Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. We spent our days walking down to the nearby beach, enjoying swims and snorkelling adventures in the warm waters. A beautiful island, which is surprisingly big as it takes about 3 hours / 120km to drive the ourter circumference. Once you get outside of the main town it is exceedingly quite, with beachtiful beaches and countryside. A car is a must! The main town has easy access by boat to other remote islands. Taketomi was only about 15 minutes away, with stunning beaches, a good bike rental service with shuttle bus from the port and ox-cart rides!
