Everything! This is one of the best hotels in Portugal, and positive the hotel with better staff. It's unbelivable the staff effort to make us feel at home. And that's how we felt! The food, the live músic, the room, the increbidle swimming pool, the walking tour with Rodrigo!

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was pretty wet so we didn't do much walking. Enjoyed a Cheese-tasting evening, visits to the Thermal Baths and quick visits to the 2 wool factories. There's a surprising amount to do and see, we loved it.

A small town in the mountains.
A small town in the mountains. When visiting some places nearby one needs to be cautious about the roads as many mountain roads are pretty narrow even for small cars and one may need to reverse in case of traffic coming from in front. During off-season periods many Restaurants are closed.

If you love long hikings, walks, the mountains you are in the right place. There you can really have great hiking sessions and walks. For the real deal you will need a guide and I highly recommend that you make a whole day Jeep Tour with lunch. This kind of programm is something that you don't want to miss in this area of Serra da Estrela. This is a place that you need to take the correct equipment for walking and hiking, the right shoes etc. It can rain a lot so you need proper waterproof clothing. It can get really cold there, so under waterproof clothing you need functional skin breathing active clothing. For the walks and hikings I do not recommend any clothing around cotton or woole. This location is great for active people and active families who love the nature and the amazing views that you can get there. They have there in Manteigas few restaurants, but keep in mind that it is a small village, so I would not recommend a stay larger than 1 week.

Manteigas is a not a place most tourists seem to hear about and, surprisingly, not a place which many Portuguese from the South of Portugal seem to visit. The variety of things to do in the area are wonderful. Whether you like winter sports of skiing and snow-shoeing to bicycling, fishing, camping, hiking in the Spring, Summer or Fall there are any number of activities year-round.

This place was such a pleasant surprise, despite a couple of white knuckle moments navigating the rather narrow and winding road leading down to the town from the main mountain road. The roads in Manteigas are much narrower than what we’re used to, but it’s relatively easy to get around if you take it slow. Enjoyed some excellent local cheese, charcuterie and wine at Queijaria Manteigas. Don’t miss the tour of the Burel Woolen factory, which is very interesting. Their gift shop has something for everyone.
A lovely B&B in Manteigas, in the middle of the amazing Serra da Estrela, managed by two fantastic hosts. Daniela and Paulo love what they are doing and gave us a lot of useful information and tips on the places to visit and the trails to follow during our stay.
The room was just perfect, with a stunning view on the mountains and a delicious homemade breakfast that gave us a perfect start of the day.
Casa Mariolas is definitely worth the visit!
We look forward to visit them again very soon.
Very stylish, clean and cosy hotel with a great vibe. The surrounding nature is beautiful, and the stay at the hotel was very relaxing. The spa facilities are lovely, and the dinner was amazing. The staff hit the right spot in terms of “the little extra” (e.g. our bed was made every evening, when we came back from dinner!). We would recommend it to anyone looking for a mountain get away in Portugal!
This hotel is the perfect base for three days of walking in the surrounding hills. The view from the room puts you in the right frame of mind then the hearty breakfast sets you up for an active day. Everything was calean and tidy. The tourist information office next to the hotel have a complete catalogue of well illustrated local walks.
From our entrance, the staff was welcoming. The view from our room was beautiful. The beds were pretty comfy. The breakfast was delicious - the bread basket and jam and cheese was great. Parking was easy. The decorations for Christmas were gorgeous, very well done! The hotel is situated close to some visit-worthy villages and sights.
The rooms are very clean and elegantly decorated, with a combination of old Portuguese architevture and shick modern design. Breakfast was great and the Manteigas is beautiful. Elsa (the owner) is funny and welcoming and equipped with an abundance of travel knowledge about portugal and is more than happy to share it!
Modern clean lines. Spacious well equipped rooms, Excellent views across the valley. Lovely kind and friendly staff. Exceptional breakfast.
Don’t forget to visit the Ecola woollen factory in town, as the hotel is the historic location of the wool processing and wool garments; and carries that theme throughout.
It had a parking garage (but we had to pay for it) and the room was comfortable once we got another key to keep the power on! Until then, the room was so cold. The hotel staff were very helpful and nice. The breakfast buffet was good. The girl that made the eggs was very sweet and made a great omelette.
Rustic and quiet, with outdoor gardens and an outdoor patio for eating meals. No Wi-Fi, but I enjoyed the retreat. The host left a key for us and it was easy to get in. It is quite a steep walk down into Manteigas, but we were there to walk and hike and it was perfectly located for that!
Very nice guest house with common kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Breakfast and snacks were very generous and delicious. Hosts were very friendly and patient with our language differences.
Great place to stay to explore the Serra Estrela mountains, which were beautiful!
Lovely hotel - clean, spacious and comfortable, with ample parking for a group of motorcycles. Extremely friendly and accommodating hosts. Very good breakfast. Perfect location for continuing our journey the next day over the hills to Covilha and beyond.
The building is old and full of character. Large rooms and large comfy beds. Manteigas is also the most beautiful village we visited in Portugal, set in the mountains with narrow streets and small interesting shops.
gorgeous period hotel, you feel like staying in a castle. Nice room with fridge. all very clean. plentiful breakfast with lots of variety and homemade goodies. didn’t get to use the pool as it was raining.
Warm and inviting hotel in a truly beautiful setting. By far the friendliest and most welcoming hosts I have ever known. I could not recommend staying here enough, and I will definitely be coming back.
The booking in system was a little awkward since the hotel was some distance from the actual accommodation, but the staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful.
Very cute hotel built in a ski-resort style. Decent sized rooms that are clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpfull. Breakfast was a real highlight.
