Porto was a great place to visit and we enjoyed every minute of our stay!
Getting around by cab was a nightmare but as an 85 year old, I was not inclined to walk too much so all was well.
We ate in many different places and all were good including the hotel dining room and the bar!

First night stayed in a hotel 5 minutes toestiva Quay, riverside restaurants and main town. Dinner at a restaurant behind front line at half the price. Second night (after Douro cruise and stay in Régua and return by train) stayed in a hotel near Compahna station half the price with easy access by train to Porto centre. Preference dependent on your itinerary. Would do it all again.

Viewed all the recommended sites in two days.
Viewed all the recommended sites in two days. Food and drink was good value. Filled the remaining days with Duró Valley Wine trip, Matosinhos and Guimaraes trips.
Local buses and metro were excellent, connecting wherever you stay to the centre or airport.
Next time we won’t stay in the centre because of better value outside and travel in as we need!

We stayed in Porto for 5 days and were very sad to leave.
We stayed in Porto for 5 days and were very sad to leave. While there we took a day trip to the Douro Valley, to visit a winery, and take a short boat ride. The area is gorgeous and well worth visiting. We also enjoyed Museu de Serralves, and Parque de Serralves. The gardens are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the sunset from different locations. The best part of Porto are the people! They are very gracious, and welcoming.
Getting around Porto is easy! We walked almost everywhere. The hills are steep, but very doable. We took cabs for sites outside of the city. They are very affordable.
I hope to go back to Porto and explore more of northern Portugal.

Lovely city but try to avoid to pick days that's raining...
Lovely city but try to avoid to pick days that's raining every day. If it stops and starts it's ok but If the rain is non-stop for hours we might end up on a Sunday with many places closed under a tent for 30 mins because all the uber/bolt are taken, like we did. Dont thing the umbrella will do you any good. The rain arrives horizontally in this city as it does in Lisbon. The city is pretty and it has a lot of character. The wineries are an interesting experience but not so value for money, at least the one we went. The wine tour guide didn't know much except for what she learned by hard (ex. she didn't know that Port and Madeira are both fortified wines)

Nice town with specific architecture and beautiful sight-...
Nice town with specific architecture and beautiful sight-seeing spots. The river is amazing from the upper bridge. Good wine and fado. Plus a lot of sun ... Portuguese people are so kind and welcoming too :)
From the moment you arrive you are met with friendly and welcoming staff. Taking care of the car, a tour of the hotel and gorgeous rooms. The breakfast was exceptional! The shampoo, soap and everything else used in the rooms smell so good and are of a high quality.
The view is gorgeous and it is peaceful. It almost makes you forget that you are in a city for a moment.
The reception go out of their way to assist and they do make you fé welcome. Overall from all the hotels we stayed in in Portugal, this was by far the best!
It's a really lovely hotel - with character yet modern. Is on one of the main central streets and almost everything you may want to do in Porto is within a 10-15 min walking distance from here. Despite being on a busy street, it's actually very peaceful and quiet in the rooms.
The staff however were just exceptional - nothing was too much, they were really friendly and helpful with plenty of suggestions and tips on what to do and what to see around Porto. Was our favourite stay in a 2 week trip in Portugal.
Great location and space. Comfortable, modern, and well decorated. Next to the park. Amazing little balcony, and great living room. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one in-suite). Great interaction with host. Walkable to downtown and a lot of locations, and everything is a cheap Uber away. Portugal is an Uber paradise. Ubers are very cheap and immediately available. The apartment is a 6-euro Uber ride from/to the Porto Campanha train station. The Lello bookstore is a 4-minute walk from the apartment.
It was our first check-in process (out of 4) in Portugal and it was seamless. We used some Portuguese and some English and it was fine. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was amazing, huge variety from 0 carb to max carb, vegan/veggie to carnivore. Best of all was the location; it was pretty much central to everything we did in Porto and exiting the front door takes you on to a pedestrian only street with shops and cafes that is almost always streaming with people.
The location was great and staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was not nearly as good as what we’ve had at other hotels in Spain and Portugal. The ‘windows’ were covered with a plastic film, for privacy, I assume , but only opened from the top a small amount, so you could not see out, tho they opened into an air shaft that transmitted noise from other rooms, and you couldn’t see what the weather was like. It made the rooms feel dark.
They have wireless charger, strong rain feel shower (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and body wash), breakfast, very nice lobby privately toilet, the lighting in our room so beautiful, I like the separation of the shower, toilet and sink, tissues, location is walkable to tourist attractions, and robot customer service. Other hotels we stays in Portugal doesn’t have tissues in the room.
The staff was always polite, professional and helpful. Installations are good and well maintained. The location is very good if you want to stay outside of the noisy and busy center but still a few minutes away by car/taxi and it has a manageable walking distance.
The hotel has a totally normal, safe and good parking - a rarity in Portugal - and we were given 3 days free of charge.
We were looking for a good value hotel for our last night in Portugal and Pao de Acucar was ideal for this. Location was great, near the main train station with good metro and bus connections. Easy to walk down to the river. Room was bigger than we were expecting and the shower was great. The receptionist who greeted us was very helpful and spoke excellent English.
The location was excellent--So close to everything! Every single staff member was exceedingly kind and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. The always open roof terrace was perfect with its panoramic views of Porto. Everything was absolutely wonderful and sleek and clean. This was the best hotel we stayed in while travelling Spain and Portugal.
Clean, very fresh, nice smell.. I was feeling that came to the place made with love. At home has everything needed, FULLY equipped for life, I could live there with pleasure for a Month )) Has secured parking. I'm very happy and recommend to everyone (families as well). If will come back to Portugal again I will definitely stay there again.
This is so far the most comfortable stay in Portugal after 10-days of travelling and 5 different accommodations.
Our room is spacious and has a wonderful view on the city Center. The room is cozy and stylish, bed and shower is amazing… all make us feel like in a 4-star hotel.
The location is really center, 5 min walk to the Flores Street.
Our favourite stay of our Portugal holiday - the apartment is beautiful inside with an art deco feel to the design. We wanted to stay in the apartment for longer because of its homely and comforting feel. Sitting outside on the balcony showcases how well located the apartment is - it is in the best spot for everything Porto has to offer.
Best location of all the places we stayed on our 12 day journey across Portugal. We had a view of the Douro river right from our room. The staff were so very helpful and friendly, just lovely really. Breakfast was wonderful…with an abundance of the most delicious fresh fruit! We would DEFINITELY stay here again.
Very helpful and kind hosts. The hotel is located on a street on good place for walks around the city, close to metro and next door from a good restaurant. Room was clean and well furnished. Breakfast was tasty, on an outdoor porch. Overall a very good introduction to Portugal which made our stay awesome.
the location is excellent.we ate at several restaurants close by which were excellent.the room was very comfortable and clean. the reception staff was EXCELLENT,the best out of four hotels we stayed at inSpain and Portugal. they always had a smile and were very, very helpful.
This was our second stay at Maria's lovely apartment (Our trip to Portugal consisted of a stay in Porto, then Lisbon then back to Porto)
It was nice to know we were returning to somewhere we knew would be comfortable and relaxed.
This place is fantastic. Location is perfect. The staff were all super helpful and friendly. The room was wonderful. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Portugal. I cannot recommend this place enough. Book it now!!!
