The Riviera Hotel & Apartments - Alum Chine, hotel in Bournemouth

The Riviera Hotel has a peaceful location, looking out over the trees of Alum Chine to the bay. With free Wi-Fi and free parking, leisure facilities include a hot tub and indoor pool.

The hotel is clean, it's dog-friendly, the staff are very welcoming & helpful & the facilities are fabulous! The mattress in our room was superb - very firm & no risk of leaving with backache! Lots of things to do if all you want to do is hang out at the hotel - there's a pool & spa, along with lots of games tables - table tennis & football, a pool table, etc. There was even some live musical entertainment in the Bridge bar area on one of the evenings we were there. The hotel is also perfectly located for a walk in Alum Chine & a walk along the beach. You can even walk along the beachfont to Sandbanks if you're keen! We loved it!

FAQs about hotels in Bournemouth

Sea Air and Savoir-Faire

Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.

The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.

Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.

At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.

On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

Bournemouth has changed in the last 4 years, rubbish is a big problem and the smell of cigarettes and other is everywhere, especially in the summertime there are no restrictions and nobody to control the beach and make sure no rubbish is left behind. Young people should start to respect the environment unless leave bottles and tank of beer and boxes of food everywhere

We were visiting Bournemouth to drop our son off for his third year at university there, in that respect it was not a holiday as such. We took a visit to Christchurch using the train which was easy to use. We found more independent cafes and shops in Christchurch than in Bournemouth. The beachside walk from Bournemouth to Boscombe is pleasant.

Really do enjoy going to Bournemouth although I have found that it is becoming a little bit rougher there over the last year or so with a lot of beggars hassling you and the over powering smell of weed everywhere and the gangs of young men hanging around in the gardens

Living locally on the Isle of Wight a trip to Bournemouth is not much hassle for us but I've noticed a huge difference in the safety aspect of the centre and the appearance of the main shopping streets where graffiti and boarded up shops and general cleanliness is very very sad to see and not what you would expect . The airshow was a disappointment this year echoed by many people and the facilities where there but sadly it lacked something and certainly didn't feel safe or family friendly. Disappointed if I'm honest at the downturn in the appearance of the centre and homeless on the streets , not a safe place in my opinion , sorry Bournemouth !!!!!

The apartment was perfect for my elderly parents and myself, and excellent value compared to a hotel. Although situated on the 2nd floor there is a lift which was ideal. Communication from our host, Andrew, was brilliant and very helpful especially for check in. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean. Location was great, being so close to the beach and the centre of Bournemouth and it was so convenient having our own parking space. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you Andrew.

Easily the best hotel that I have stayed in when I visit Bournemouth and I've stayed in quite a few different hotels over the last few months. Great value for money, large rooms, really comfortable beds and facilities. A five minute walk from the town centre and the beach. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. We had an amazing time staying at Debbie’s and Peter’s place. The two were so welcoming and warm we felt at ease right away, they even accommodated our changed arrival time. The location of the hotel is great, it’s a very short walk to the beach and everything is very clean and neat. We will definitely be back when we come back to Bournemouth.
