Soramachi was a very comfortable house with good facilities. Probably the most spacious and nicest accomodation we experienced in our travels through Japan. Only stayed 2 nights but it provided a relaxing and quiet break from the crowds elsewhere. The house is right on the river and close to a tranquil temple walk and public bathhouse . It is an easy walk from there to the old quarter and we walked to the house with luggage from the station ( 1.4 km). The owners are obviously very house proud and welcoming. Highly recommend this accomodation.

Takayama City, Takayama
The air-conditioned villa consists of 2 bedrooms, 4 living rooms, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and a coffee machine, and 1 bathroom with a bidet and a hair dryer. The villa offers bed linen, towels and housekeeping service. The building itself, as you can see from the pictures, is exquisite. If you are a fan of architecture or traditional craftsmanship, you will delight at just BEING in Taniya. This was almost a problem—I'm used to thinking of a hotel as a "crash pad" while exploring, and instead I wanted to spend hours and hours inside! Each morning was calm and peaceful: make a cup of green tea, then observe the way the light plays through the washi, the sound of water rushing by. I also particularly loved the bath; one of my favorite memories was enjoying it on a rainy, chilly night. We got home from dinner, I used the auto-fill function while I got ready for bed, then opened the window onto the courtyard and stepped in. Watching the moon through the rain, maple leaves, and steam curling up from the bath... it's like having your own personal onsen. Plus, each item in the villa was thoughtfully chosen, from the local sakes on offer in the fridge to the items provided in the bathroom to the super-soft pajamas. Even better were our hosts, who exemplified the Japanese concept of "omotenashi" (essentially, "hospitality" taken to its highest level). Well before arrival we were working with the Taniya concierge to make our plans happen (many thanks to Mahiro!). She handled making reservations at our desired restaurants and travel around town was provided as needed. Where she truly excelled was helping us troubleshoot our more ambitious ideas, such as: is there an open-air onsen near the Shinhotaka Ropeway with private baths? And how do we get there and back? The Kusakabe family were also gracious and friendly hosts, helping us along with the concierge and sharing their knowledge of Japan and Takayama plus their personal history—talking with them and touring the Folk Crafts Museum was a particular highlight, as many of the items on display are Kusakabe family heirlooms.
Hida Takayama Onsen, Takayama
The villa features 2 bedrooms, a flat-screen TV, a fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom with a hot tub. This villa also provides guests with a patio that doubles up as an outdoor dining area. The property offers inner courtyard views. There was a sudden heavy snow and our car was stuck in the snow. Our arrival time turned out to be almost 12am, we have messaged and informed the host, she was really kind, she stayed up and waited for us. She helped us to call the car rental service to make alternate arrangements and suggested safer routes for us to go Shirakawago the next day and route to return to Tokyo. House was spacious and clean, especially recommend for families.

We stayed two nights for visiting Tamayaka and Shirakawa-go. It was a perfectly located hotel directly at the station. Very clean and equipped with everything you need. Small Onsen was very nice to relax and heat up after a long day. Also town center, convenient stores and restaurants within walking distance. All in all I would choose this hotel again. Only downside was the breakfast
Next to train and bus station, staff were exceptional. Very clean rooms, breakfast was amazing.
It is very clean & surprisingly with delicious provided which is a bonus of the stay!
Defenitely one of the best places we have been to during our travels. The host is great :-) many thanks Octavio for the warm welcome, you made us feel at home - cosy, warm rooms, welcoming with nice special treats, very clean, close to beautiful temples in a nice, quite residential area. We would love to come back one day!
The hotel and room were very clean and spacious. A little outdated, but everything looked neat. The onsen on the balcony was nice and the Japanese breakfast was good. We only stayed one night because of the snowfall and didn’t want to get stuck in the mountains. The hotel is quite remote, so make sure to check the weather forecast.
Very clean rooms and common areas. Excellent and friendly service. Very well located, next to the bus and train station.
Location was great. Rooms spacious and very clean. Great steam room and spa. Reasonable breakfast and good free coffee in afternoon and evenings.
The guesthouse is charming and the staff friendly and professional. All private and communal spaces were very clean.
The location couldn't be better. The hotel is small, stylish ,clean and it feels homey. Our room was simple, yet spacious & comfy with a view over the mountains. The shared showers & toilets were very clean.
Nice location just few minutes away by foot from the train/bus station, Cosy shared-room, very nice staff, lot of information available, friendly guests, very clean, one tidying box available per guest.
