Santa Cruz Huatulco is essentially a sun/heat/pool/beach location.
Due to its increasing popularity as a tourist destination, prices have escalated in the last 4 years. In fact quite sustainably. Hotel, food and boat excursion prices are similar to those in most Canadian cities. Taxi fares are quite reasonable.
If you are looking for cultural activities (museums, galleries, concerts, etc.), this is not a good location.
Be prepared for earthquakes.

Found some of the eating establishments were very expensive for the type of food offerings. It was very hard to find value for your monies. The local food carts were great and great prices.
Loved Nico’s cafe for a great sandwich. Trifty’s had great ice cream.
The local flea market was good, only found the jewellery stores outrageously expensive. They really insulted my intelligence. Needless to say I did not buy anything there. I usually pick up something, and was hugely disappointed. Mind you the jewelry styles were very dated unlike Cabo or Playa del Carmen.

Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco.
Great location for access to the rest of Huatulco. It's a main beach so it's crowded and the cruise ships dock here so the water is murky - no snorkeling. Santa Cruz has very few stores - no grocery store, no fresh fruit/vegetable stores - so you have to take a cab to Chedraui or into La Crucecita.

This place suits Canadian/American tourists in couple or family. So many Canadian tourists, and it seemed like the city had also made changes to accommodate the Canadian culture better. Not a very nice city and not very walkable. Taxi situation is great though, unionized and standardized rates. Feels very safe.

We enjoyed Huatulco and La Crucecita but you can give the little beach town of Santa Cruz a miss. It is a seedy little town that has completely caved to the cruise ships and disrespectful tourists. Not sure what the beachside restaurants are all about. They all seem to use the same kitchen!!! And the obnoxious behavior of the staff was so offensive, as if we are stupid and illiterate. We didn’t have this experience anywhere else in the state of Oaxaca during our month long trip.

Santa Cruz Huatulco is very similar to where I lived (Ixtapa) except it's a lot bigger. I only spent one night there and left the next morning. From what I saw it was very pretty, the buildings are nicely painted, no garbage on the street, the people I met were all friendly. I didn't check out the beach or go anywhere so I have no idea what the night life is like, it's a tourist resort town, fun and sun.

Excellent value for a budget traveller. AIthough an older hotel, our room was spacious and clean, with a built in closet and desk or table
Window looking into the courtyard could be opened for fresh air. Celing fan but no AC which didn't bother me. Guests were mostly Mexican. Staff super friendly but no English so we used a translate app
There is a swimming pool. The beach is less than a block.
Owner was around, very down to earth. He acknowledged the place needed a 'tune up'
The breakfast was simple and mostly the same every day, but very fresh. Most importantly, the coffee was good!
My husband landed in the hospital for a night. The hotel moved us to a suite for the same price as the room so he would be more comfortable when he came back! One of the staff went out and bought a little bag full of Mexican treats for him! Truly kind and helpful people!
It was a short walk to a beautiful beach and a 15 min. walk into the center of town.
Location is perfect for walking - Santa Cruz is easy to get to and you are very close to Playa Chahue. It's a beautiful hotel with a lovely pool. Our room was located on the 3rd floor and a little farther away from the pool area which was a bonus. Really nice restaurant with good choices on the menu and the breakfast buffet was stellar. Staff was very helpful when needed. Housekeeping was impeccable. We would happily choose to stay here again!
The terrace balcony. Good shower. Very clean. Lock box in the room. Friendly, helpful staff. Great location with quick access to the beach, both the hotel's beach club, and the Santa Cruz beach. There were lots of restaurants in the area. There is a pedestrian walkway right beside the hotel that leads to La Crusecita town and a large superstore. It takes about 15 minutes. Gorgeous weather. Around 30 C midday and 21-24 at night.
Great location on the beach, it was more like a boutique resort without the resort! Nice pretty little rooms, just as pictured, good layout for shade, some options for bigger rooms at a small price difference. Wonderful food next door, all well made thoughtful local cuisine. Staff were nice. It’s very low key here, just a few guests in a small fishing village with activity only at dawn for fishing.
Staff is exceptional. Location is beautiful. I LOVED not having to fight for a chair at the pool. Lots of towels and chairs always available. Property is well maintained and very clean. WE stayed in a club room with our own private pool. The club rooms are right on the beach wth an unobstructed view of the beach . I highly recommend these rooms.
1. Booking.com process took me 2 minutes. I've been your sister company, Priceline, client for over 23 years. There were some occasional issues. My first try with you was amazing. The hotel check in with Alex took 1 minute. Thats how it's supposed to be and I was pleased. Room 24. Tiburon. Perfect. Check out. Perfect.
Sitting on the balcony watching the sunrise, the sunset, the full moon.
Long walks on the beach. The fishermen and the surfers. The waters are intimidating but playing on the shore or in the river is fun.
The staff are very kind and willing to help in any way they can. Gabe Thomas Lisa Cara Irving you all rock♥️
Nice delicious breakfast, despite few options. The view from the room was excellent!
It is like being in a house rather than a hotel, in a quiet residential area, great for a good rest, but not so much for looking for something more. If you want to go out for dinner, you have to take a cab or drive.
The staff was friendly and agreed that the hotel is outdated and that the pictures posted in Booking.com are not realistic to the way their rooms are. We had to change hotel, and it was positive that Hotel Nonni is nearby, almost same prices, but with good quality, clean, attention.
The hotel is a Spanish Mexican style , old school which I find very comfortable.I’ve travelled extensively in Mexico staying at the same Mexican owned hotels and travelled in Spain staying at the same types of hotels and enjoy them Also this hotel was extremely clean.
Centrally located and within walking distance to all amenities. Many restaurants on-site with fantastic food. The staff were exceptional! Loved the special free events on the beach such as the live music.
Barbara and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and knowledgeable. I'm a newbie traveler bouncing around México and Xquenda Huatulco Spa helped me stay inside the rails lol
