You won't find yourself driving 10 miles down the same winding road every day to finally reach a connecting route. If you have children, the proximity to Audrix (swimming park, night markets, and horseback riding) are ideal. Saint Cyprien, Coux, and Siorac (all 3-5 miles driving) have all restaurants, bars, morning and evening markets, and supermarkets that you need. Many feel that staying in or near Sarlat is the prime location but Sarlat is located at the eastern side of the valley. We adore Sarlat, but Saint Cyprien, in our opinion, is more central. Watch out the traffic in Sarlat during July and August can be dreadful! Still, reaching Sarlat from our gîte is only 25 minutes and a lovely drive along the hillside ridge, or through the valley.

We bought this gîte in 2012 from the couple next door. They had operated it as a gîte for 10 years before retiring. We have updated the property significantly since then, with a new kitchen, bathroom, floors, and artwork. We added wifi and flatscreens, crepe makers and a stainless fridge. Outside we have added stone features and cleared the view. We spend time each summer there ourselves, so we know how to make it comfortable and inviting. Most of all, we enjoy it as a respite from the urban California lifestyle we experience most of the year. It is a place we can count on to renew our natural and rustic spirits, appreciate a simpler life--birds, roosters, and farmer's market dinners--and we hope you can enjoy it for the same reasons we do! The Dordogne is one of the most visited regions of France. It is very typical to stay for a week or more in a holiday cottage, or "gîte". The area is known for its castles and many medieval towns that line the Dordgone and Vezere rivers. Also it is famous for the numerous caves and grottoes, rich in pre-history drawings and carvings, not to mention minerals, stalagmites, and stalactites. The morning and evening markets feature the famous Perigord cuisine, including specialties foie gras, truffles, duck confit, and wild boar. Since the climate is sunny and soil is rich, the local produce is some of the best. Picnics enjoyed along one of the prolific footpaths or river trails are very special. Of course you'll enjoy kayaking, horse rides, etc.
