Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.
Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.
The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.
Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.
Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I liked being outside teh city centre - with Oxford you need to be right in the city (often expensive) or right out. In summer the tourist crowds can be oppressive outside teh colleges, so it's nice to hve a peaceful place to come back to.

It is a very beautiful, intricate and fascinating place with wonderful museums and a wide range of events and activities every day and evening. The local people are very hospitable, kind and accommodating. So many people were happy to help me and give me advice or just have a conversation with a visitor.

Beautiful city. Calm and relaxed.
Beautiful city. Calm and relaxed. People are courteous and polite. Loved the slow life. City centre doesn’t have many attractions so one can take the 2 hr. Walking tour. Many great places to eat . And all under one roof Westgate shopping centre too.

Lovely place to visit.
Lovely place to visit. I went as my family grew up in Oxford and I have never been before. Drove from Oxford to Fritwell, then onto Bicester. Lovely little trip. The city centre was beautiful, so much to do in the short time I was there.

The hotel is very unique.
The hotel is very unique. We stayed in one of the cell rooms which added to the experience. I think if you didn’t stay in one of the cell rooms, it would feel like staying in any other nice hotel. Just bare in mind that the cell rooms do not have a window that you can look out of, only a little window near the ceiling, it is literally 2-3 old Victorian prison cells converted into one room, so you wouldn’t expect there to be a window to look out of. The cell room feels very spacious and very nicely converted, with a prison vibe going on. If you are driving to the hotel, to avoid disappointment, make sure you reserve parking. Parking is VERY limited.
We had an evening meal in the hotel, which was excellent, a little over priced maybe? So I was expecting an excellent breakfast, but sadly not. I had full English and my breakfast was warm, not hot. Found the bacon and potato croquettes quite rubbery. I felt my breakfast was probably cooked an hour ago and was kept under one of them warming lights. Even if my breakfast was freshly cooked, I still think for breakfast it was extremely over priced.
Over all the hotel was superb and is in a fantastic location, centre of Oxford. Everything you want to see and do in Oxford is all within walking distance.
I would gladly recommend this hotel.

Unfortunately, only spent a few hours walking around the old historic parts of Oxford. There's plenty of beautiful sandstone buildings and sights to see. Many places charge an entrance fee though but still enjoyed just wandering around looking at the architecture and down to the river was very pleasant. Definitely, will read up and research more on the history and places to see for a return visit to Oxford. Good bus service to the city centre.
The hotel was exceptional some would say old fashioned service. Staff friendly and courteous very helpful . The room and the whole of the hotel immaculate. The food was also well cooked , well presented and the staff could not have been more helpful, going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we wanted.
The hotel is easy to find with parking right outside.
The hotel is situated 15 minutes walk from the centre of Oxford. We will return and will without doubt stay at the Cotswold Lodge.
The hotel was exactly as advertised. Having never been to Oxford, I had earmarked this hotel years ago as somewhere to stay when I visited, so I had high expectations. We ate downstairs in the bar/ restaurant and were delighted with quality and quantity of food for price… interactions with all staff was also excellent.
The large roll top bath for two was a highlight. Indeed, we even got up early to bathe with our Nespresso coffees! A wonderful stay, thank you.
Comfortable hotel in a quiet location on the edge of Oxford. Easy walk into the city centre takes about 25 mins on £2 on the bus. Our room was clean and quiet with plenty of hot water and a coffee maker. We didn't have time to use the restaurant or bar but the common areas looked good. Staff were friendly and helpful -- especially Claudia who seemed to be working all weekend but carried on smiling!
Very comfortable small hotel, with friendly helpful staff. Excellent English breakfast within a wonderful glass conservatory. A range of good shops and restaurants in nearby Summertown centre (1 minute walk). Hotel sits next to a bus stop offering high frequency local bus services to/from Oxford city centre and other suburbs. Very happy with this hotel and will stay there again when in Oxford.
I recently stayed for two nights at a lovely hotel in Oxford while on a work trip. As a solo traveler, the comfort of the room and the welcoming staff made a great impression on me. The dinner offerings were exceptional and beautifully presented. I would certainly consider returning to this hotel for both accommodation and dining if I find myself back in the area.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially during breakfast. The room was good size and clean; had everything we needed (e.g. iron) without asking room service. Hotel décor is nice. Gym has modern equipment. Oxford city centre is within walking distance. Nearby there is a Thames path and a horse field, which set the hotel in a beautiful surrounding.
Fabulous little hotel ideally located for exploring Oxford. Blenheim Palace a short car ride away as is the Pear tree Park and ride which (in 2023) cost only £5 for 2 of us to park & bus into the city centre.
Lovely friendly staff and a very delicious breakfast. Free parking on site was a great bonus. Would stay again and recommend :)
Hotel location was very good and easy access to the Oxford city centre by public transport. The parking was limited however we were able to use 24 hour public car parking. Easy to access anytime. There are some cafes and restaurants around and has very independent feel. Great locals!
The room is surprisingly big. It is comfortable. The bathroom is small, but clean. The best side of the hotel is its location - in the quiet streets of Jericho and 10 minutes walk from Broad street, but also from Port Meadow. For the steep Oxford prices, it is a good deal.
During the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations - we had a fantastic stay in Hotel Holiday Inn. We travelled to Oxford City centre by S3 (Stagecoach Gold Bus) and Park and Ride 300 run by the Oxford Bus Company. There is a waitrose+KFC+Starbucks just next to the hotel.
Great location, easy access to buses into Oxford City centre from outside the hotel.
Hotel was lovely, friendly and efficient staff. Room was clean and well equipped, comfortable bed. Great breakfast, lots of choice.
Will definitely stay again if back in Oxford.
This was bay far the best hotel to stay at for being in the center of Oxford but also in a small, picturesque setting. The hotel has all the facilities you could want, excellent breakfast, rooftop garden seating, nice rooms, it’s expensive but worth it.
I liked that it felt more like a university conference centre (which is what it is) than like a normal hotel. Staff were helpful. Very near Oxford City Centre - not an easy place to find accommodation.
Great Location hotel was excellent right by river Thames lovely grounds also bus stop at the top of the driveway straight into Oxford city centre. All round great stay.
The hotel is in the centre of Oxford, in a quiet side street off from High Street. The place is spotless and very well maintained, the personnel very helpful.
This hotel is in the middle of Oxford, convenient to Saxon ruins and all of the academic colleges. It has an old-school charm and met our needs perfectly.
