As the only coastal city in Jordan, Aqaba is a base for jumping into the Red Sea. On the other side of the city you can venture into the rocky landscape of the Wadi Rum, while ancient ruins and breathtaking mosques fill the city centre with elements of a proud Islamic culture and Middle Eastern history.
Only 10 minutes from downtown Aqaba is the free public beach of Al-Hafayer, also known as Palm Beach. Lined with gorgeous palm trees, it’s the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset over the Red Sea. Aqaba is also the gateway to the Wadi Rum, a valley of sandstone and granite with a mystical quality that has drawn people to it for centuries. Also known as the Valley of the Moon, this natural landscape of rock formations has been orchestrated by weather and erosion across the millenia.
Aqaba is packed with significant monuments that tell stories of the city’s exciting culture and history. A definite highlight is the 16th-century Mamluk Castle, where a famous World War I battle played out that led to a victory for the Arab Revolt. Be sure to check out the Aqaba Archaeological Museum just opposite the castle too. It’s home to a vast collection of Bronze Age artefacts and gives the best introduction to the region.

Aqaba is a friendly city, excellent facilities, historical and modern. People are friendly, taxis are abundant, Ayla resort definitely worth visiting and Ayla golf course. So many restaurants, many different food styles, service is great, but do not think it will be cheap, but a great place to visit especially if you have been working in KSA for months.

Aqaba is not as fancy as Eilat, it's neighbour. However it affords splendid views over the Sinai mountains, has glorious sunsets & a host of good seafood restaurant. Wadi Rum & Petra are easily reached, but a day trip will be too much, so a night at a bedouin camp is suggested. Local taxis are metered & cheap. The small fleet of glass bottom boats was a bonus.

Great vibe in the city, with people and music in the streets all hours of day and night. A day-pass for a beach club is your ticket to a heated pool, on-site restaurant and other activities. Be careful of taxi drivers who offer to help you with anything you need; all inquiries about prices for trips are waved away with 'no problem', (while they suspend all activities of their actual job to be 'at your service'.) At the end of your stay, they will try to guilt you into paying for their time as if they were tour guides - for transporting you to the odd restaurant or beach club.

Aqaba is a great vacation location almost everyplace you want to go to requires entrance fee and it is very hard to find a beach that is nice with shaded areas and places to site without paying an entrance fee and lots of shops do not accept credit cards so it’s always good to go with cash and options to withdraw cash
Jordan is a wonderful country!

Jordan is a wonderful country! I stayed in Aqaba just for scuba diving. The city itself is not particularly interesting and if I was not diving, I wouldn't spend more than 1-2 days there. There are far more interesting places to visit in Jordan., like Petra, the Wadi Rum, Madaba, Jerash, Umm Qais and the Dead Sea. The beach is OK, if you go to a private beach with a better infrastructure. I would recommend Berenice Beach, where you pay 13 JOD and can stay the whole day, with beach, nice pool, showers and restaurants and water sports at an extra price. The public beaches are not so clean and don't have nice facilities.
Beautiful water and diving.

Beautiful water and diving. Nice coastal town with lots of dining options. Great diving opportunities for novice and licensed divers. Aqaba Leaders Dive Center provided an AMAZING dive experience for me as a novice un-licensed diver. You can see so much incredible coral, fish, etc. in the clear Red Sea water. Check out Aqaba Leaders Dive Center for group or individual dives. It was the highlight of my visit to Aqaba!
