We loved this ryokan and the hosts! It was definitely the highlight of our trip. Firstly, the rooms are huge, clean and warm. The beds are comfortable and there are beautiful two piece summer kimonos waiting on the bed for every guest. There is also a green tea set in every room and the host continually has kettles (thermos) with warm water ready by the reception, so you can always have a new batch if you run out of the one in your room or gets cold. The room gets cleaned every day, even our kimonos were folded and tea set replaced. There is a film- like japanese bath downstairs, which you can enjoy as a couple and have it all on your own. The host was kind and a true embodiment of the word ‘hospitality’. He made us feel at home, he spent a lot of time informing us about different places to eat, various experiences to have and has a super google map he prepared with pins in various restaurants and coffee places he recommends, which he shared with us. After Kanazawa, we wanted to visit Takefu knife village, so he spared time to call different places there to make sure it is open and to find out more information for us. He is very detailed and was very keen on making sure we felt good. He talked to us about his family and the heritage and answers sooo many of our question on Japan. I would highly recommend this ryokan, as it is the most beautiful way to get fully immersed in the japanese culture!

Rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and low furniture. Some offer beds, while other rooms come with traditional futon bedding. All rooms are fitted with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. Yukata robes are provided.

Motoyu Ishiya is a 230 year old hotel just outside of the historic city of Kanazawa. The property itself is stunning, the photos do not do this place justice. It is a very spiritual place where you can’t help but feel at peace. The staff are exceptional and accommodate English speakers to the best of their ability. The meals included are very traditional and require an open-mindedness from foreigners. I look forward to returning in the future.

Very beautiful, typical japanese ryokan, huge room with beautiful tatami and view on internal garden. The landlady is very welcoming, proactive and nice. The room had a WC and basin; the internal onsen (common bath) was very confortable, spacious and clean, with a typical hot tub. The position is very central and quiet. An excellent stay that surpassed our expectations

Wonderful Ryokan experience. Bungo was extremely helpful and explained the best sights in Kanazawa for us to visit. The room was large with a tatami floor and looked onto a beautiful garden. Yukatas were provided for walking around the Ryokan. Clean facilities and some amenities provided. The baths were able to be used by myself and my husband privately. It was about 25 minutes walk from the station and very close to Kanazawa castle gardens.

This Ryokan hotel is just next to two amazing sights: Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden. The hotel provides you yukata for men and kimono for women, and you can keep them if you like (we did!). Breakfast was good but not great. The traditional Japanese style room was excellent with a small sitting area, which was quite pleasant. The staff was excellent and made us feel quite welcome. The onsen was excellent and quite hot; the water minerally and soothing. The facility was excellent.

fantastic family run ryokan (traditional japanese inn), with a shared onsen, outstanding food, and a traditional room with tatami floors, paper wall deco and clothes to wear during the stay (not mandatory of course). The manager is very kind and paying close attention to details. We had a delicious dinner in the room (highly recommended!!) prepared by the family, with salmon, tempura, sashimi, a large prawn, miso soup, rice, fruits, and may small nipples - it's the best dinner experience we had in Japan.
