Location was excellent for Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves visit! We could walk to a lovely (and very yummy) coffee shop each morning and a fun brew pub at night. There were other restaurants on the street, but one was having a private party and another was fully booked.
If you’re looking for super luxury travel vibe, it’s very hard to find in this area, my friend who is a pretty posh gal was a bit worried. However the Broadway Motel was IMMACULATELY clean, spacious, and very welcoming. We both were very please and highly recommend it!

Centrally located town of the North Island worth an overnight stop for lots of sightseeing spots nearby and good eateries. We recommend Hobbiton to anyone, even if you are not a fan of the movie series. It is a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. Also do not miss the unique Blue Spring in Putaruru.
The township of Matamata has many drinking and eating options for all budgets and some really nice places are reasonably priced.

We visited specifically to visit Hobbiton, this was a perfect stay for this purpose. We had a great meal at The Redoubt, although if eating on a Wednesday evening it helps if you enjoy Country and Western music. Pretty much everything was in walking distance. The area is really well looked after

Great place to unwind and just chill.
Great place to unwind and just chill. Handy to Rotorua and Tauranga too. If you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities but with all the essentials, Matamara is the place to be.

We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock.
We loved our stay at A Place In the Paddock. It was just what it says. A beautifully appointed 3 bedroom house with room for family and friends right in the middle of a working dairy farm. We all enjoyed our stay. We visited the nearby Okoroire Hot Springs in Tirau close by. The are beautiful natural thermal pools in the bush. A must do.
The Walnut Lodge B&B was amazing! The hosts were extremely nice and helpful! They baked fresh bread for us everyday for breakfast, and even offered archery lessons! The rooms were spacious, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. It’s location is great for visiting Hobbiton, going out to eat in Matamata, and venturing to Auckland or Rotorua. We booked both rooms offered at this location, which provided us with a private experience with our group of people! It was perfect for our stay.
The customer service was exceptional thanks Tony and Diane! Even at 12pm! I really enjoyed how comfortable the bed was when we stayed and all the extras and finer details that you have thought about and put into the motel. Small quirks like being able to book a private spa free of charge and even just having the bit of grass there for kids to run around or play games. Most motels would have taken the opportunity to build more rooms and overall it was just a nice place to stay!
Absolute gem of a place just on the outskirts of Matamata. If you want a quiet and comfortable stay when you are visiting the area I would 100% recommend it. The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. We didn't have a car and were offered lifts to the centre which was very much appreciated. The room itself is extremely homely, with a modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen area. To top it off you open the room doors onto a lovely pool and seating area.
Excellent detail to the little things when added up make this stay a delightful and top drawer experience. Glenn and Mark are fabulous hosts who are easy to connect with and provided us with several ideas for places to see. I highly recommend a stay there to experience first hand the amenities that await you.
The drive into Matamata takes five minutes with only two turns, one of which is out the driveway, for you drivers used to right hand driving.
We really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful location of Jen and Dowie’s Airbnb. The story of how they built the house without nails is amazing and we appreciated the craftsmanship and how homey and comfortable the barn is. They are wonderful hosts and provide amazing food and conversation. We also really appreciated Jen making calls for us and recommending restaurants. We will hoped be able to go back to one of our favorite Airbnbs.
Mia and Michael are very awesome and friendly host. The fact that they build the apartment on their own and make it so cozy, clean, and nicely decorated for guest just shows how sincere they are. Mia's homemade bread is awesome, breakfast was awesome too! The house is cleaner than hotel! i was very stoked that this is the best accommodation that I've been in NZ, better and cleaner and more comfortable than hotel!
We were absolutely blown away by Kylie's hospitality and loved every minute of our stay in Matamata. It truly is a 10/10 location. The house is very clean, decorated with great attention to detail. We even got a lovely surprise, given it was our honeymoon. This place was a highlight on our trip to New Zealand. Highly recommend!
The location to the shops and restaurants was great. There was a kitchen we could use to make tea and coffee at breakfast. the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean. there was a fan provided in our room. Although the hotel wasn’t fancy, overall we were happy.
The hosts were very friendly and informative upon arrival. The room was exactly what we needed for our short stay, and the breakfast was a lovely treat! I would definitely recommend this property for anyone exploring Matamata. Only 15 mins from Hobbiton too
Lovely and spacious stay with comfy beds, a nice shower, and room to stretch out. Great central location in Matamata. Arrival instructions were very clear and self check in was easy. Wonderful value, makes me wish we'd had time to stay there longer!
So cute and comfortable!!! Delicious home made bread and fresh eggs for breakfast. It was so relaxing being out on a farm next to goats. And we had a delicious Italian dinner in Matamata. Super close to Hobbiton!! Thanks for a great night!
Great place to stay. Hosts very friendly. Great breakfast supplied. Very close to Hobbiton - the reason for our stay. Matamata a short drive away for a selection of wonderful eateries.
Great position to enjoy Matamata. Comfortable accommodation and friendly staff service. Great food at restaurant with reasonable prices. Thanks for having us.
A place in the Paddock is a lovely space on a farm just outside of Matamata- there is a small museum on property- the space is clean, quiet and just lovely!
