Under new management from mid 2022 and just 80 metres from Paihia Beach, Peppertree Lodge & Backpackers features 3 tennis courts and a barbecue area with outdoor seating.

Peppertree Lodge & Backpackers Paihia is less than 5 minutes’ walk from the Maritime Centre and Paihia Scenic Reserve. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds are a 5-minute drive. Kerikeri Airport is a 25-minute drive away.

There was a really nice atmosphere. I had the queen ensuite room which was beautifully decorated, really clean and light. The staff were really helpful and accommodating - when I pointed out a small problem with my window latch they fixed it straight away. The location is also great - really close to the beach and the bus stop / wharf for boat trips. The kitchen area was also lovely and clean and excellent recycling facilities in place outside.

Centabay Lodge offers budget accommodation right in the centre of Paihia. Choose from a bed in one of the spacious dormitory rooms or stay in a private room to suit your budget.

Free WiFi, a fully equipped shared kitchen, communal lounge and garden area with BBQ facilities and a hot tub are all included. Free limited on-site parking is also available. Guests can play table tennis and darts in the hostel games room (during low season) or ask the tour desk about nearby activities such as kayaking, cycling and hiking.

Centabay was my favourite hostel that I stayed at in New Zealand!!! I loved the vibrant atmosphere, the lovely backpacker-staff and the wonderful manager who was always a joy to chat with. The prices are incredibly reasonable for a place in the middle of Paihia, and you can tell the manager isn't in it for the profit - she genuinely wants to help travellers have the best experience possible. The hot tub worked well and was always great to use. The hammocks and tropical garden are another bonus. I could go on and on!

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travelers know there's no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: Save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a little more.

A very good 2 BR apartment in a great location close to restaurants, cafes, the wharves for cruises etc. Very comfortable beds, an ensuite, well set up kitchen with extras like salt & pepper, oil, coffee, tea, shampoo, conditioner and even a block of chocolate. Underground secure parking and secure apartment block & communication was very good with the hosts.

Very kind owner. Genuine kind and friendly. He takes pride of the place and their customers. Location, it is right in the middle of the town, just 2min walking from the bus stop/station and the wharf to get the ferry to Russell. Also, so convenient located near shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. Price, it was cheap. It is safe for solo travellers A bath tub outdoors and a friendly environment, couches and TV next to the kitchen, where you can interact with other travellers

Our two-bedroom apartment was perfect - clean, comfortable and in a great location, and we also had our own garage. It was wonderful to be allowed to have our dog with us. There was a lovely lawn out the front to play with the dog and although the main road and beach were just one road away, our road was quiet and safe.
