About Puerto de la Cruz

Including tips for the best time to visit Puerto de la Cruz

Located on the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz is home to beautiful beaches filled with black volcanic sands. Head to Playa Jardin beach, the oldest resort on the island to find entry points for Atlantic water sports. Elsewhere, Martianez Beach is known for its famous outdoor swimming pool, while the beach itself is popular with amateur surfers. At the outdoor pool, you’ll find sea-water pools and resort-style restaurants suited to families looking for a relaxing day spent in the sun.

During your time in Spain’s Puerto de la Cruz, you’ll find many famous landmarks away from its volcanic beaches. Book a segway tour across the city to gain an insight into the history of the region and visit the medieval Church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia and the ancient stone castle of Castillo San Felipe. Alternatively, explore the city on foot to visit the penguins at Loro Parque Zoo or put on your hiking boots and journey through the picturesque hiking trails and waterfalls of the Parque Taoro. Here, you’ll be able to admire views of the Paseo de Colon and Mirador La Paz before ending your day spent in one of the many restaurants located in Plaza de Europa.

My third time at this accommodation and it I can’t speak highly enough. This modern studio is perfectly situated in front of the pier with a great sea view. It’s immaculately clean and has everything you need. This is my top choice for a week in Puerto.

I was pleasantly surprised.

March 28, 2025

I was pleasantly surprised. The city is beautiful, with well-developed infrastructure, including public transport (Titsa buses). However, there is no information about buses at bus stops, no numbers, no timetable, only a scannable QR code. What to do if your mobile phone is dead? I didn’t see any sockets for charging. I rarely use taxi services, but my little experience was excellent - the price of the trip was calculated fairly.

I really enjoyed visiting outside of the town, the further up the mountain you go to places like La Orotava, the more beautiful the landscape becomes. The town can be a bit busy, especially towards the more built-up area near the public pool/water park, but in the old town it can be calm and pleasant, with lots of lovely places to eat and drink. I recommend Tasca Ihuey for a beautiful meal made from local ingredients.

Such a lovely place to visit.

March 20, 2025

Such a lovely place to visit. So much to see, beautiful buildings, street art and lots of cobbled side streets to explore and many restaurants. Loro Parque is a must to visit, a free road trains takes you through the town which gives you another view of the town. We did not need a car from our apartment we could walk everywhere.

We loved the botanic gardens and the orchid gardens.

We loved the botanic gardens and the orchid gardens. Plenty of places to eat out including a brilliant Italian restaurant and many others. Easy to walk around the main city but many outings involved a hill climb to get home. There are some good coach trips to book.

I like Puerto and the old town is lovely.

March 8, 2025

I like Puerto and the old town is lovely. Good walks along the coast. Lots of restaurants and bars - from those that are very touristy and quite loud, to much quieter ones, so something to suit all tastes. It’s also easy to travel to other parts of the island, and I really like the mountainous parts of the north coast. There are a lot of lovely towns in easy reach.
