This is a cosy and quirky little boutique hotel in the heart of the old town, tucked down a quiet lane but less than 100m to the main thoroughfare. The reception area is set up like a cosy sitting room, and the friendly, helpful staff are wonderful without exception. We were there 2 nights and had 2 excellent dinners at nearby restaurants organised by reception. Room was huge, as was bathroom. Very comfortable and tasteful. Under the rafters, which I like. Breakfast offered great variety and freshness. You could juice your own blood oranges and lemons, and they had an amazing array of fresh home baked cakes and pastries. Stay. You won’t regret it.

The Masterpiece of Puccini
Once Italy’s 2nd largest city state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognisable historic centre is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely ‘passeggiata’.
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheatre remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More pavement restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini – the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodation includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.

A beautiful setting, we walked and then rode bikes around the wall. The shopping in Lucca was good. Lots of variety. We took the chance to relax more in Lucca after having some hectic days with massive crowds in Rome. The step down in pace was really welcomed.

Lucca is a delightful and unique Tuscan city; in my opinion it is probably far more interesting and compact than other cities. The city walls are unrivalled and most unusual - almost like walking along a highway, which is so unlike the usual medieval city walls. The town has so much to offer - from history to restaurants and shops, plus the walls to relax on. It is very busy but so are all the other cities. It is also an excellent centre from which to explore other areas; the Serchio Valley (where we live), Pisa, the Cinque Terre, Florence, Pistoia etc. There is a good transport system, both bus and train. I'd choose it anytime.

Perfect for a 3-4 day stay without the crowds and tat of Pisa and Florence. Superb food and plenty of history and culture to soak up. Easy enough to find off the tourist trail places to eat and drink and overall we felt welcomed and its out 3rd visit but our longest which was we felt too long for 5 nights.
Everything is easy to access on foot or bicycle bit don't try driving on the city. Plenty of places to eat and all good quality, out highlights were superb food at Trattoria Da Nonna Clara and more down to earth local's venue Ottavo Nano Pub with cheaper quality food/drink but excellent atmosphere especially when AC v Inter was being live streamed.

A fascinating town. Such old buildings and most being used.
A fascinating town. Such old buildings and most being used. A living museum!
Quiet centre with limited/no vehicle access allowed. Just loved walking the narrow, cobbled streets and visiting amazing old churches and other buildings, walking the lovely tree lined city walls - about 4.5km all the way around, I think.
Heaps of amazing patisseries, cafes, restaurants and coffee spots!
And Lucca is an easy drive to La Spezia - boat ride to the Cinque Terre from there and hop off for walks along the way, and 25 minute drive to Pisa.

We stayed in the old town within the old walls.
We stayed in the old town within the old walls. Within the walls you can find the cathedral and other churches, towers and palaces. They are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to enjoy. Within the walls there is a bus station and the railway station is only a short walk away. You can walk around the town walls which are 4km surrounding the town. We took the train to Florence and Pisa and the bus to Viareggio a lovely 7km beach resort.

Beautiful old town Lucca, especially enjoyed the walks and bicycle rides along the wall, easy to get around if you are not driving yourself but you can walk or cycle everywhere easily within the old town walls.
Anna was very kind and received us very well. Checkin and checkout were smooth. Anna kindly allow us to let our luggage during the day after checkout what was really convenient. Room is comfortable, bathroom is big, the place is cozy and cute. It is around 10-15 min walking from city center - so possible to go and come back easily.
Breakfast was good, one of the best ones I had in Italy so far - juice, cappuccino, fruits, croissant (I would only maybe add eggs ;-P)
I would recommend and come back at this place! Thank you!
We had a wonderful stay in beautiful La Villa Tuia. Many thanks to Manuela and Monica for the warm welcome, comfortable and relaxing Azalea-room and delicious breakfast.
These cheerful powerladies used to run a much larger hotel on the Italian riviera together and just arrived in Lucca in June 2021 to open up this lovely boutique B&B. Lucky us! The service is totally on point and their sense of style immaculate.
Would definitely recommend. Great location too!
if you want to live in the 1930’s Italy then stay here. it’s beautiful. if you come to Lucca you must stay here. it oozes with authenticity and old style. love it. I honestly think people would normally pay a lot more for such a traditional setting. I sat out on the veranda and watched the bell
toll in front of the beautiful flowers. This is possibly the best place I’ve stayed. I’m only disappointed I didn’t meet the host.
This is a brand new, sparkling clean room with very polite staff. We stayed there for 4 nights with our girls and had a great time. It is in the castle in a convenient spot close to everything but not noisy. Our host offered to bring us a small refrigerator after our request, which we appreciated very much.
It was the perfect stay for resting in our 2 week roadtrip to Italy.
The apartment is a short walk from the Train station and located next to the Piazza Napoleone. There are pastry shops and restaurants near by. The apartment had a large bedroom and separate living room. The washing machine came in handy for us because were in Italy for a month. I just can't say enough nice things about the location and apartment.
We enjoyed everything about Villa La Preziosa! A wonderful boutique hotel just outside of Lucca. Beautiful grounds, very comfortable rooms. Excellent eye to detail in every aspect of the hotel and grounds. The grounds are a labour of love! Very attentive staff made us feel very at home! Highly recommended!!
It was just one night stop in Lucca and we chose an hotel in the city centre to take the maximum from our short stay. The hotel could not be more in the centre! Very good location, the staff was super friendly and the room big and very comfortable for a family of 5 + dog. Breakfast also good.
Beautiful property just outside of Lucca’s center (just a 5 min drive). Warm, sincere service; big breakfast buffet; gorgeous grounds and beautifully decorated hotel; beautiful swimming pool amongst the olive trees.
Rooms were simple and very comfortable.
We loved our stay here.
A very cosy hotel with a great welcome, very nice bar (and barlady) and absolutely brilliantly located bang in the centre of the old town of Lucca. Good parking. Good breakfast - the fruit was delicious which often isn't the case. The room was silent, dark and warm.
The atmosphere in the house and garden is amazing. The level of detail the owner puts in his property is wonderful. The service is really optimal. The location is a 5 minute walk from the Lucca walls, very convenient and with parking on the property.
Our favorite stay during our 2-week visit to Italy. We enjoyed Prosecco from our balcony overlooking the rooftops of Lucca. Wonderful staff, especially Roberto, who provided us with exceptional customer service. Outstanding breakfast too!
Had a bar fridge, very clean, comfortable bed and location was good. Only a few minutes walk to the wall of Lucca. Hotel included free parking so it was ideal especially when you have multiple luggages. Breakfast was ok.
Pool was refreshing after a long day if walking. Able to order snacks/drinks at the pool. comfortable bed, great breakfast. 20-minute walk to inside the walls of Lucca and to the train station. Super friendly staff.
The city of Lucca was wonderful and so was this hotel. The facility was easy to find, modern, quiet and clean. The staff was terrific! And the breakfast buffet was the best breakfast we had on our whole trip!
This was rated as a three star hotel but was definitely five star to me. My sister and myself have the best time. We rented a car and were able to go to all kinds of different places in Italy from Lucca.
Staff very friendly and extremely helpful in every way. Lovely and clean throughout and just 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Lucca inside the walls.
On our 5 week Italy vacation, this was by far the most beautiful hotel with the Italian feeling and the best breakfast and nicest staff. Great location!!
