Look very closely the hotel and room you rent to include the amenities.. I have stayed in over 6 different hotels in the range of $60-$87. It was very difficult to find a good hotel that met my basic needs
1- Ac that works, not fans
2- A good breakfast or at least a place to eat close by
3- Security or lighting when returning at night
4- Clean working bathrooms with hot water and knobs that don't fall off
5- No surprises when checking in or out with surprise fees
When you find one like I have stick to that hotel the next visit or go up in price range

Comfortable weather. Awesome food, beer and coffee.
Comfortable weather. Awesome food, beer and coffee. You can plan your whole trip around the city with Uber, super safe and cheap. Hear the advise of the locals, they know better. Plan for a whole afternoon on "Comuna 13", immerse yourself in the culture, have dinner and do your shopping. Withdraw money on the "BanColombia" ATM's, they have the better rate. Book the Guatapé trip, but make sure that they stop at "Altos del Chocho". Tip your tour guides and waiters, they work for it.

The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing.
The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing. And although the tap water is safe to drink in this city, I would stick to bottled water unless you won't mind the rather poor (and metallic) taste of tap.
One thing to note if you are an obvious foreigner, there are people constantly hounding you and bombarding you while you are walking in the street just to sell you things, get you to dine with them, or simply give you money. This was my least favorite part of the trip. I am a tall white American woman. At certain times of the day/night, I could not walk 10 steps without being approached by street vendors or begging children.

The city if Medellin is a city like no other.
The city if Medellin is a city like no other. You have a mixture of city-like with the immersive of nature. It looks like a city with beauty and nature combined. I suggest taking the metro or cable car. Medellin is similar to NYC but way more eco-friendly!

be careful with taxi's they may run the bill up taking longer routes, UBER works better, but even they try to modify a trip for a greater fare .. You can walk el Pobaldo without any problem .

Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
At the same time, if you are a tourist, how can you resist going there? It has all the high end restaurants, photo ops, boutiques, discos, and it is on fire with energy. Pergamino Coffee shop is fantastic.
The vibe of Lleras might be insulting to your soul though. Its full of scammers, prostitution, drugs, and beggars. Its dehumanizing and it will be hard not to burn through money when you are there.
In contrast Laurelas is more local and friendly. You will get some of the warm Columbian character from waitstaff and local coffee shops. There's a ton of partying in that neighborhood too, but not nearly as sleezy as Lleras Park.
Pablano in general is a tourist trap with high prices and a mediocre return on investment. It does not feel good to be there. Perhaps if I was local in Pablano I would know of all the cool little hang-outs, gyms, and dance classes. Which I am sure are abundant.
If I were to stay in Medellin for a while I would get a hotel in Laurelis and then look for a month-to-month rental in a neighborhood like Candelabra.
Its a relatively safe city for expats and has a great train system. The mountains are unique. If you were a local you could probably live there cheap.
Just stay away from Lleras is my advice.
Pros:
-Very chic, friendly, cheery vibe to the hotel accommodation. I liked the Colombia-centric floor themes!
-Some of the staff members were very friendly, helpful, and knew English
-The pool was nice, the views were great, and the kitchen was well-equipped.
-24-hour security checking for your wristband
-Lots of activities and young tourists to keep you company
-Cool net to lay on on the 2nd floor overlooking the lobby
-Loved the balcony
-Safe, touristy location
Good Hotel. Based on my research, probably the best hotel in the Centro area for the price. The hotel is clean and modern with art as a theme which was cool! The room is comfortable and overall no complaints with this hotel. The staff are professional and attentive. They aren't as warm as other hotel staff at other stays I had in Colombia but no big deal, they are definitely not rude. I would recommend this and I would stay again without hesitation.
Spacious room, comfortable bed. We also used their laundry service, good and fast. They serve amazing breakfast with several options, staff always smiling when bringing your coffee (honestly, those were best hotel breakfast out of our whole stay in Colombia). Location was close to Parque Poblado, supermarket close by, lots of restaurants etc. Staff at reception can help you arrange airport transfer (reasonably priced- comparable with Uber).
The location of Hotel Torre Poblado is perfect. You are right in the center of El Poblado — only 5-10min walk to Parque Lleras and Provenza. The restaurants around the area are also great to try out. ATMs are available in local drug stores and there is a heavy police presence in the area.
Also, you HAVE to check out the view from the 10th floor. This is the area you have breakfast in and trust me, the view is breathtaking.
Very pretty place and super friendly, helpful staff. I initially booked this guest house, I arrived in the early afternoon and heard construction sounds near my room. When I asked for a quieter room they offered to relocate to the nearby luum boutique hotel. It was equally nice, friendly and comfortable, and much quieter. Slept very well and one of the best arepas con huevos I had in Colombia :)
The location is great, right in El Poblado area. It is very close to Parque Lleras and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The property is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. We liked it more than the previous hotel we had stayed at, which was more than double the nightly rate. Breakfast was really good, in fact the best we had in Medellín.
After one month in Colombia this was the second hotel I stayed at with a hot shower and second hotel with shampoo provided. And the hot shower was much better here, and the room was 3 quarters of the price.
Really, really good food, very good prices. Great staff, especially the girl behind reception she is fantastic.
This place is very cool
this is an awesome hotel in a very beautiful area of el poblado in Medellin Colombia.
The staff was very welcoming from the moment you check in. The staff in the dining area accommodated all our requests.
my wife loved their cocktails.
I like to give my thanks to Walter. Fabian and Juliana for their awesome service and professionalism.
The pillows and beds were so comfortable, the free breakfast had a lot of great option, the free mini bar with Colombian products was a great touch, the roof top bar and some really trendy bars/restaurants downstairs...all in the heart of Poblado. The Click Clack is one of the trendiest places in town!
This hotel was the most beautiful hotel we stayed in during our entire trip to Colombia! We loved the design and decor of the hotel as it highlighted city meets nature perfectly. Our room was very comfortable and high tech. We also really enjoyed the views from the rooftop as well as the pool.
The hotel is located in between Parque el Poblado and Parque Lleras in a quiet street and right in the center of El Poblado. The room was well equiped with a fridge which was convenient. It is a great deal for the price. We enjoyed staying there and can recommend it.
Very stylish and comfortable boutique hotel, with pleasant garden & patio. Location was excellent - easy walking distance to bars & restaurants of El Poblado, but far enough away not to be disturbed at night! Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel was magnificent. Very sleek, modern, and comfortable. The breakfast that was included was delicious and we enjoyed the way we were served. It was a mix of American and Colombian breakfast options, which I enjoyed.
Location and the staff. Everything you could need or want is within a block or two of the hotel. The staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to help. Good in room air conditioning, which isn’t common in Colombia.
Hi The hotel is located close to the metro (subway), the staff were great helpful, the room was spotless, zero noise, i highly recommend Ibis as a great place to stay while in Medellin Colombia
20 4**** hotels in Colombia by far the best breakfast the best staff should be 5**** without any doubt!!!!!
Amazing really breakfast internet staff 5*****
The best hotel of our stay in Colombia. Attentive staff providing advice, great decoration and very pleasant common space. A haven of peace in Medellín.
