We had a very pleasant stay at One Shot Puerta Ruzafa. The location is excellent — close to Xàtiva metro, Ruzafa, Calle Colón, restaurants, cafés and shops — and it made exploring Valencia very easy. The hotel is modern, clean and comfortable, with helpful staff and a relaxed atmosphere. We also used Valenbisi, the city bike system, a lot during our stay, and the hotel’s location was very convenient for reaching Turia Gardens, the old town, the beach and other parts of the city. Overall, it was a great base for a city break and we would gladly stay here again.

Valencia FAQs: Tips for every trip

All trips

What's Valencia best known for?

Recognised as the birthplace of paella, Valencia features the modern architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences. Travellers can walk through Turia Park, a public garden built inside a repurposed riverbed, or explore the 15th-century Silk Exchange and Gothic cathedrals in the Old Town.

How many days should I stay?

A three to four-day stay gives you enough time to explore the main sights in Valencia. You can divide your itinerary between the historic centre, the architectural complex at the City of Arts and Sciences, the Turia gardens, and the coast for traditional paella.

What's the best area to stay?

Choose Ciutat Vella to stay within walking distance of landmarks like the Central Market. Ruzafa provides a wide selection of restaurants and cafes. For direct beach access, book accommodation in Poblats Marítims, or select Quatre Carreres to be near the City of Arts and Sciences.

First visit

What are the best things to do in Valencia?

Start at the City of Arts and Sciences, then walk through the Turia Gardens. Navigate the historic centre to see the Gothic architecture of Valencia Cathedral and browse the Central Market. Complete your trip by eating traditional paella at a local restaurant.

Where should I stay on my first trip?

Base yourself in Ciutat Vella to be within walking distance of major historical landmarks like Valencia Cathedral and the Central Market. This central neighbourhood provides immediate access to public transport, making it straightforward to reach the coast and the City of Arts and Sciences.

What’s the easiest way to explore in Valencia?

Walking is a practical way to navigate Valencia's historic centre. For distances further out, such as the City of Arts and Sciences or the beach, use the public metro and tram network. Renting a bicycle to ride through the Turia gardens provides a direct route.

Family stays

Where should I stay with children?

Staying near the Turia Gardens provides families visiting Valencia with immediate access to traffic-free walking paths and large green spaces. Booking a hotel in the Quatre Carreres district places you within walking distance of the aquarium and science museum, reducing your reliance on public transport.

What’s the best thing to do in Valencia with children?

Visit the City of Arts and Sciences to explore interactive exhibits and the large indoor aquarium. Families can hire bicycles to navigate the flat, car-free paths of Turia Gardens, a continuous park spanning the city. Malvarrosa beach offers wide shorelines and shallow waters for swimming.

What’s the best way to get around with a family?

Use the local metro and public buses to travel between the historic centre and coastal areas with children. The city terrain is flat and paved, providing smooth routes for pushchairs. For shorter trips, family-sized taxis and bicycle rentals are widely available near most hotels.

Romantic trips

What’s the most romantic thing to do in Valencia?

Couples can walk through the Turia Gardens to the City of Arts and Sciences. You can book a private boat ride on Albufera lake or share a traditional Valencian paella by the coast. Finish the day navigating the historic centre of Barrio del Carmen.

What’s the best way to explore in Valencia?

Couples visiting Valencia can navigate the flat city centre on foot or by hiring bicycles to ride through the Turia Gardens. To reach the coast from central hotels, the local metro and tram networks provide direct and reliable routes across the city.

Where should I stay for a romantic getaway?

Look for accommodation in Ruzafa for proximity to evening entertainment and independent cafes. Ciutat Vella puts you within walking distance of historic architecture and central dining venues. If you plan to spend time by the water, El Cabanyal provides direct access to the coast.

Work trips

Where's the most convenient place to stay for work?

Corporate guests attending conferences often choose hotels in the Campanar district near the Palacio de Congresos. The Benimàmet neighbourhood provides convenient access to the Feria Valencia exhibition centre. For seamless travel across Spain, the Extramurs area positions you next to the Joaquín Sorolla railway station.

What can I do in Valencia between meetings?

After attending events at Feria Valencia, walk or run along the nine-kilometre Turia Gardens. You can also view the contemporary architecture at the City of Arts and Sciences. For client dinners and evening networking, the Ruzafa neighbourhood serves traditional Valencian rice dishes.

How should I get around in Valencia?

Valencia’s metro system connects the airport directly to the city centre and main conference venues. To navigate between business meetings, professionals can use the municipal bus network or local taxi ranks. Ride-sharing apps and private transfers provide door-to-door corporate transport options.

A Walk Through History

As the city that brought paella to the world, Valencia is a culinary delight. Don't miss out on sipping fresh, local orange juice or enjoying tasty tapas in a sidewalk café.

Wandering this relaxed city is like taking a walk through history. From the Roman remains in the archaeological museum to the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, the architecture ranges from the dramatic to the sublime. A mix of styles from the outside, medieval Valencia Cathedral comes into its own inside. The gilt carvings and vibrantly-painted dome are a sight to behold.

