With origins dating back to the Roman period, it wasn’t until the 19th century that the Italian city of Riccione established itself as a holiday retreat for members of the Bolognese aristocracy. Since the 1960s, the city has gained a prestigious reputation as the Adriatic Riviera’s prime holiday destination, often frequented by famous stars drawn to the beaches, nightlife and exclusive resort culture.
Depending on what you're looking for, there’s many beaches and water parks across Riccione. The recently refurbished Playa del Sol beach is the most central resort and features parasols and relaxed swimming opportunities. Elsewhere, Women’s Beach and Flamingo Beach are home to a selection of water sports while suited to evenings spent with some takeaway food watching a beautiful sunset over the Adriatic Sea. Alternatively, the city’s water parks should not be overlooked, with Aquafan, Beach Village and Extreme River being the most popular with families looking for a fun day out.
Although Riccione offers its own airport, more accessible flights are available direct to the likes of Pisa and nearby Bologna. Many tourists choose to take the short bus journey from Bologna to soak up views of the Italian countryside. However, once inside the city, Riccione offers public transport and plenty of holiday hospitality within walking distance of most accommodations.

Riccione is very nice overall.

Riccione is very nice overall. Somewhat expensive for certain parts compared to other european resorts but easy enough to get around when you are there. It took us a while to figure the town out as we'd arrived from Bologna which is typical city whereas Riccione is a sleepier resort and runs very differently to a lot of places I have been previously. Once we'd got the hang of it (and the good weather started to come) we realised we could have done with a few extra days to finally relax lol. The beach is nice as is the promenade for a walk and getting the steps in to work off the pasta... Usual tourist type shops and not too many chain stores which was refreshing to be honest. Most places prefer cash which again, very refreshing. Huge selection of restaurants and eateries. Seemed to have a tight knit community as well. Getting to it from major airports is a tad tricky as it isn't well connected by public transport and the services that do run are not regular. Especially if the major train services are cancelled (which they frequently were during our stay across Bologna and Riccione) and sadly on our return day, we arrived at the train station to find our train had been cancelled so we had no other choice but to get a cab and found ourselves with a 300 euro cab ride for a journey that by rights should have cost max 150 euros. We felt a little ripped off with their taxis in riccione in general and after speaking with other travellers we discovered that it is just their way because there are not so many so they can set the prices high. So we weren't personally ripped off but the system is.

Good selection of shops and restaurants on mostly pedestrianised streets. Food was generally very good but quite expensive. Lots of people out in the evenings enjoying a stroll. Generally felt very safe to walk about. Station and metro are a short walk from the centre if you wish to travel further afield.
Perfect beach town.

Perfect beach town. Plenty of shops and restaurants on the main street behind the hotels, but the design of the town emphasizes the beach, gardens, pedestrian and bike paths between the hotels and the water. No clutter or shops near the beach. We ate every meal at the hotel, since the food was so good. We didn't bother getting around the town, except for a brief shopping trip on foot. Good shops, high quality goods. Our favorite spot was right where we were: in the hotel just yards from the beach and on the beach. Really perfect except for the loud, amplified radio and music.

Location was excellent a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Small supermarket 2 minutes walk. Very clean and exceptionally well designed appartment with a great coffee machine, fridge , microwave and dishwasher. The host Roberto met us with the keys when we arrived. Roberto could not have been more helpful and accommodating during our stay! I would highly recommend staying here and we will book again without hesitation next time we visit Riccione! Great experience 😃

I have always liked this place and we stay in Riccione quite often. I like the sea, the big beach alley. If possible, we stay for more days, take bikes from the hotel and go around the city. Favorit pizza restaurant Alba.

Lovely restaurants and great shopping, however it felt a little too industrial for our taste. The exclusively private beaches which results in a beach strip with 30 rows of sun loungers all across the beach takes a little bit away from the beauty. And as with any "tourist traps" be aware of pickpockets. More than once when i left my partner behind at the hotel to do some shopping alone, i was being followed by some pickpockets until i engaged in direct eye contact.
