Steinenschanze Stadthotel is less than 5 minutes' walk from Basel's city center and the university, close to historical buildings and the old town. The staff was really helpful and friendly. They took time to explain to do simple things like give directions. We also traveled with a pet, and they went out of their way to make it easy, setting out a blanket, and a bowl, and giving us options on rooms to make our stay the most comfortable.

If you up for a smaller and more individual hotel, give it a try. The service was from begin to end exceptional, and yes, I was lucky to get a room upgrade which of course added value. Great restaurant included, even a Michelin star one if you are a foody and book early

Everything about the Hotel Accommodation, 10/10 room, bed, sheets & pillows made for a great night sleep, location, breakfast was fantastic & especially the staff accommodated all our needs. We appreciated the time taken to make our stay wonderful, as we were international family we felt safe at all times. We all participated in the River Rhine swim, staff provided extra bags to do so, with the fast currents which was a highlight of our stay. Thankyou!

Occupying a medieval building next to the historic Spalen Gate, this 3-star hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Basel’s Old Town. Wi-Fi is free of charge. The hotel was well located, only a short walk from the old town, very nice and clean hotel, great room, good facilities and friendly staff.

The location--a short walk to grocery stores, tram stops, the Rhine, and the famous Basler Art Museum--is wonderful. A city tax, payable upon check-in, rewards guests with an unlimited tram/bus ticket for free travel on the entire Basel public transportation network. The apartment, accessible by elevator, was quiet and spacious, including a balcony with seating, a large bedroom with generous storage space, and a larger sitting room and full-equipped kitchen area. Re-charging outlets for electronic devices next to the nightstands were convenient. The shower/bathtub and sink are in one room, a toilet and tiny sink in another. We especially liked the superior body and shampoo liquid soaps. All the fixtures are very modern. There is a washer and dryer in a hallway room nearby.

Set very close to banks of the River Rhine, this designer hostel is next to the old city gate of St. Alban. The youth hostel building is beautifully designed and a pleasure to use. Staff were very helpful , our room was small but nice , and the food was great
