Dijon is one of France’s most enchanting cities. The Burgundy capital’s elegant buildings pull visitors into a medieval past, while its surrounding vineyards draw revellers out for the finest of wines. There’s also the fantastic cuisine, praised and celebrated by all who visit this spirited city.
Dijon is packed with stunning examples of historical architecture, many of which can be found in the UNESCO-listed city centre. The Church of Notre-Dame of Dijon is an absolute must-see. Considered a masterpiece of 13th-century Gothic architecture, it’s adorned with 51 gargoyles that stand guard over their breathtaking fortress. There’s also the Dijon Cathedral, where visitors can spot the city’s iconic rooftop feature – colourful tiles arranged in eye-catching geometric patterns.
Dijon’s cuisine ranks as one of France’s finest and is celebrated each November at the two-week International Gastronomy Fair. If you’re visiting during the autumn you’ll be able to sample the best of Burgundy’s foods, from the iconic Dijon mustard to the region’s famed gingerbread.
Burgundy is a world-famous wine growing region, and notable vineyards such as Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin are only 20 minutes from Dijon. Back in the city centre, a variety of wine bars including L’Assommoir Tome II and Dr Wine offer the perfect chance to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.

Well placed for an overnight pit stop en-route to Calais.

Well placed for an overnight pit stop en-route to Calais. Room was clean and tidy, with a good breakfast to start the day off. The only negative was lack of 24/7 telephone support when called, as we had not been sent entry key code

We just happened to break a 14 hour drive at this location for a much needed nights rest. We decided to have breakfast in the town center as we have passed Dijon 20 times without taking the time to enter the town. We have lived in France for 6 years, and Dijon took us by surprise. What a lovely town! Worth a visit, even if it’s just for a morning or afternoon.

The beautiful historical city with amazing and impressive buildings. Our favourite dinner was in a tiny restaurant called Le Ptit Bouchon. Lovely atmosphere and charming owner/chef. He was very funny. We had a hilarious time.

This city is a hidden gem. The cleanliness of the city and the variety/quality of shops in the city is truly amazing! There are so many historic buildings to visit and everything is so impressive. Go before it gets overrun with tourist buses 🚌

It's a lovely city, I visited Dijon 12 years ago. It is now very different, modern and very nice. I chose the city as a stop-over before continuing to the French Alps. I would like to visit Dijon again in the summer months to stay a bit longer to visit the museums and markets.
Dijon is lovely.
