The property includes a manicured garden and an orchard with several fruit trees from Africa, Europe and America.... Breakfast was delicious, the hosts provided various kinds of dark bread (when they learnt we are from Germany) apart from home-made jams and cakes. As we had to stay another night because of the ferry, they very kindly offered us a different room. If you are interested you can learn a lot about social and cultural life in the Azores, the host is a mine of information!

Quinta das Mercês is a 16th century country house offering luxury accommodation in front of the sea. It is situated on Mount Brasil, 5 minutes' drive away from the centre of Angra do Heroísmo. Location could not have been better. Beautiful home. Just outside of Angra on the water. Quiet and peaceful after a day of white knuckle driving on the island! The owner, Maria, was absolutely lovely, as was her staff. Excellent price also. Hope to go back and stay in the spring.
