Breakfast is just correct but service is terrible. They often forgot to bring what requested and every time no one is caring…you need to call for the attention. It’s a zero in a supposed five stars hotel.

FAQs about hotels in Marseille

A City Built from the Sea

Founded by the Phocaeans in 600 B.C., the long history of Marseille has produced an interesting and dynamic port-side city bursting with cultural diversity. Watch the fishermen sell their catch by auction at Vieux Harbour or cruise along the Corniche roads with views of the Calanques, dramatic rocky inlets to the sea.

The le Cours Julien and la Plaine areas provide a trendy hangout and every Thursday and Saturday morning the Plaine market offers its various wares. This is the area to buy a novel from a hip bookshop or watch your kids in one of the playgrounds. There are also plentiful cafes to sip a cappuccino and watch the world go by.

If a culture packed vacation is on the agenda, the Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne, Notre Dame de la Garde and Palais Longchamp won’t disappoint. The unique Unité d'Habitation, designed by famous architect Le Corbusier, contains everything from a shopping street to housing and has spectacular views of the terracotta landscape that makes Marseille so distinctive.

Marseille is a short trip from Marseille Provence Airport, so your holiday can start promptly. With over 100 hotels and apartments available, Booking.com is the perfect place find the great accommodation and start your journey in the largest city on the Côte d'Azur.

Marseille is a beautiful city, if a little scruffy and rundown. It is fairly easy to get around although the main station is difficult to access. Most places are walkable but I would recommend using the Tourist train to access the Notre Dame de la Garde. There are some stunning modern museums but several were partially closed whilst I was there. I would particularly recommend the Cosquer museum with its stunning recreation of the Cosquer cave and its 30,000 year old art. (Tip - buy an advance ticket or turn up early to avoid queuing). There are plenty of restaurants and bars lining the Old Port, with seafood an obvious mainstay - the bouillabaisse is excellent!

Marseille is a wonderful French city with many sights and history. It is good to visit the main churches, the palace and the museums in it - Notre Dame de la Garde, Marseille Cathedral, Palais Longchamp, . There are many well-preserved architectural monuments, the old town, the natural history museum, the port, etc. Around the harbor there are many restaurants, some of which you can come across wonderful fish delicacies, such as Bouillabaisse and others. The city cannot boast of enviable cleanliness, as well as the discipline of motor vehicle drivers and pedestrians.

Great city with lots of interesting areas.

Great city with lots of interesting areas. Although it felt 'edgy' with a lot of (often attractive) graffiti etc, it felt safe. People were kind and polite. It certainly did not live up to its dangerous, seedy, rough reputation. It is cultured, artistic and friendly. Great food and a large variety of unique quarters. We will be back.

Good and interesting place. Went down-hill over the decades.

Good and interesting place. Went down-hill over the decades. Visited with kids, good and friendly Arab community in the streets, keeping up the small business and the city alive. Teargas shot every 10 min while we were cris crossing the downtown area. Business goes on and continues, while street battles are fought. Train station full of junkies. Good place for kids to learn about the real world. Maybe too real. Restaurants are no longer affordable if you don't drive a Lamborghini. Forget getting any good food if you have no reservation. La Boheme is gone.

From the airport you can take the shuttle bus to train...

From the airport you can take the shuttle bus to train station in Marseille, train station is a little far to reach from airport, so shuttle is the good option ,cheap and fast. From the train station is metro (two lines) and busses to reach every corner of the city. Is a must to be on the old docks, there are restaurants with good prices city tour bus with hop on-off option(keep the recipe !),cruise ferries or long distance ferries to reach Algerie, Maroc and other destinations ,saturday and sunday are market there and sometimes some entertainers to make some money and to give some extra memories to tourists. There are some interesting museums that are worth to try(go also at the Cosquer Méditerranée,is not cheap but it worth it!!!) and in the first sunday of the month on most of it is free entrance. Also is good to visit the cathedrals, specially the Bazilica Notre-Dame de la Garde, reach by the tourist bus other is a lot to climb,is almost perfect for a top view of the city and mountains.Old streets are narrow so let the car at home, from the first day you will know why..and for the beaches fans, they have some beaches but sorry, is not the perfect place to search it since the city is at the base of the mountains but the history heritage of the city is super, also can be found some forts and the National park des Calanques with hiking and a lot more of oportunities, so Marseille is a city worth to visit and there are a lot of things to do, make a good itinerary and will be great.

Great location in the center of Marseille, just a few footsteps from Vieux Port and all relevant bus/metro stations. Very quiet as the windows do look into a nice courtyard with plants. Very well maintained apartment - complete refurbishment seems less than 2 years ago and all technical items like lamps and heaters worked well. Kitchen equipment with no ditches or scratches. Even dishwasher salt and tabs have been provided! Big freezer with sufficient icebox. Lots of tourist guides in the bookshelf available. Good bed and cosy linen.

Location was exactly what we needed. We arrived at Marseille airport in Vitrolles after 11pm. We were able to catch one of the local shuttles to Saint Charles Railway Station --the shuttles run well into the night and are way less expensive than the unlicensed taxis outside the airport terminal. Once we arrived at St.Charles station, it only took us 5 minutes or less to walk to the hotel in spite of the heavy luggage. Location was the main advantage for us, but the facilities and breakfast were good, too, and personnel was helpful.

Spotlessly clean with two comfortable beds and spacious living room plus kitchen. This was a nice place to get over jet lag at the start of our trip to France. The bus stop to get around Marseille was just a few blocks away, as was an Auchan for food. Charlene was a great hostess, waiting a half hour for us as we got lost getting there. She then wrote out a long email with explicit directions to help us get around town. Marseille was beautiful and we hope to come back someday. We would definitely stay here again.

The apartment is located in a vibrant area of Marseille, in a walking distance from the Vieux Port. Being located in an old building, the elevator is nicely small - quite an experience. We enjoyed the facilities and had everything we needed in the apartment. The hosts were fantastic and very supportive with the check-in and check-out instructions. A perfect choice both for work and holiday purposes, with shops and restaurants around. An excellent spot to start exploring Marseille with all its facettes.

Very well located, next to supermarket, coffee bar, restaurants, beach, and bus-stop with direct link to the train station. Not far from the Vieux Port and Cours Honoré-d'Estienne-d'Orves, a nice going-out area. Very well equipped, including basic food staff which you usually need in the beginning although it is not worth to buy a whole package (salt, olive oil, pasta, ...) Nice design. Beautiful view on a cosy square.

Room view over Vieux Port. Plenty of seafood restaurants nearby. Good breakfast. If you arrive by car, ask the hotel to lower the bollards to get close to reception especially if you have poor mobility. You will have to leave the car in public parking so don't leave anything in it. We could get my wife's 'Air' mobility scooter to the room. Staff very helpful.
