Salamanca City Centre
In downtown
The centre of Salamanca is remarkably engrossing, with Baroque churches, Neoclassical university buildings, shopping streets and charming plazas, and the sound of church bells never too far away. Shop like a local at Calle Torro and Zamora, munch on a churro from La Tahona de la Abuela near Casa de las Conchas Square, or eat tapas along Gran Via.

Spread across several rolling hills by the Tormes river, Salamanca is a charming and quaint Spanish city. The capital of the Province of Salamanca boasts an impressive academic history and is packed with architectural delights and natural landscapes perfect for an enchanting getaway.
There are many gorgeous buildings dotted across Salamanca, and the Plaza Mayor is the crowning jewel of them all. Located in the UNESCO-listed Old City, it’s widely regarded as one of Spain’s most beautiful plazas. The baroque architecture is a sight to behold, while the golden glow from its sandstone adds to the ambiance of those long Spanish nights. The square’s bustling restaurants, jewelry shops and ice cream parlours offer the perfect pit-stop, too.
Salamanca is filled with plenty of historical monuments. Founded in 1218, the University of Salamanca is one of the world’s oldest academic institutions. The building itself is a visual feast, while the library inside keeps thousands of ancient manuscripts safe. There’s also the Roman bridge of Salamanca, which has spanned the Tormes river for about two thousand years. This rustic relic features 26 arches and stands proud as a testament to Salamanca's heritage.
Outside Salamanca is a lush Spanish landscape just waiting to be discovered. Check out Arribes del Duero Natural Park, a vast region that features one of Europe’s largest inland lakes. The whole area is filled with rolling green sceneries, and its mountains even help to produce some of Spain’s world-famous wine.

It is easy to get around in Salamanca if your apartment/hotel is in the centre like ours was. We walked everywhere. We loved the market, Plaza Mayor, cathedrals, Museum of Automotivo History, Casa Lis - Museo Art Nouveau y Art Deco (it was a pity you cannot take photos inside and they do not sell postcards with the artefacts we could see there), the Oeste neighbourhood with the murals ( we spent 3 hours there but could another 2-3), the Roman Bridge and of course every beautiful yellow building .

The interesting and beautiful buildings and parks are a sight to behold. The energy of a city full of intelligent youths. The absolute cleanliness of the City. No litter anywhere and little graffiti. Even the students seemed bereft of tattoos.

A characterful city with many beautiful old buildings, including an impressive cathedral and an ancient and distinguished university. There is an impressive central square with many open air cafes around the perimeter.

Obviously Salamanca is world-renowned for having one of the oldest universities in the world but the architecture and numerous ancient buildings are breathtaking. Not only is the city classy but the inhabitants are also extremely kind, helpful and classy. I can’t recommend the city highly enough
Beautiful City.

Beautiful City. A lot of places to visit. Cathedrals, University, Museums, and etc. If you love cultural activity, Salamanca is the must of place. The food is good, we love Spanish ham and there are a lot of good restaurants!
Salamanca old town was great.

Salamanca old town was great. I would have seen more but the exceptionally cold weather in March was very limiting. I recommend 'La Marqvesa Brava' - a very modern tapas bar that does all the old things very well - Rammed every day! Exceptional Cathedral.
