Positive: Skyrail and historic train, nature, pool in Cairns, boardwalk, Botanical Gardens (absolute highlight!!!). Don't miss Emerald Creek Ice Creamery - lots of varieties and very yummy! Dundee's restaurant offered outstanding food and an incredible venue with a massive fish tank to look at while dining, it's pricey, but worth it. The Daintree is as exciting as ever. Solar Whisper Croc Cruise was really good. Daytrip to Atherton Tablelands was lovely. Rusty's market is a must! Only downside of Cairns: dining is fairly expensive in general.

We went at the start of the dry season. The weather was very warm but still humid. Cairns central has great public facilities. The swimming lagoon is fantastic for all ages and has surf lifesavers in attendance. BBQ cookers all along the Esplanade, excellent playgrounds. Muddy Waters in particular, the kids went crazy. Of course you go for the reef trips and the train trip and the Skyrail up to Kuranda village. A lovely day out in beautiful rainforest. Port Douglas and Mossman are a drive north if you have the time, they are another must see in this scenic part of north Queensland. They could raise their star rating if they cared to invest in renovation., The lady at the front desk was very friendly;y. Excellent location. You may not need a rented car if you stay in the central location. We stayed here for 5 days. Went to Great Barrier Reef, Green Island, Used the sky rail to go to Kurandra and came back by Scenic Rail. Snorkling at both Green Island and Great Barrier Reef was too good.VivekAustralia