The greatest triumph of city planning is the Turia River Park. Created on the bed of a redirected river, it provides much-needed shade in a city with an impressive sunshine record. Of course, you can always cool down on the fantastic beaches, lapped by warm Mediterranean waters.

Former hosts of the European Grand Prix, Valencians take their sport seriously and so they should. Try to take in a match at the 75,000-seater Valencia FC stadium to experience the electric atmosphere.

As Spain’s 3rd largest city, Valencia has wild nightlife, so if that’s your cup of tea, city center hostels are a great choice. Alternatively, Booking.com also has guesthouses, central apartments and even hotels near Valencia Airport.

What Guests Said About Valencia:

Clean and friendly city!

Clean and friendly city! Comfortable and safe to walk around even late at night. Good food. We stayed central and had the buzz of the city cosmopolitan lifestyle and cafe culture was supremely attractive that we benefitted from and enjoyed. Recommend staying in the centre with the olde world street and centuries of history. Unbeknown to us the cathedral is home to the Holy Grail/Challice that we saw too. Aquarium - worth a visit.

Valencia has much to offer!

Valencia has much to offer! We visited many of the neighborhoods and each had great restaurants, shops and historical sites to see. We went on a food/history tour so we had a variety of food such as horchata and fartons, meat, fried eggplant with a sweet sauce, friend cod, grilled artichokes, mussels, calamari of course Iberian ham (it was delicious but very salty) and churros and chocolate. The vermut is the best in the world and we drank it everywhere we went. Valencia is a very walkable city. Don't miss seeing the Holy Grail at the cathedral, San Nicholas church, the Silk Exchange, the mercado, the Arts and Science area with the Jules Verne inspired Arts and Science area. Some people have recommended seeing the colorful homes and boats at Port Saplaya but it's looking old and there are very few restaurants, although it was nice to see the beach. We also took a very informative Arts and Architecture tour that took us to many of the same places as the food tour, but it included entry to the cathedral, Silk Exchange and San Nicholas church. Great city to include in your itinerary! Note: we just missed the pageantry of the King Jaume I's festival on October 9th. There were many parades and fireworks for numerous nights. Plan to be there for either this or the Falles Festival in the spring.

Valencia is a wonderful city with friendly people, beautiful...

Valencia is a wonderful city with friendly people, beautiful historic landmarks and a lovely Mediterranean atmosphere. We enjoyed the beaches, affordable seafood and great restaurants. I have visited twice this year and would love to return. The City of Arts and Sciences is an absolute must-see: its futuristic architecture looks like something from another planet. Explore the historic centre, with its narrow streets full of southern charm, and visit the Central Market for an incredible variety of local treats. Walk through the Turia Gardens, a beautiful park laid out in the former riverbed, and make time for Port Saplaya, often called “Valencia’s Venice”. For breakfast by the seafront, I recommend [this spot](https://maps.app.goo.gl/sUeMuuBG3M1vTW6Q6?g_st=iw) or [this one](https://maps.app.goo.gl/PEsACzX6yjLSVpry7?g_st=iw). My recommendation for paella is [La Pepica](https://share.google/5YzbIazITYPfuZBej), and for seafood, [this restaurant](https://maps.app.goo.gl/GMfFT6mMR9dxBNPS9). Learning some Spanish before your trip will help, as staff in some restaurants do not speak other languages. Unfortunately, in a few places we felt taken advantage of over food and portion sizes because we did not speak Spanish. This was disappointing, but it did not spoil our overall impression. Public transport is excellent, with air-conditioned buses, trams and metro trains that are comfortable even in the heat. If you plan to use it regularly, buy a travel card and load it with 10 or 20 journeys. During our stay, this worked out at €0.61 per journey, compared with €2 for a single ticket or paying directly by bank card. Bring comfortable, lightweight trainers: we walked up to 20 kilometres a day, so your feet will thank you! I would definitely recommend visiting Valencia.

Two days would be enough for Valencia if you are not going inside the museums, etc. I came from Paris before coming here so it was a letdown- the chruches , buildings, streets etc are so plain and bare. The food in the Mercat was good though.

Fabulous city, with something for everyone: culture, food, sightseeing, transport, ambience and shopping -- all excellent. And fairly-priced, too. I'm kicking myself for discovering it so late in life. Special bonus for mobility-impaired travellers: Valencia is a wheelchair user's paradise -- on a par with or exceeding London for accessibility.

We enjoyed our stay in the hotel a lot. This is a hotel which truly deserves the name ‘boutique hotel’. Very nice interior, small but very nice, staff is very friendly and extremely engaged and committed to make our stay very special. The breakfast was really nice, food very good and the orange juice phenomenal. We also had dinner there once and also enjoyed the food and the cocktails. If we come back to Valencia, we would stay again here. Location is great in the middle of old town.

As we were a school group all the rooms were on the same floor so it was easy to manage. The hotel staff didn't complain about our noise either. The staff put extra beds in rooms to accommodate us. They were ery helpful. Rooms were cheapish, basic but clean. Hotel is around a 20 minute walk to the centre. 10 minutes from metro to airport.
