Alfaro itself, like its hinterland, is not obviously appealing, but don't be put off. The storks nesting all around the town are the main attraction, with the Abbey roof covered with nests and nesting storks. February saw the nest-building in full swing as well as storks mating. Seeing them taking off and landing with all manner of nesting material in their beaks was worth the visit alone. A five minute drive takes you to the nature reserve on the river and there are minor archaeological sites a similar distance, but hardly worth the effort. Well worth the trip from here are the cave houses at Arguedas and the wilderness that is les Bardenas Reales - a good half day's excursion. Less than an hour's drive takes you into the Rioja region and the town of Cervera del Rio Alhama. Stunning views from the mirador over the river, well worth the climb. We could have spent far longer here and will definitely return.

We like it that our two little dogs are allowed to stay with us for a price of 15 euros. The room was comfortable and warm (it was cold ouitside). The best thing is the inclusive breakfast which had lots of choice even soya milk (I can not tolerate dairy). There was even a small room we could have our breakfast in as dogs are not allowed in the restaurant.

We stayed on a Monday night which meant most restaurants were closed. The hotel is located at one end of the main road through the town. The walk into the town along the road is slightly uphill and not particularly pleasant. However, once down a side street it is much quieter and enjoyable. The highlight for us was the square in front of the church. Buy a drink, sit outside with local families and enjoy the ambiance. The joy of watching the storks come and go was very special and we will definitely return to Alfaro to repeat the experience.

We stayed here as a good place to break between the Costa Blanca and the ferry port of Bilbao. The town is small and neat. There are storks' nests on most chimneys and it is pleasant to walk around. There is a bull ring and there are barriers around that part of town, ready for when they are needed to control the crowds. The restaurant attached to the hotel wasn't quite our cup of tea but would suit people who like burgers, Mexican food and a taverna type cafe. We would find an alternative next time unless very hungry as the burgers are enormous. We tried the Menu of the day and the choice was very limited and not the hottest or tastiest we've had.
Always plenty of parking spaces. Check in was very easy and our requested room was available. The manager who was covering reception was very helpful and put our fridge and freezer items away as required. We always ask for extra pillows and these were already in the room which I believe was due to Marta sorting this even though she was not working on the day of our arrival.
Ideally situated for exploring the town of Alfaro. Also well placed for the AP 15 travelling North or down to Zaragoza and on to Valencia etc
we have stayed here many times on our way to the Costa Blanca coast, it’s a modern hotel: nice staff: free parking : rooms nice comfortable beds - quite adequate for an overnight stop. Food is good not a la carte - but after a long journey for us - we prefer the variety of foods on offer. The are many Storks in the area which Alfaro is renowned for.Since first finding this hotel it now seems to get booked up quickly. They do also have access to wine cellars. Very easy to locate from the Autopista.

Very nice stay, the lady on reception was very helpful giving us a map for the town and marking it where we wanted to go. Nice bars nearby as well as the nesting storks. Very comfortable beds for a good night's stay. Parking was fine, we used one of the hotel bays right outside. There is a car park not far away at the end of the road, which we wouldn't have minded using otherwise.
Clean rooms, breakfast ok (not ideal, but ok ish, you don't starve), if it was by me, I will offer something else than that horrible ,,tostada". The hotel per ansamble was ok. We have tried 4 hotels in the area, this one was by far the most ok. Don't bother try the others, you will be dissapointed.
Ideal parking area...great stopover heading to and from ferry port at Santander. Easy to walk into town. Lovely breakfasts with plenty to choose from. Great for seeing the storks in July! Food /tapas in bar at hotel were lovely , as were the wines !
Good sized room and bathroom with view of nesting storks! Very helpful reception staff and a competent breakfast provided. Plentiful parking outside hotel. This is a good stopover if en route to or from the Bilbao/Santander ferries.
A very welcoming hotel with lots of charm.Very near church with nesting storks that can be viewed from room window. Dinner was good wholesome local cuisine served in a well presented dining room with a terrace.
The plumbing. Good shower and bathroom didn’t have the drain smell issues that Spanish hotels sometimes have. Spacious car park. Short walk to the main square plaza de espana. Great for an overnight stop.
We really like this hotel, we have stayed here several times on our journeys. The attached restaurant is excellent value. Good continental breakfast. Staff very helpful.
