant place, on the very dirty crowded streets there is non stop people grabbing and talking to you all wanting money, we had one person tell us about his mother in the hospital and wanted us to pay her bills. Arusha is a means to a safari and that is it.

Arusha is a busy city.
Arusha is a busy city.
I have visited old German Boma which was converted into Natural History Museum.
Seen also Arusha Declaration Monument and Clocktower which they claim it’s located in the middle of Africa or let say in the middle between Cairo and Cape Town.
They have some supermarkets like Shoppers Supermarket or AIM Mall on the way to Arusha Airport.
East African Community HQ and Heritage Museum.

A typical African city, colorful with open local markets and malls, safe to walk around and very friendly people. Ideal location to start your safari because most safari organisers start safaris from there. I’ll definitely visit Arusha again.

Great city to stay in.
Great city to stay in. Definitely the safari hub; at least four major safari destinations (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater) within a day's drive. Lots of great (if sometimes challenging) hiking to be done in the foothills of Mount Meru and the Kilimanjaro (or climb the mountains if you feel like it).
Easy access through Arusha (domestic) or Kilimanjaro (international) airports. Taxis are cheap, but make sure you agree on a price beforehand,

Good variety of shops and interesting cultural and heritage centre. Convenient place for starting point for safari. Views of mountains/hills at times. Climate not too hot. Maasai market interesting.
Comparing to other Hotels in Arusha, the Bright Star Hotel is very cheap. The toons have their own toilet and shower. The breakfast is very good and included in the price.. The staff is very helpful and can do anything for you. They can arrange cheap taxis for local prices.. Arusha can be very expensive, but if you go the Bright Star Hotel, then you have made the right decision.
Really nice and clean.I came back to enjoy this good energy in this place. There is no where else to compare. It’s surrounded by Nature.Kelvin the host is extremely friendly and attentive. The whole stuff is very friendly that you don’t want to leave.Very hot water and excellent wifi. This hotel is your best option in all Arusha without a doubt.
It is an old but charming Colonial-style hotel, well maintained. The room needs to be updated a little. We can not even find the plug near the bed for iPhone. However, the buffet dinner was beyond expectation, and the hotel looked warm and cozy. We walked outside for a while; although there was no pavement, we still loved the local vibe.
The location is a bit out of the center of Arusha but it's very nice to be outside the pollution and the noise. The hotel is cosy and the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. They work with another hotel Mambo Hideway which a small hidden romantic paradise to have a nice diner and cocktails.
I loved this hotel
The best hotel in Arusha! Hot water, amazing breakfast with cooked vegetables, great food, very central, the stuff is amazing, very helpful. Big thanks to the manager, he is the best! If you are in Arusha please stay in this hotel!
The Hotel is in the middle of Arusha, the streets outside are very busy and it is not a quiet area.
the dinner was a simple affair and the breakfast was the same, 2 meals that sufficed and were enough to carry you through the day.
Quiet and pleasant place, very local, almost a homestay more than a hotel. Location is very good: nice and safe area, walk 5 min to the road and get a local bus downtown to Arusha. Also very convenient for the JRO airport.
Good location for arriving in Arusha, near the bus station and easy to organize a safari or any activities in this area. Upstairs bar area for socializing but it was empty when I was there. Included breakfast was decent.
for the people who is starting / finishing safari trip i think its the best place to stay , its in the middle of arusha city , its not that pricy and very clean and big hotel . nice pool and nice breakfast .
Truly beautiful grounds and a top-notch, friendly staff who are helping me learn Swahili, great place for families or solo travelers. About 15 minute drive from Arusha, so it's nice
We stayed one night at Utamaduni hotel after landing at Arusha airport. Chris and Simone are friendly, room was clean, breakfast was very good ! We definitely recommand !
Agnes was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay! I will 100% recommend it and if I ever come back to Arusha I would stay here.
