FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

People are so friendly and the busy centre is vibrant and varied. The canals make a lovely walking route through the centre making everything easily accessible. We ate at Jimmy Spice, an all you can eat buffet, but the food was of much higher quality than I have experienced at other similar restaurants. We both had a great time!

Birmingham is an easy to navigate city.

Birmingham is an easy to navigate city. Very clean and friendly. I went for a weekend event but arrived a day early and visited the Birmingham museum and gallery with my 10 year old girls which they enjoyed the culture. We also stayed an extra day to check out the think tank science museum which kept them fully engaged all day as it was so hands on. The cafe was great too with different budget options for meals. I hadn't realised Birmingham had so many places to visit nearby. We'll definitely be back for longer with a planned agenda to explore more in the area.

The room was very clean and tidy, bathroom huge and also very clean. Shower was good. Beds comfortable but the pillows looked like they were 100 years old. They were as flat as a pancake, definitely need updating. The lifts were out of order which was a pain to carry all our luggage up to the 3rd floor, no offer of help from the staff unfortunately. Also, this hotel is cashless. So be prepared to have to put everything on your card. You cant charge drinks or snacks to your room either, even though the snack vending machine/fridge in reception states ‘charge to room’ on the side of it. Breakfast was good, lots of choice and quite tasty. I was surprised that breakfast was served until 12.00 on weekends and bank holidays, this was extremely helpful since we had been out to a rave in Birmingham until 3am so definitely could not have got up super early for breakfast! I also liked that you can check out up to 12pm. Most places want to boot you out by 10am, so that was really handy not having to rush in them morning. I would come back again if I were to go to another event in Birmingham.

I’ll be straight up I booked this hotel by mistake by hitting the wrong hotel tag and then without realising I’d made a mistake paid up front because it was cheaper. It wasn’t until after the confirmation came through that I realised my mistake and that I’d booked a hotel behind Snow Hill and I wouldn’t get my moneyback if I tried to change it because I hadn’t made a flexible booking. I then spent the next few months thinking the hotel was at the back end of nowhere and because of the price being so cheap it would be awful. Well, how wrong could you get. The hotel was literally a few minutes from the cathedral and to everywhere you needed to get. It took us around 12 to 15 minutes to be sat having a pint in Brindley square from the hotel, about 12 minutes walking to the beautiful St Pauls square. Ideal for the NIA and all the museums and Art galleries. We opted for the 18th floor and got some fab views across Birmingham and all the other normal facilities you get in a good hotel, including an iron, ironing boad and a hairdryer. The toiletries too were DOVe and not some cheap shampoo and soap. The room was excellent and had air con , Free Wi Fi, massive shower, comfy bed and HD television. The staff were fantastic, friendly and attentive and nothing seemed too much to ask. And to top it all breakfast came included and not just your croissant and fruit juice but sausages, eggs, bacon beans and hash browns, toast and muffins and drinks. I can’t remember the last time we booked in anywhere that was nice and decent where breakfast was included. We came out wondering why we’d never tried Holiday Express Inns before, we will definitely be going back. It was excellent.

If you're outside of center or commercial area the city is dirty. I'd say the problem is with not enough litterboxes or not enough litterbox dumping. Everywhere I went. The litterboxes were either full or non at all. I don't understand how you can make bus stop without a litterbox.

I like everything about this accomodation. The staff is very helpful and super nice. The way he greeted us is amazing. The room is larger than in the photo, you can easily be comfortable with the room. The bathroom is clean, they served us with face towels, body towels, and various amenities. Coffee, tea, and water heater are the perfect match for your stay. Television is working perfectly. The room is tidy and clean. The architecture of this hotel is also wonderful. The location was very near to the city centre, which made it very easy to have frequent trips to the shopping centres. I liked the openness of the reception area, unlike other hotels that are very small. I also liked the fact the it had access to a gym. I think that the overall design of the hotel is very modern, with tall windows from the ground to the ceiling with beautiful views of the city centre. With the upcoming HS2 train station, I think this will be one of the best, if not the best located hotels in Birmingham.

The Hyatt is a gorgeous hotel in a great location to the ICC! I had such a great nights sleep! By far the best beds in any hotel I’ve ever stayed in and while not cheap, this hotel is THE place to stay for anyone off to the ICC. The Spa is also excellent with amazing and by far the best massage I’ve ever had so full credit to Sophia and the team at Amala! I also had a complimentary drink without even asking at the downstairs pub for my food being slightly late and I didn’t even have to ask what amazing service!

The room was perfect on a freezing cold day it was already heated to 27 degrees, it was clean and tidy. The location was great because it was a in a quiet area but with restaurants and bars right above, below and side the hotel. It was very central to Birmingham grand street so it made it easy to walk everywhere, the only problem would have been if you have a car but that would be a problem with all city centre hotels.

The breakfast was fine and plentiful, and no I didn’t walk around the area because I live in Birmingham and know the area better than you do or anyone else in the hotel. There is just something just not right about this hotel! There was a strong smell of marijuana on the first floor and the receptionist also noticed it and said it wasn’t good but nothing was fine about it.
