Incredible property … the casitas, the pool, the vegetation and the management! Beautiful people with beautiful land and dwellings. Kitchen and bath were so great … the outside patio and hammock! Also location is so quiet in the beach jungle forest. The howler monkeys are incredible.

The staff is awesome... we loved Manuel! The place is a little jungle paradise on the ocean. A nice pool, a rocky beach, monkeys in the trees, and an excellent restaurant. We enjoyed yoga and the remote area of the lodge. Like stepping back into the real Costa Rica before it got all commercialized.

The charm of the structure and the land it is upon. A mix of jungle and flower fauna (with chickens, dogs and a cat mixed in). The pool is a delight as well. Oh…and the BEST shower!

I enjoyed all of the facilities that were offered. We got a small kitchenette, a living space, and a private room and bathroom for a great price. It was close to the beach and very peaceful.

The jungle location meant we saw howlers, capuchins, agouti and other animals close up and to ourselves. This was quite exciting. At first appearance it looks promising … but …
Cabuya, located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, is...
Cabuya, located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, is a charming small beach town that is situated near the Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve. It is often compared to the rural beach communities of the country before the 1990s tourism boom, which means that it has a less developed tourist infrastructure and offers a more authentic Costa Rican vacation experience. If you're looking for some peace and quiet, Cabuya is the perfect place to be. While nearby beaches like Mal Pais, Montezuma, and Santa Teresa are great for surfing enthusiasts.

There isn't much to do in Cabuya other than the cemetery island and the reserve for hiking. We did walk the beach which was rocky but saw a lot of wildlife. Not much available to eat. We spent more time in Montezuma. Cabuya is a nice day trip.
This hotel is amazing. Matt and Cece (the owners) are the nicest people, the staff are all really friendly and accommodating, the food is amazing and the location is a 10/10. Suggest renting transportation (car, atv, moped) in order to go to montezuma/Santa teresa and to beach hop/explore. I’m a luxury traveler that typically would not stay at a hotel without a/c but this was not a problem at calala at all as it’s comfortable in the room with the ceiling fan and windows open. Will definitely be back to this hotel!
We took the premium accommodation which had an amazing view and great wildlife around the place ( aras flying every day by our balcony and around the pool, the tiny bats mounted on the tree by our bathroom, the wild Congo monkey shouts and cigales made the experience awesome). it was our best jungle accommodation during our stay.
We chose this hotel for it’s a rescue center and we wanted to help this project ( aras’ reinsertion, caring for orphan monkeys,…).
The pool was welcoming after a long journey or hike.
Really nice staff and clean and comfortable lodging. If you are looking for a fancy hotel, this is not it, and I don't mean that in a bad way. We loved our stay.
We stayed in a unit without air conditioning, which was no problem as they had nice fans. Small simple kitchen and nice beds. Great birds and monkeys all around and easy access to beaches and food in Cabuya. We hope to come again.
I am so sad i missed this place when first booking a trip to Cabuya. Jenny is an amazing person and especially cook, she was very attentive and we chatted for a while.
The room was very nice and comfortable, the place has a little outside gym which is amazing (feels very good to be doing something on vacation)
I highly recommend this place since you feel safe, welcome and the place has spirit.
Great place to relax and unwind in nature. You have everything you need to cook and chill in a relaxed air conditioned environment with hammocks outside. During my stay there were horses and deer roaming outside, with the sounds of monkeys and other wildlife. Also near the nature reserve and Isla de Cabuya for excursions. Highly recommended.
Breakfast was very good, helpful staff and very nice hotel with an amazing swimming pool, highly recommended! We also saw many wild animals which is what we were looking for, very special!
It is in a remote location so be aware of that if you plan on visiting other places although Montezuma is very close and easy to reach
Calala Lodge is the place to disconnect and feel close to nature. Highly recommended for travellers who want to explore the Nicoya Peninsula and not stay in the "trendy" places and enjoy Cabuya - a place with everything you need for your stay to be perfect. The food is exceptional and the staff is very friendly.
We wholeheartedly recommend Calala Lodge. We had a wonderful time! The hotel is so beautiful that you don't even want to leave it for other activities. The hosts and staff are exceptionally friendly. The breakfast is super delicious! We had wonderful days- thank you for everything!
Really special place! It‘s very green, in nature. The rooms are really beautiful. You have your own sitting place in front of the room. It‘s quiet. It has not much nearby, with the car you have 15-20 mins to Montezuma.
The restaurant directly next to the hotel is delicious!!
I would highly recommend staying there. Knowing you are helping to support wild animal rehabilitation by renting a hotel room. The view is stunning and my absolutely favourite part is the bathroom was outside. Very private and just made me feel like I was part of the jungle!
Amazing !! Staff and volunteers are welcoming and knowledgeable . Your stay helps support the cause.
These young people are genuinely saving the planet.
Cabuya is a beautiful fishing village . If you love nature and delicious food , stay .. you won’t want to leave .
The quiet nature atmosphere. This is a charming little camper with an exceptional outside living space. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the quiet nature atmosphere. Having a firepit was nice. This not a 5 star hotel just a cool spot to stay
It checked all our boxes for A/C, nice sized pool, cleanliness, stocked kitchen and walkable within 5-20 min to several restaurants and 2 markets. Cabuya is a quaint, friendly village.
Very friendly staff and set in lovely grounds with a great pool. It's a great value place to stay for a few days and enjoy the genuine Tico town of Cabuya. They made me very welcome.
We enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cottage with all amenities. Kids loved the pool and we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Cabuya is a dream of a place, as is the little house.
Beautiful place, quiet and surrounded by nature. Very big, comfortable, clean and nicely decorated room. Nice staff, and excellent value for money (the best we got in Costa Rica).
Our favourite accommo in Costa Rica so far. Beautiful lodges as well as the facilities. An amazing food menu, helpful staff, beautiful space during the day as well as night.
