Breakfast was served in the large restaurant, and the quality was superb with the staff being very attentive and nice. Loved the Japanese selection! Room was nice and large, and very clean. Two choices of private onsen! We managed to enjoy both of them. In case you're hungry from all the onsen, they also provide ramen, drinks and beer for supper for free!

The location is not obvious, but there is a free shuttle service between the station and the hotel. For those who want to rest for a night or a few days away from big cities, this hotel is perfect, especially the rooms with a private bathtub and a terrace facing Mount Fuji. The view is superb, it doesn't even seem real, and the bath in the private onsen is incredible for relaxing. The room is very clean and comfortable.

Very pleasant small house, clean, comfortable and providing all you need and more, with instructions. It's in the middle of nowhere which is what we were looking for, and at the same time permits to drive in a reasonable time to any Izu coast.

It was one of the best hotel experiences that I have ever had!
[hospitality and service]
From the moment we parked into hotel, we have been warmly greeted and welcomed. It was smooth from the beginning, check in, welcome drink and orientation. Everything is well organized and considerate. It was really lovely that hotel staff even prepared menu in Chinese for dinner! Kudos to authentic Japanese omotenashi!
[facility and room]
Our room or villa was renovated from a hundred year old traditional Japanese Kura, where you got to experience the traditional Japanese culture and also enjoy the modern and luxury side as a high end hotel! We had a very secluded hot spring in our backyard, which definitely was the highlight of our stay! Champaign and hot springs!!
[food]
I know many of the tourists are expecting traditional Japanese cuisine but our Italian fusion dining experience was just superb! It was a high end Italian full course but with Japanese fusion, such as the concept of “Shun” which means to use most seasonal ingredients and all of the vege and meat were harvested locally in nearby area. Hats off to the chef!! I would definitely come back for the food!!

There is a more to explore here than we realized. Apart from hiking up hills for great views, we did not budget enough time for more sight-seeing. We had wanted to visit a wasabi farm but wound up at a wasabi market which was really cool with lots of wasabi based products - that was an experience in itself. Probably best explored by car.

It was a lovely small town, a welcome change from busy cities crowded with tourists. Very relaxing, beautiful hot springs in the middle of town, a charming temple and shrine surrounded by huge cedar trees. We stayed twi nights and really enjoyed it. From Shuzenji station you can take bus to a viewing area where if the weather conditions are right you can view Mt Fuji.

A car or bike is really essential to get around, and see the the sights, as buses may only run a few times each day.
Doi Gold Mine is an excellent working museum, lots to see and touch, even handle the pure gold ingots weighing 12.5kg. You can even do some gold panning. 400 metres of caves have been prepared as an example of the old hand-dug mines, 30 cm per day.
Mihama beach is great for families, sheltered, with good facilities, and the nearby Heda museum documenting Japan-Russian relations.
Lots of small coastal towns, with some places to stay, though many restaurants close early, and there are very few convenience stores, meaning you need to stock up and plan your trip and meals.
Food is mainly sea food, izakayas, the odd Italian and Chinese restaurant, and some tea/ coffee shops. Not really a culinary hot spot. Beach restaurants serve ramen, hot dogs, yakisoba, and other fast foods.
Quite a few abandoned places, relics of the bubble era.

public transport is very difficult, expensive and quite rare, make sure to check timetables (all in japanese by the way) because you can end up waiting hours for the next bus. But very beautiful and many many things to see so leave a lot of time and maybe rent a car if you can

Good parts:
The seafood is fantastic.
Bad parts:
Good parts:
The seafood is fantastic.
Bad parts:
The Toi sakura is a little disappointing for the volume is far from enough. And the traffic is not so convenient considering most buses only come once an hour.
This place exceeded my expectations! All hot spring baths are private, which is perfect. We had no problems reserving them whenever we wanted. The dinner and breakfast were not just food but a whole cultural experience. The staff was so sweet and did their best to communicate with us.
We even got to see Mt. Fuji near the hotel, which was a pleasant surprise. The sea is also very close to the place.
I would love to return someday!
Despite the room being a bit outdated, it's clean & very spacious. We had 2 tatami rooms for each couple. Each room can stay 4 or more person. The mountains view & traditional Japanese houses from our balcony were amazing. Shuzenji is a small rural area/town in Izu, but we were luck one of staff could speak Mandarin, which is of great help (we can speak only English or Mandarin).
The location of the hotel was superb, offering a picturesque view of Mount Fuji that enhanced my stay significantly. I was delighted by the cleanliness and overall comfort of the room, which provided a pleasant retreat after a day of sightseeing. Overall, the combination of the stunning view and well-maintained accommodations made for a memorable experience.
Having a private onsen was amazing and so worth paying extra for!
The staff were lovely and very professional.
It was nice we could use the facilities of the wider resorts (zip line) but unfortunately it was not open while we were there due to the weather.
The hotel is very isolated so we were glad at have a car to be able to explore other restaurants
Good location, 10 minutes from shuzenji onsen bus stop. Facilities and bed cabins are clean. Lockable storage and power plug in bed cabins. Rustic decorations, a lot of bamboo elements. I particularly like the bamboo lamp in bed cabins. Staffs are kind, and you can store your luggage after check out.
Staff were very sweet and despite a language barrier all interactions were great. The owner gave my partner and I some oranges on the morning of checkout as a very nice gesture. The onsens were very nice and worth the money, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring Izu.
Beautiful sprawling resort. Lovely large rooms suitable for a family of 4. The mixed bedding (western for the adults and japanese for the teens was a hit). The private onsen overlooking Mount Fuji was breathtaking. A beautiful property that we wish we had stayed longer at.
The onset in the room is a great way to end the night. The place is amazing! If you want to get a true authentic Japanese experience, then book this place! Being next to the river is such a pleasure to fall asleep. breakfast and dinner next to the river is amazing
Amazing value for money, with all the facilities such as Karaoke, table tennis, billiard, and game center. Onsen was available, and facility was great. Dinner and breakfast was very tasty too and can't believe it was under 100 dollars a night!!
The stay at Shin Kaikatei Izumi was absolutely amazing, the staff was so friendly and polite! We were greeted with tea and a snack while we waited for the check in. The room had an incredible view and the private Onsen was awesome!
Although we are late arrival, property still waiting us patiently.
All facilities were clean and well maintained.
All staff were excellent and sincerely.
Food were delicious
Close to the izu zoo and mt omuro, 10mins to drive.
The ryokan is a traditional building modernized for guests’ convenience. The design and attention to detail is beautiful. The meals were outstanding. The onsen and rotemburo were small but lovely and thankfully never crowded!
Lovely hotel in the mountain with good buffet in the morning and evening- both japanese and western food. And even free homemade wine for dinner. We enjoyed very much the pool area and the big outdoor onsen.
In the centre of the cute part of Shuzenji, with multiple onsen in the neighbourhood :). Very nice and chill hostel with an amazing owner that has many good recommendations for things to do and restaurants.
We like the welcoming receptionist and the reception area. All the staff were friendly. We loved the dinner and breakfast by the river. We loved the private onsen.
