Great walks around a very interesting town and its hinterland - loved all the dogs too, thought they added to the relaxed and happy atmosphere. The Little White Bus that took us up Swaledale was wonderful because of the lovely walking there. So glad that the lovely old character of the town is retained and that everything is accessible and within a small area.

I liked the friendly people in Richmond.
I liked the friendly people in Richmond. The shops, restaurants, and pubs were all great, and very reasonably priced. The portions in the restaurant were huge everywhere we visited. We used the local gym and spa on a day pass and the facilities were very good for the money we paid. The public transport was easy to use and cheap. The taxis were plentiful, the drivers were friendly and it was very easy to get a taxi.

We have family at Catterick and Richmond is only a few minutes drive from there. We like the Station complex with the shops & cinema, the centre of Richmond around the market place. I recommend the Green Howards museum and the Georgian theatre has a great 1 hour tour for just £8. There is the castle to visit and a nice walk around the castle to try. There are plenty of shops, little cafes, an indoor market, lots of pubs and a variety of take-aways. The market pace is cobbled and some streets away from the centre and very steep and can be hard walking for elderly.

Loved the dramatic landscape of the castle and the river valley around the town. The centre is up a slight hill but parking available in the central market square and down by the river. Some public footpaths available to walk in the countryside around the town. The town gives perhaps a good mornings wandering but with a car you can easily access the beautiful dales.

Great market town, the Saturday market held in the cobbled square was in full swing and very well attended.
Richmond is convenient for the stunning North Yorkshire Dales.
Has its own ruined castle and the beautiful river Swale runs through Richmond, lots of independent shops and the most fabulous fish and chips are to be had from the shop in the middle of the square …they are cooked in dripping and were delicious.
Lovely town to visit
What a lovely hotel. Recently refurbished to the highest quality it was an aesthetic delight to stay in. And such a beautiful period building. It was extremely hot when we stayed but the hotel found us a wonderful dyson fan that made it possible to relax: lovely. The bed was a mile wide, the shower generous with good water pressure and four - yes FOUR - different shower heads. The service was outstanding. Really 12 our of 10. I would heartily recommend the hotel.
Georgian property situated on a lovely street in the centre of Richmond. The hotel is well appointed with a lounge and breakfast area for guests. We booked a large executive double room which was very comfortable, with excellent en suite facilities. All of the hotel was clean, and breakfast was of good quality with a full range of traditional and continental options available. All staff were courteous and friendly during our stay.
We had a fantastic holiday at this splendid B&B! Ample and delicious breakfast (vegetarian was no problem!), spacious and clean room, coffee and tea facilities in the room, fantastic hosts who made you feel at home immediately at arrival with tea and homemade cake, and... an unforgettable view!!! Ellerton Lodge was for us the perfect base to visit the whole area of the Yorkshire Dales, during our 8-night stay. Can't be improved!
Location was very convenient for exploring Richmond on foot. Nice outlook onto small Georgian Square. Parking using disk system worked well for us in October. Great welcome. Large clean and comfortable room. Nice touches like biscuits and jar of sweeties and tasteful decor in accommodation. The proprietor had only been running the hotel for 8 weeks. She has done a lovely job with the rooms. Great value for money.
By far our best stay so far at The Kings Head. I think the staff made the difference, very friendly and attentive. Breakfasts are brilliant, and ate in the restaurant one evening and not disappointed. Great base for this part of Yorkshire to explore. Great new parking system where you book a numbered place in the car park for the duration of your stay, as parking in Richmond can be difficult.
The guest room, actually turned out to be two rooms. Very comfortable, and a central location in Richmond (which is not a huge place). Staff were helpful and efficient. We booked a table and were very glad to have done so. Food was delicious and Richmond was busy, despite covid.
Richmond is a very pretty town, with good walking, a fine castle and a small market (at least on Saturdays).
The breakfast was excellent with generous portions and plenty to help yourself from. The house is a bit quirky with sloping floors in places, and made things interesting. The location in the centre of Richmond was very convenient. The parking was fine if you follow the advice given by the Castle House as the wardens are very vigilant. The welcome glass of wine was a nice touch.
Excellent tasty breakfast, well prepared and locally resourced, including home-made jams etc. A very welcoming and friendly greeting by the proprietor, with plenty of useful information about the local area. A fantastic Yorkshire location, with beautiful views. It ticked all the boxes for us. Would highly recommend this B and B for both its charm and comfort.
The apartment was exactly as described, very clean and in a great location. It had everything you needed, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and lounge/diner. Jim the host kept in touch with any information you may need. Richmond is a great place to stay and a short drive away to explore the Yorkshire Dale's.
The location could not be better: on Tower Street, just feet from the castle entrance, and loads of restaurants, pubs, markets, and groceries within a block. Free overnight car parking was a few blocks away, on "The Green" down the Richmond hill.
Great location in the heart of Richmond. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast at 7 was great - not enough hotels offer this option. Very good value for money.
Location really good just off main square in Richmond. Car parking good with access at rear of hotel. Staff pleasant and friendly. Really good Yorkshire breakfast.
Location was perfect - central to Richmond and the Dales. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! Staff were friendly and helpful.
Staff were great, location was beautiful, right out in the Yorkshire Dales. Good food, good beer. Room was spotless and newly fitted bathroom and shower etc
A little touch of luxury in a picturesque Yorkshire village. The owners have transformed what was once a tiny village farmers’ local into a 5 star hotel.
Breakfast very good plenty of options can't fault
Close to town center. If we go to Richmond for a short stay, will definitely try to book the Buck inn
