Kyoto is the previous capital of Japan, so it has numerous historical places to visit. The mixture of tradition and modern technology makes the trip even more interesting. English is used in many public places like trains, buses, street signs, etc. Therefore, you would not come into challenges because of the language. Kyoto is a touristic place, and there are many attractions which you could easily find through internet and google maps. Night life of Kyoto is amazing. You can find many restaurants and clubs to go during the night. A host of temples and shrines exist in Kyoto. Fushimi Inari was amazing. Bamboo forest was very good, but do not spend all of a morning/afternoon there. I liked the market of Kyoto as well. I found the prices lower than Osaka and Tokyo. As I mentioned, I also visited Osaka, Nara, and Tokyo, but I found Kyoto more interesting than these cities. Kyoto has its own traditional structure rather than these modern cities.

Beautiful city that allows you to explore and learn about Japan's history and culture. The pace of life is slower than Tokyo and the people are more open for a conversation. It seems that Kyoto is facing challenges in accommodating the significant influx number of tourists, as it was very difficult for us to find available restaurant for dinner. Most are either reserved out or have long waiting line every single night.

Kyoto is so crowded !
Kyoto is so crowded ! Unfortunately it lost the charm I’m assuming it used to have because you are swimming through CROWDS of bodies (like at Disney World) I would go back to Japan in a heartbeat but probably not to Kyoto. There are so many other stunning places in Japan that haven’t been ruined by tourism yet. Japan is an incredible country…..probably one of my favorites in the whole world. It’s just Kyoto that is too crazy

The AOI hotel we stayed in was AWSOME!
The AOI hotel we stayed in was AWSOME! Strongly recommend it. Beds were extremely comfortable, 12 ft ceiling allowed for cooled atmosphere, the room was spacious and had absolutely everything that a traveller would need, including a magnifying makeup mirror. Also a delicate music was provided via an iPad. Everyday the cleaning service was provided which made the room immaculate over and over. The bathroom facility was spectacular, with rainforest shower head and a shampoo, body wash, conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, hairbrush etc provided. The artwork was of an excellent taste and matched the ambiance of the room. First class service.

Kyoto has much to offer for anyone wanting to experience both history and culture. The city is very walkable. It is also relatively flat so perfect for anyone wanting to explore by bicycle. For those interested in sampling different foods the food stalls provide opportunities to try so many Japanese delicacies.

