The Duke of Wellington Wetherspoon, hotel in Minehead

The Duke of Wellington Wetherspoon is offering accommodation in Minehead. With a shared lounge, the property also features a bar and free WiFi. The units in the hotel are equipped with a kettle.

Exceptional value for money, for a double room at £76 a night, especially over a Bank Holiday weekend, when the West Somerset Railway is hosting its hugely popular steam gala. My room was spacious and reasonably well equipped, with tea and coffee in the room. Quiet too, despite being over a busy pub. Being able to just go downstairs to a restaurant for dinner or breakfast was great too, after walking miles all day! My room had an ensuite shower and bath, with plenty of hot water too. A comfortable bed and free wifi completed the picture. Key card entry to both the rooms and the access corridor was nice to see.

room was nice. Didn't get a chance for breakfast as we headed out early to walk the south west coastal path. On our check out day they made us a sandwich to go which was nice. The comforter was too warm, would of been nice to have other options like a light sheet.

Minehead is a very traditional sort of seaside resort, which is perfect if that's what you are looking for. Based mostly around the huge Butlins site and the West Somerset Railway, there's not a great deal else to do, though the surrounding countryside is pretty special. Facilities in town are what you'd expect - some takeaways, simple restaurants, touristy type shops, etc, but it's not somewhere for hard-core shoppers.

We loved the laid back atmosphere.

We loved the laid back atmosphere. The high street was busy with a diverse variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. The Victorian town is beautiful. Lots of lovely architecture, walks and a beautiful park. Also a nice beach which was a bonus. We would recommend you investigate all the little side streets for hidden gems. Also very dog friendly.

Minehead is a good beach resort and a central starting point for exploring Somerset and particularly Exmoor as a path starts a short walk from the Hotel. The West Somerset steam railway is the longest standard gauge heritage line at 21 miles taking a full hour each way through pretty well kept stations and is only a short walk along the front the hotel.

Minehead is a thriving seaside town with many individual and chain shops, eateries, coffee bars, a park and places of worship and of course the beach! It is an easy town to walk around, especially if you have a walking problem. The traffic during our stay was light fr the time of year and parking in the town was easy. It is also a very friendly place to visit.

We liked the older part of the town towards the harbour and being there out of peak season it was quiet, during the peak summer months clearly would be busier and nosier. The town is easy to get around and has plenty of parking, the old railway centre is also very good and worth a visit. We used one of the fish and chip shops in Bampton Street which was excellent and had a meal in the Hairy Dog which was good pub food. Minehead is also a good place as a base for visiting other parts of the Somerset coast and close the Exmoor. Dunster Castle is also nearby and well worth a visit.

The Waverley is a short walk from the Minehead Railway Station (now home to West Somerset Railway) and bus stop. As travellers using public transport the location is excellent and it is only a short walk to shops, cafes and hotels and the harbour. The breakfast selection is excellent and well presented. Our hosts and their staff were friendly and engaging, always smiling and willing to help in any way. Our room was large enough that we were not cramped, it was clean and comfortable with a matching large ensuite.

Staff: brilliant, very helpful Location: literally a 2 min walk from the sea front and central to amenities. Room: it was a fab sized room for us (me, a 13 year old and a 3 year old). The room was absolutely spotless and not cramped like some hotels. I couldn't fault it. If you are visiting Minehead, and need a hotel, put this at the top of your list. The breakfasts were amazing (ask for toast and you literally get the biggest slices of bread I have ever seen). Great for kids too.

The hotel is right in the heart of Minehead with all local attractions within easy reach. Free on-road parking was easy nearby. We were on the 2nd floor and the room was quiet even though the pub was really busy. We ate in the pub, food good value, best grab a table early though, as it is such a popular location. Tea making facilities are provided in the room. Bed exceptionally comfortable. Good powerful shower.

Greeted by Barry the owner (next door) who made us welcome. The self-catering apartment was very clean and roomy and included 2 en-suite bedrooms with an additional separate toilet. It has a large unclutered living room/lounge and a well equipped kitchen with dining area. Short level walk to reach all Minehead attractions. Good off road parking at the rear of the apartment was always available.

Such a beautiful clean, quiet and well presented hotel. Came here with my husband and dog for a short break. Beautiful room with period furniture, windows and curtains and huge modern bathroom. Perfect for a relaxing break a short mile walk along tree lined roads with old traditional houses and gardens to Minehead centre. Could not recommend this hotel and the welcoming staff more.

Good location, a short walk from the centre of town and to the seafront. The hotel staff are very friendly and evidently exceptionally competent and committed to doing the best job they possibly can. Room was a little dated but was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. Excellent value for money, especially considering I booked only two days prior to arriving.

Probably one of the best B&B's I have ever stayed in!. The owners, Sharon & Paul were a delightful couple, very friendly and welcoming and their attention to detail would put a five star hotel to shame and the breakfast was amazing. This accommodation should be a role model for hotel training.
