Hotel Traveltine was an amazing place to stay as a family. The rooms had a very comfortable amount of space and even separated the shower and toilet into different rooms so they could be used separately. We found that because of this, the room could accommodate a four person family more comfortably than other hotels. In addition, the lobby serves pastries great for a quick breakfast and the staff speak English very competently. We can personally vouch for how helpful the staff were, since they worked with us quickly to send an item we left behind to the next hotel that we were staying at in Yotsuya. In both their rooms and their service, this hotel was exceptional at supporting us in our travels. If we were to come back to Kyoto in the future, we would be more than happy to begin another stay at this hotel.

Would highly recommend. Although the room was on the smaller side (as most are in Japan), it was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Highlight was the staff and food and its affordability. The food was exceptional, we take our hat off to the chef.

We stayed here at the beginning of our trip. We liked it, so we stayed there at the end of the trip also. As our return flight was late at night, we asked for a late check out and it was so easy to arrange that. The location was excellent. Only one station away from the airport and we could drag our luggage all the way without lifting them once. Lawson convenience store is inside the same building. A shopping centre with plenty of restaurants, a 24/7 family restaurant and a 24/7 supermarket are all nearby.

    We stayed in 3 different hotels within 1km of Namba Kansai...

    We stayed in 3 different hotels within 1km of Namba Kansai Airport station during 10 day trip. This is the main transport hub in Namba with tourist information office at the front facing out onto the pedestrianised plaza. GU shopping level 6 is across the street, bus to Aquarium is on the corner of the street, subway navigation needed from here to get to Osaka Castle and Universal Studios. The other Namba station to go to Nara is a 500m walk via underpass concourse accessed near the TIO. Keep in mind the train ticket to Kansai is bought on 2nd floor and mainline trains go from Umeda not Namba. Take train to Kyoto from Umeda. Kintetsu line at 2nd Namba station to Nara. Beware of restaurants who charge a service fee if you don't order a drink and when the drink is more than the service fee, annoying when you have childre. Osaka is not a pretty city but it is a functional one for transport hub, food variety and sightseeing. Oppressively hot to near 40 Celsius in early July.

    I loved the food and friendly people, but it’s very crowded with tourists and you have to go very early to get to sites. Also transportation is good but many do not speak English in cabs so that can be a challenge. Also many food vendors on streets required cash so make sure you keep some on you.

    Kobe is a great city to visit.

    Kobe is a great city to visit. A vibrant, buzzing and cosmopolitan city with memorable features such as the ropeway to the herb garden at the JR Shin Kobe Station at Sannomiya (an absolute must for visitors), the Maya cable car and ropeway and the Akashi bridge to Awaji Island.

    We only stayed one night when we arrived as we needed a place to recharge and freshen up before we head to Kyoto. The hotel is very nice with complete amenities in the room. The room we occupied has the view of the airport runway but we never heard any noise coming from the airplanes arriving and taking off. A bit expensive but it was worth it. Breakfast buffet was very good too.

    Nara is beautiful.

    Nara is beautiful. There are two UNESCO world heritage sites and lots of deer. If you are afraid of animals, I don't recommend it. The deer will follow you if you have food and they may try to take it from you if you hesitate or don't gently push them away. They are not, as a general rule, aggressive. A lot of tourists freak out and just throw their crackers. Don't do that. Stay calm. The deer don't want to hurt you, they just want a snack. They don't care for being pet either. Just snap your crackers (200 yen sold at different stands) into 3-4 pieces, hold out your hand flat and let them take it from you. Be aware of how many are around you. They will surround and nibble your clothing. I found this hilarious. I grew up with cows and they will pretty much do the same thing. Use your voice and be gentle. The one day bus pass is really useful. I wish I had more time in Nara.

    Himeji is obviously very famous for its castle, but other than that lacks many things to do. I found my time there to be rather boring, and we often struggled to find activities to fill our nights with. We used Himeji as a central location to take day trips from - since we booked during Golden Week, hotel prices in more ideal areas, such as Kobe, were heavily inflated and unreasonable.

    We are Americans so we had really little knowledge of...

    We are Americans so we had really little knowledge of Shirahama as a resort city. It was at the tail end of a 3 week tour of Japan and was very restful. Fortunately, we were there after Golden Week and before the main tourist season, so it was quiet and relaxing. We had fun over two nights at a local Turkish restaurant, Blue Bar. We'd recommend it. Also, the beach seemed quite nice although we had one day or rain so we didn't hang out there. While this wouldn't be a regular stop for Americans, I think it is worthwhile and an easy train ride to the airport in Osaka.

    The scenic mountains near the city offers stunning sunset views. The Sakura were in full bloom. There are several parks around the city, and the impressive Wakayama castle. The hotel (Candeo Hotels Nankai) is great value - fantastic river views, rooftop onsen that you can enjoy the sunset. And right at the Wakayama Station. Good dining options around the hotel too.

    One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns.

    One of Japan's six ancient kiln towns. If you are into ceramics it's a brilliant place to visit. If you're not, it's a lovely, relaxed town with nice walks and good places to eat. Very close to Nagoya airport. There is a free shuttle bus into Tokoname or use the station. Home of the lucky waving cat - Maneki Neko!