It was my first city on the Japan 2-week trip, followed by Nara, Osaka, and Tokyo. I felt it has a great balance of historical sites, food options, pleasant riverside, and modern areas around the Kyoto station.
It was a bit overcrowded even in May, I can imagine the crowds during cherry season.
I skipped some main touristy points like the bamboo forest and the Golden Sth temple as by the reviews they seemed a bit overhyped.
I would suggest 2-3 nights for optimal stay, or more if going on day trips to Uji and Nara.
Great location a few minutes from Kyoto Station. Super clean, the room is small but that's everywhere in Japan, they provide amenities like towels, body sponge and the best is a perfectly pijama you can wear on your stay that makes you feel the most comfortable.
Staff is very kind, they let you keep the bags in the hotel after checkout but no receipt of it eitherway we didn't have any issue and our bags were perfectly fine when we came back.
There is free ice, water and one laundry machine for an small additional charge
Beautiful Ryokan in the middle of Kyoto, walking distance to popular districts while having a relaxing location. The staff were beyond welcoming and made us feel at home. They provided traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner which was delicious. Sleeping in the traditional Japanese tatami beds was one of the best sleeps I've had, they provided pyjamas and yakata/robes to wear around the hotel. It was like a well serviced and welcoming BnB. I definitely would stay here again and wish I had stayed longer than 2 days.
The location is great - right in the Gion and surrounded by little restaurants, winding narrow lanes of traditional houses, and close to many good temples. Some of the best restaurants are nearby - must book months ahead, however. Hotel was very cool and contemporary, and a great value. Room was very small, so if you have tons of luggage, maybe not for you. The public bath was a beautiful, and well-designed smaller version, with very modern surfaces and lighting. Well worth visiting.
This place honestly felt like luxury and was one of the best priced hostels we stayed at in Japan. New, modern facilities with plenty of space and very comfy beds. The rooms are small but fit us just fine and for the price they were a steal. There’s luggage storage downstairs if you don’t want your bag in your room, and free comfy loungewear you can wear around the hotel between showers & the bathroom. The staff was very professional and kind Loved it & would recommend!
First of all, I liked it that it was just outside one of the metro stations. It was absolutely the best location. The staff was extremely kind and responsive. The room was beautifully equipped, and had a magnificent view of the east side of Kyoto with all its beautiful shrines and temples.
Everything in the room worked beautifully. The hotel century located, and he was easy to reach any of the sites that I had in mind to visit.
An excellent experience overall !
The room was very comfortable. The hotel itself is very well located really close to the train station (only a 5 minute walk). The facilities were amazing and it was so nice to be able to come back to the hotel after walking around Kyoto and use the onsen even late at night. The hotel offers free ice-cream, coffees, and even ramen. If you're staying, make sure to book the breakfast. It's probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever eaten, and has so much choice
Seriously best hotel we booked in all of Japan, and we booked 3 before this. Staff went the extra extra mile, very clean and authentic Japanese experience. It was also the biggest hotel we've been to. Location was good from the station, to the main shopping district is a little far but overall amazing experience. If you don't mind travelling like 20 minutes by bus to the shopping district (we didnt) then it's phenomenal location
The location is perfect. Hotel Kuu is so close to everything. 10 minutes walk to Kyoto Station. 2 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop. Lots of restaurants nearby. The best part is the public bath. It was so relaxing to soak yourself in the hot water after a long day's walk. The outside pool is built of volcanic rocks from Mountain Fuji. That water is magic. It makes your skin so smooth.
Loved the customer service! Location was perfect for us: at walking distance from train station (15min), from city center (20min), from old town (30min). There is also underground stops at just 5 and 10min walk from the hotel. Although the best thing was the breakfast! It wasn't extensive but this made it easy and quick to grab and was actually very complete, with great quality food
This is the best accommodation I've stayed in during my one-month travel journey. No doubt all Japanese hotels are exceptionally clean, but this one is more than clean; it feels brand new and fresh. The location is perfect, with the station within 100 meters. Facilities are great, Coffee library , Coin Laundry inside the hotel. Highly recommended
Traditional ryokan hotel with onsens.
Very close to station, easy walk & opposite large Buddhist temple complex. The opportunity to enjoy a traditional dinner was not to be missed in a private dining room, served by the cook who had taken 2 hours to prepare it. The use of translate app gave us the information we needed.
Perfectly located in the heart and soul of Kyoto, Gion is one of the city's best-preserved historic areas and a great place for experiencing traditional Kyoto. The staff at Gion Ryokan Q-Beh is freindly. The place is clean, light cooking at the kitchen is allowed, coin operated laundry is also available at the hotel.
The owner of the hotel is very friendly and gave us the best local tips for food. From the hotel you can walk to gion district, nishiki market and ponchoto alley which is really nice! The room is very small but for us it was oke. It's very clean and quiet, which was really nice. Bathrooms and toilets are clean!
Location location and location, while the facilities are great and nothing to complain about, this hotels main advantage and selling point is its proximity to local attractions.
Lovely boutique hotel with nice staff and best location. I like the way it's tucked into the side street, like it's hidden away.
The ryokan was beautiful and very clean. The best I've ever stayed in. Perfect location to walk to Gion, Nishiki Market, and surrounding stations. The staff were very very helpful, welcoming and friendly. Room service was every day and my brother and I loved the hinoki bath tub.
Great value for money. One of the best 4-star hotels we've ever stayed. Excellent services, very clean, polite staff, nice facilities. Good location next to the train station. In total a very comfortable experience in the beautiful city of Kyoto.
Well-designed cozy room with a small Japanese corner. Lobby lounge with free coffee and small snacks is the best. Great location within a 5min walk to Pontocho Street. Subway station is right next to the hotel.
