The Lily of the Lake
Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.
Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but...
We've come to Ireland six times in the past 24 years but this was our first visit to Killarney. Killarney is very low on our list of places we have been. It's too crowded and touristy for our taste and, quite frankly, the Americans there acted like jerks. (As an American, I can say that.) We stayed for two nights, but could have done with one. I wanted to go to see the Gap of Dunloe, but the major jaunting car company, Killarney Jaunting Cars, did not offer a tour unless you took their Gap of Dunloe adventure package at 115 euro a pop. It was also 115 euro to rent a jaunting car from a private driver which was too expensive. We couldn't even see Torc Waterfall because we couldn't find a place to park our car. It was ridiculous. What we did: a visit to Ross Castle and Muckross Abbey, plus a jaunting car/boat excursion in the Killarney National Forest could have been done in a day. We will not be returning to Killarney again.

So magical, sparkling clean, charming fairytale steets with shopping and pubs. Great food. Too much to see for our 1.5 day stay. Beats Disneyland! As reported from a late 1950s Orange County California native! Must find a way to come back to stay in Killarney and have the time to explore Ring of Kerry in full, Kenmare, spend time doing outdoor activities and enjoy the local horseback riding, boat rides, and so much more. What Ireland dreams are made from!!

Hotel beautiful perfect.
Hotel beautiful perfect. My wife who always traveled with me died earlier this year of MND Disease and I was visiting all the places we you to stay on our trips. As I have already said the parking ticket I got for parking in what I was led to believe was a disabled zone has put a very bad taste in my mouth. I would have to think seriously about visiting Killarney again.

We were very disappointed that the Killarney National Park visitor center and Ross Castle weren’t open and especially that there was no acknowledgement of that on their website. That was our main reason to visit Killarney. Understandable about due to weather, but the visitor center was due to renovations.

The minute we entered the hotel we were greeted by a lovely girl at reception who explained everything in detail to us. We booked dinner and this was so tasty, we were look after amazingly. We had great time at the leisure centre. The receptionist there also was so friendly and informative
Our rooms were very spacious 3 children and 1 adult staying. Food was very tasty, hot and fresh for breakfast and very reasonable rate for our stay. Located 5 mins from town centre so perfect location. Will be staying again.
Earls Court is by far the best hotel in which I have stayed in the more than 30 days I have travels in Ireland in my lifetime. The staff, the location and most of the amenities were excellent. Emer and her staff provided top quality service and treated every person as a guest, not as a customer. Our room, the The Kennelly Suite was by far the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed. I really appreciated the Jacuzzi tub after long days of walking the Irish countryside.
Staff were super friendly, made some good recommendations of where to eat/what to see and were very knowledgeable.
Breakfast was great too, buffet of cold items served by staff as needed and hot food served by staff at our table. Everything prompt and hot and didn't feel rushed.
Hotel is less than 10min walk from the town centre and feels safe enough to walk to/from. There's a Centra across the road too which is handy.
Breakfast was absolutely lovely in the family dining room! Our host was delightful. Being on a family horse farm was just what we wanted and we had a ball visiting with the animals in the barn. The location is remarkable as there is SO much to explore in the National Park, and the night life in nearby Killarney is some of the best in all of Ireland! We recommend exploring Muckross Abbey.
This was our favorite stay on our trip to Ireland! Conor and Bridget were exceptional hosts. The location was stunning, the decor was beautiful, and the breakfast was the best we’ve had in Ireland so far - everything fresh and local. Spending time in the sunroom and honor bar was so much fun and it really was only a short walk into town.
Great value option for a Killarney stay. The lobby area is stunning, excellent friendly staff and service, rooms very comfortable, with nice little touches, shower pressure was excellent. Location is close to the National Park - just opposite the Lake Hotel- with views of the mountains, and a short drive from the town centre.
Anne Marie was amazing on reception two people couldn’t make the trip last minute and Anne Marie was amazing in helping us rearrange the booking and was so helpful and kind throughout the entire stay. The hotel was in an amazing location to the town centre of Killarney and was impeccable

Had meal in restaurant in the evening. Service was quick and food was very nice.
Great value for money. Excellent facilities for a small hotel/guest house. Lovely breakfast and staff were welcoming and friendly. Great location, quiet but within walking distance of the town centre.
The staff at the Birches is amazing! They were so welcoming and helpful and went out of their way to make our staff enjoyable. This was our favorite hotel on our trip to Ireland. Thank you so much!
The location was great we could walk into the town centre about 10-15 minutes. The pool was great for the kids. The price was good for what you get. Parking at the hotel is great.
