The location had stunning views, was not too far a walk into the town. The decor and cleanliness of the property, considering its age were strikingly lovely, the furniture was georgous in the lounge areas. The food was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

I had a wonderful time here. The hotel is very beautiful, you can walk to the lake, and it is a good choice to leisurely enjoy the scenery in the hotel. My room has a bay window, where I drink coffee and meditate. The house is fully equipped, the toilet is very clean, and the room is spacious.

Merewood was an exceptional stay. The old home is gorgeous and the staff was friendly. The rooms themselves had a stunning view, comfy beds, a cozy feel, and were stocked extremely well with toiletries.
The location itself is a bit remote, but we appreciated the quiet. It's easy enough to order a taxi to get to town, just give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes for them to arrive. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be returning.

Windermere down the hill to Bowness, lots of shops and eateries in both.
Take a ferry to Ambleside, parks, Roman ruins, more great shopping and fabulous views along the path from Ambleside to Grasmere.
Wray Castle on the far side of the lake is interesting, but the 5 mile path along the lakeside is fabulous as well, with the ferry to either return you to Ambleside and then to Bowness, or straight across to Bowness and a walk up the hill to Windermere. I was there in the fall, mid October, the colors were just lovely, and days were either drizzling or sunny or both. Cool but not cold. Down the hill by the lakeside, Bowness was frenetically busy and crowded- I much preferred to stay in Windermere, busy but NOT frenetic, and visit Bowness…..

Absolutely beautiful, peaceful place.
Absolutely beautiful, peaceful place. So much to do but not too busy. Such an amazing place, I would happily live in that area. Already planning our next trip for next year and to stay longer. We ate in the bar and grill over looking the lake and the food was nice, a lot for your money, staff were lovely. We walked around and found it very easy to get around, plenty of little shops and things to look at. Some lovely little cafes to sit in and have a hot drink and treat.

Bowness and Windermere are both lovely Towns in there own right, having numerous, shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. They're also great bases to explore the Lake district. You can take boat trips from Bowness out onto lake Windermere, to various locations such as, Ambleside.

Windermere is a good base to explore the lake & surrounding areas. The town is much quieter than Bowness - which is a 25 min walk. We found some good local restaurants but not one good pub or wine bar - I was expecting old traditional pubs with good local food - such a missed opportunity!

Windermere in the last week of September is still very busy,...
Windermere in the last week of September is still very busy, so if you want to eat out, I would recommend booking in advance.
There are lots of things to do in the area. We last visited the Jetty Museum in 1993 and would have visited in 2019 but it was closed for refurbishment. So we went this time and it was wonderful. Very nicely restored with extra interactive things for children (and adults!) to do, plus a lovely cafe which I don't think they had previously.
There are lots of different Lake cruises running from Bowness which is just a 10 - 15 minute walk south of Windermere. All are priced reasonably according to length of time and where on the Lake they go. They run until quite late in the day. At some point during most cruises, military jets do practice flights past the lake which is quite spectacular (and very noisy!)
Plenty of independent shops, bars and cafes in the town. Bowness is just a 10 - 15 minute walk away and also has plenty.
All in all, a great place to visit.

The reception and hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Comfortable room with excellent bathroom. The swimming pool and sauna are a great addition and easy to reserve a space. The breakfast is fantastic with a range of pastries to start and various choices for breakfast (the Cumbrian full breakfast is brilliant) The coffee and fresh orange is fresh and tastes amazing. Amazing views overlooking Windermere area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Windermere Hotel.
The room was very spacious and clean and had a wonderful view over the lake.
The staff went above and beyond, making the room look romantic for our anniversary, for which we are very grateful.
The breakfast buffet had a great choice and was very tasty.
Overall, the whole experience was very enjoyable, and we will be coming back again.
apartment was immaculately clean. plenty of space. everything about just oozed 5 star quality. located right in the centre of windermere few mins walk to all local shops bars and restaurants. loved the jacuzzi bath which is huge. the resin floor throughout the property is is just amazing. would definitely recommend this apartment for anyone wanting that little bit of extra luxury.
The hotel was near to Windermere, Bowness on Windermere. You didn't have to use your car as they were in walking distance. Once in Bowness on Windermere you had access to the ferry over the lake to walk to Hawkshead or a boat trip up the lake to Ambleside.
