Konstanz is situated in the south-western corner of Germany, right where the Rhine River meets Lake Constance. Naturally, it offers beautiful landscapes that include the Swiss Alps, old lakeside villages and green hills. Beyond its gorgeous sceneries, it is also known for the notable University of Konstanz that welcomes thousands of students, giving the city its young vibe.
When planning a trip to Konstanz, set some time aside to stroll along the winding streets of the Old Town, where you’ll get to spot historical buildings that elegantly line your path. Visit Konstanz Münster – an ancient cathedral – and climb the 193 steps of its tower to get sweeping views of this neighbourhood. You can also see the rustic Town Hall (Rathaus) and stop by one of the quaint eateries and wine caves.
The centrepiece of the city is Lake Constance, offering not just picturesque waterfront vistas but also plenty of activities. You can set out on a relaxing bike ride along the shore of the lake or engage in water sports like windsurfing, paddleboarding and diving. Another enjoyable experience is hiking through the SeeGang trail that will surround you with captivating backdrops.

Konstanz is an absolute gem nestled on the shores of Lake Constance. The charming old town is a delightful blend of medieval architecture, vibrant squares, and cozy cafes. Walking along the lake promenade, you’re treated to stunning views of the Alps and the sparkling water. The iconic Imperia statue at the harbor adds a touch of whimsy. Konstanz feels peaceful yet lively, with friendly locals and a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're exploring history, enjoying nature, or just unwinding, Konstanz is a perfect getaway destination.

Pretty lakeside town with a youth and family orientation. Nice buildings and easy to walk around. Many restaurants to choose from and ferry service to and from several other places on the lake. There are many bike routes and lots of cyclists

Great location for exploring by train and boat - town is just busy enough to have lots of places to eat and explore but not so much that it felt congested or overwhelming. We loved the area and look forward to returning.

As my ancestors were residents of Konstanz I have visited a few times. It is still a beautiful city. However it is becoming very busy, which brings it's problems. Noticeably it is unclean in places and the soul of the place is being lost.

Great historical place located in the extraordinary beautiful lake of Bodensee. Historical reminiscenses related to the Bohemian past - related to priests John Hus nad Hieronymus from Prague, both sentenced to cruel death because of their Christian faith.
Konstanz is a fabulous place to visit.
16 February 2024
Konstanz is a fabulous place to visit. Ferries seem to be crossing the lake even in winter, there are thermal baths (Thermen) with views of the foothills of the Alps, the old town is beautiful, and you can walk along the lakefront. Snowy times must be beautiful here - I've see fabulous pictures of this (and the Christmas market has been recommended to me). Just before Lent there is the fantastic Fastnacht festival, which is a wonderful family occasion, including the Saturday morning children's parade (and gathering on the Markstatte), which is less crowded than the Sunday one (one tip for the larger Sunday event is to walk to the start of the parade area where it is less crowded and where little ones can see better). In summer there is swimming in the lake, a large open-air swimming pool with slides, right beside the thermal baths, the floral peninsula of Mainau, the wonderful Reichenau pensinsula with its monastery and walks, and trips to local sights by train and ferry. Cycling is easy, and there are city bikes (and in February 2024 also scooters).
