The location was superb, if you go out the door by the new towers, you are at the back of the zoloco. The Staff at the front desk and porters are beyond helpful and friendly. Lulu our room attendant excellent. On site restaurant very reasonable prices and friendly efficient servers. Also free coffee and water for hotel guest in the lobby. Little rooftop terraces on 7th floor where you can bring your coffee to enjoy. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Catedral. Oh they organized a taxi to take us to the airport and another for a trip to artisan Market.

We stayed opposite the square.
We stayed opposite the square. If you can time your visit to a national holiday. The Square comes alive. Awesome place to visit. There are more museums in Mexico City than anywhere else I have been. Book a seat on hop on hop off bus - probably need 48 hours if you want to do the main museums, or just use it as a tour guide for a quick look around. Mexico is truly a great place to spend 2 or 4 weeks. Good starting point is Mexico City. Its safe, clean and a very happy place.

This is great place to see the historic buildings.
This is great place to see the historic buildings. The church is amazing. And there are usually lots of huge interesting exhibits in the main square. The Gran hotel has a great patio restaurant and the hotel is worth a visit even if not staying - stunning lobby. There are also often street performers here or on some of the side pedestrian malls. On my very first visit there was a gentleman playing the cello who was amazing. He was shortly joined by a couple of fantastic ballet dancers who preformed for nearly an hour. Later about six opera singers joined and sang for about another 45 minutes or so. The cello player told me he had been with a major symphony in Switzerland for 20 years but wanted to come home. The quality of this talent would have left me feeling I would had got great value for my money if I had paid paid $100 for a ticket.

An impressive city square that rivals that of any other major city in the world. Don't miss the Templo Mayor ruins and museum just northeast of the cathedral. As a treat, you can watch the opening scene of James Bond 007's Spectre that was filmed in the Zocalo and other areas of the center of the city.

Zocalo is amazing, used in the Bond Spectre movie, giant flag, and surrounded by greats. The Metropolitan Cathedral (1573) is the largest in the Americas -free (pay to climb tower), Palacio Nacional with beautiful gardens festooned with friendly humming birds and free access to magnificent murals by Diego Rivera (ID required-no bags), Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico decor and stained glass and Museo del Tempo Mayor for UNESCO ruins.

Ari at the reception was very helpful. The daily breakfast buffet had American-style options, local Mexican dishes @ a live cooking station, and the Mexican coffee pot was unique with steaming brew! Loved it!
Clean and comforatble simple rooms.
Candy jar and fruity flavored water in the reception was a nice gesture.
The property is in the historic centre and a short walk to many restaurants and tourist sights. It’s also very close to various bus and train lines. It has its own restaurant where we ate one night. Breakfast starts quite late (8:30am) but the staff where kind enough to provide us with some at 8am as we had to leave early. The staff were also kind enough to tell us where we could buy tours to Teotihuacán in Zócalo Square as the hostel does not run tours on their own. We were allowed to leave our storage for no extra charge.
