This hotel exceeded my expectations, as I had read mixed reviews on here regarding some factors like cleanliness, spa facilities and food. We loved this hotel for many reasons: The location was fantastic situated up on a hillside with a beautiful 360 degree view. The hotel itself is a very charming and intimate boutique hotel with an artsy feel. Comfortable common space to sit and enjoy the views outside of your room or to have a cocktail from the bar. The view from our room was amazing, and we were able to see the Northern Lights from our room the night we stayed there. We loved the spa and wished we were able to spend more time there. They have beautiful thermal baths and inside/outside thermal pools in case of weather. We did not partake in the dinner the night we stayed, but the breakfast was one of the best we had on our trip. Wonderful dogs on the property that we really enjoyed having around.
Located by River Ölfus in Selfoss, Hotel Selfoss has a cinema and a spa area. Guests at Selfoss Hotel can enjoy the spa for a surcharge, which features a sauna, a steam room and hot water tub.
It’s a perfect base for exploring the golden circle and the south coast. There is only 4.3 mi to Hveragerdi and Selfoss, cities with a wide range of shops and restaurants.

We didn't actually get chance to see much of Selfoss itself as we were using the apartment as a Base for other excursions, great for south coast & golden circle as long as you're comfortable driving a hire car.
We are looking forward to visiting again in the future & seeing even more!

The Town has grown since I visited 7 years ago. The town pool is a great spot to go and relax. There is a fabulous food court across the street from the Hotel Selfoss -- great spot for drinks and dinner. You can still get a good hot dog in the parking lot of the Hotel Selfoss. The town is well located to visit waterfalls, geysers, and thermal pools. I would return.

A friendly town - we stayed in the camper site which was great and then a return visit to stay in a hotel and we ate in the food hall which was nice with options and variety. We also did the Skyr tour in the basement of the food hall. I would add that a wider and more of the “taste” section would be nice.
It’s a central spot to come back to or travel from and back if that suits your travel plans.

Selfoss has a sweet, mostly walkable, growing center that includes an easy, level river-walk. We found enough variety in the food hall to keep us well-fed and happy with the choices over several days. (It was recommended to us by a rental car agent at KEF. She was rightly enthusiastic about the tacos - and just about everything was solid!) Selfoss is also a great location near the Southern Coast for easy, varied day-trips - everything from amazing waterfalls to black-sand beaches, from otherworldly volcanic deposits to hot-springs, craters, and more. With Selfoss as our lodging spot, we could have happily explored for several more days.

Nice quiet town with more than just the waterfall.
Nice quiet town with more than just the waterfall. Plenty of places to eat and shop. Þingvellir national park is nearby with great views, hiking and (of course) several waterfalls. The fall colors were out during our visit the last week of September and only last a few days.
Great location and good base to discover the Golden Circle. Very original housing, confortable even with 2 kids (there is a second bed on the top of the main one), surprisingly quite spacious. Possible to sit outside to enjoy the surrounding forest, it was my daughter's birthday and she loved the setting. There is a shop and restaurant 5mn walk so it is very practical, there is a small kitchen inside the dome with all amenities.
Hotel Hjarðarból is in a realy lovely spot, surrounded by trees and overlooked by a table mountain. Great locality for visiting the main attractions to Iceland but handy for supplies in Selfoss. Nice compact kitchen, and spacious dining room (though in a different building). The rooms are in small buildings scattered around, with trees and picnic tables between them. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Comfortable cabin and warm the whole night. To check in, we met with the host who welcomed us with Nero and Pluto the very friendly doggies :) Didn’t get to use the hot tub, the shower or kitchen, as we only stayed one night. Not far from Selfoss with lots of restaurants, although there is a fridge, kettle and crockery in the cabin if you don’t fancy the kitchen! Would recommend this peaceful place.
This is a cozy charming hotel in what seems like a middle of nowhere. It's a type of a wooden chalet and was warm and nice inside on the contrast with cold and drenching rain outside at the time of the visit.
Big bonus was the restaurant inside the hotel which was already mentioned by many here - it was a buffet and had delicious home made food I guess icelandic style (you had pay extra).
This was a perfect location. Extremely easy to drive the infamous Golden Circle from here. Less than 1 hr from Reykjavík. Free and easy parking. The little bistro restaurant was perfect to get breakfast at 7am before heading out for the day. Restaurants near by (walking distance). Absolutely perfect and extremely pleased with this beautiful little place! Would stay there again.
Great location, within 5 minutes walk to many restaurants. The garden is beautiful. The apartment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom looks new.
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Great host who offered laundry service which we needed desperately after hiking 3 days in the rain. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again in the future.
It is the perfect hotel, and the spa is so warm. I forgot my expensive necklace there and they sent it back to us. They also have cute dogs and one of them jumped on my daughter because she was so happy to play with her. Now my daughter misses the dogs so much. The owners are very friendly, and the restaurant is also amazing.
Checkin was done at Hótel Skálholt's restaurant. The friendly staff pointed out the direction of our cottage for us to drive there. The cottage is quite a distance away though visible from the hotel. The surrounding of the cluster of cottages were serene and peaceful. Outdoor hot tub BBQ equipment were provided.
The room was tidy, comfortable, and very spacious. It is located in the heart of the Selfoss town. There is a food hall in a 5 min walking distance from the hotel. As we stayed there for a night and left very early the following day, we didn't get a chance to try the breakfast in the restaurant from the hotel.
The food is exceptional! The chef is amazing and we enjoyed every bite from our dinner!!!!! We HIGHLY recommend eating at the restaurant.
The ourdoor spa area is really great! And we loved the two hotel dogs who were always there for a cuddle.
Perfect place to see the Northern Lights as well!
The apartment had a private entrance, was spacious, well located for shops and restaurants, well kitted out and clean. We enjoyed living in a smart residential road, in what was a family home. Our hosts always answered our queries. Highly recommended.
Everything was perfect! We were moved to other hotel (Selfoss Hotel), as gesthus was on maintenance but the team make all the effort to turn the experience enjoyable. The room was clean, bed very confortable and nice breakfest!
Excellent location in Selfoss. Wonderful host. Spacious apartment. Beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed the river view out the window and we were able to walk to dinner and the grocery store.
Loved the location, close to everything we wanted to do and so many restaurants to choose from very close. The hotel was clean and the staff was helpful, professional and warm.
