Amazing bamboo forest 10 mins cycling towards village, empty re people....beats any bamboo groove in Kyoto, absolutely STUNNING!!!!! We bought food and cooked at the house. Lots of fresh beef !!!! I can't rate this place highly enough............we stayed end of November, so also had wonderful colours of autumn leaves. We were met at the station, taken to the house and explained in perfect English, how to operate heating, door locks etc...... The owner then took us back to the station....and what surprised us was, he waited till we got into the station and waved us goodbye. 👋 Perfection 🥰 💞 🥰 to the end of a most memorable stay we will never forget. Perfect location to visit the countryside of Japan. This is the real Japan with Koi carpers swimming in river-like gutters and friendly helpfull villagers. On top of this, Kyoto is only half an hour away by train. We came for a nice, relaxing place to stay but got a family who was so warm and welcoming. Mizu, the hostess of Smile guesthouse is a very kind and helpful person who speaks good English. She helped and guided us to make our stay even better. The guest house is a traditional Japanese house. Beautiful and full of details. And next to that you can eat fresh strawberries at the Tanaberry farm, which is a 8 minutes walking distance. We can recommend everyone to stay here. As we immediately extended our stay the day we arrived and are planning to definitely stay again the next time we travel to Japan.

The trip to the bathroom during the night was somewhat difficult for us. The bedroom was on the upper floor in the lovely traditional Japanese house. The narrow stairway was challenging for us. There is ample room downstairs and perhaps owners would accommodate a request to put the bedding there.

A very quiet traditional home in. remote hinterland of Biwako. Kuniyo-san was very nice, welcoming and friendly. Her cooking was amazing, totally delicious and beautiful washoku. when I asked for vegetarian washoku, she made me amazing dishes with local ingredients. She even dropped me off to the train station. Totally recommended!

It really did feel like staying at my grandparents house in Japan. The staff were so friendly, kind and intentional and the food prepared for us in the morning was phenomenal.
