About Halifax

Including tips for the best time to visit Halifax

The port city of Halifax is the capital of the Nova Scotia province in Canada. Thanks to its coastal location, the city has a rich maritime heritage and a gleaming skyline that rises majestically above the water.

When in Halifax, make some time to tour the 18th-century Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. This hilltop fort is laid out in the shape of a star, and is home to landscaped gardens, the Town Clock and the Army Museum. Aside from 360-degree views over the city, it offers experiences like ghost walks, cannon firing and live re-enactments by people dressed in period costumes. Another museum you should check out is the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, home to the warship ‘CSS Arcadia', naval artefacts and interesting exhibits on the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. Afterwards, you can walk along the coast to the Halifax Waterfront – a four-kilometre-long wooden walkway lined with eateries, shops and colourful hammocks where you can relax and feel the ocean breeze.

There are plenty of picturesque spots in Halifax where you can unwind and spend some time amidst nature. You can head to Point Pleasant Park – 75 hectares of forested area by the ocean, with criss-crossing trails, historic monuments and a beach to boot. Then there’s Canada’s oldest urban park, the 18th-century Halifax Common, home to several sports grounds, fountains and a swimming pool. For beautiful flowers amidst ponds and bridges, you should check out the Victorian-era Halifax Public Gardens, a National Historic Site.

I got to know Halifax when my school teacher mentioned Nova Scotia and Halifax during the secondary school. I knew it is famous for lobster. Other than that, I didn't know much about Halifax. After visiting Halifax, then I learnt two things. The first is Titanic - A ship built by Irish, sunk by British and rescued by Canadian in Halifax. The second is the collision and caused huge explosion in 1917 that destroyed the whole city.

Didn't appreciate getting over charged twice.

10 March 2025

Didn't appreciate getting over charged twice.once on my visa debit and again on my BMO.mastercard,the girls were so looking forward to the pool but as I stated they saw what looked to be it's bit and boogers floating around the top of the pool and the smell in the pool area was too much for them they had to leave which was unfortunate that was the highlight of their stay ruined, I also feel for the money that was spent there should have at least been a complimentary breakfast even for the first night so overall my stay was not very well and I will not be returning to your hotel

I've been many times;

5 February 2025

I've been many times; the restaurant selection keeps getting better; wonderful harbor views altho the massive building boom is making it harder and harder to see the views unless you walk to the bay or view over the bridge or Dartmouth side. Great public gardens, wonderful mix of older and new architecture; vibrant artist community. The downside is how pricey renting and hotels have become. And winter is a mess--the sleet, ice snow, and rain on those inclined streets make for very challenging walking & driving. Not for the weary. So go the other 3 seasons instead.

So many places to see and so many things you can do.

30 January 2025

So many places to see and so many things you can do. Transportation should never be an issue. Bussing is right outside your door. Visit dartmouth with a ferry ride. Book a tour and visit cape Breton Island or Peggy's cove. The food downtown is amazing, casino is just thru the pedways of scotia Square.

If you purpose is to visit Halifax, The Inn may not be the right location, Be aware, it's on the Dartmouth side of the Harbour, so you will need to cross the MacDonald Bridge, approx. 20 mins away or use the Metro Ferry 10 Mins away. The total commute would take about 30 mins, non-rush-hour. But if you are attending CFB Shearwater or Eastern Passage area this is perfect. The Inn is located next to Fisherman's Wharf and that is major highlight. But that's more for the warm weather months.
